1 A nd Jehovah spake unto Moses, Depart, go up hence, thou and the people that thou hast brought up out of the land of Egypt, unto the land of which I sware unto Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, saying, Unto thy seed will I give it:

Jehová dijo a Moisés: —Anda, vete de aquí, tú y el pueblo que sacaste de la tierra de Egipto, a la tierra de la cual juré a Abraham, Isaac y Jacob diciendo: “A tu descendencia la daré.”

2 a nd I will send an angel before thee; and I will drive out the Canaanite, the Amorite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, the Hivite, and the Jebusite:

Yo enviaré delante de ti el ángel, y echaré fuera al cananeo, al amorreo, al heteo, al ferezeo, al heveo y al jebuseo.

3 u nto a land flowing with milk and honey: for I will not go up in the midst of thee, for thou art a stiffnecked people, lest I consume thee in the way.

Subirás a la tierra que fluye leche y miel, pero yo no subiré contigo, no sea que te destruya en el camino, pues eres un pueblo muy terco.

4 A nd when the people heard these evil tidings, they mourned: and no man did put on him his ornaments.

Al oír el pueblo esta mala noticia, guardó luto, y ninguno se puso sus galas,

5 A nd Jehovah said unto Moses, Say unto the children of Israel, Ye are a stiffnecked people; if I go up into the midst of thee for one moment, I shall consume thee: therefore now put off thy ornaments from thee, that I may know what to do unto thee.

pues Jehová había dicho a Moisés: «Di a los hijos de Israel: “Vosotros sois un pueblo muy terco. Si yo subiera un momento en medio de ti, te consumiría. Quítate, pues, ahora tus atavíos, para que yo sepa lo que te he de hacer.”»

6 A nd the children of Israel stripped themselves of their ornaments from mount Horeb onward.

Entonces los hijos de Israel se despojaron de sus galas desde el monte Horeb.

7 N ow Moses used to take the tent and to pitch it without the camp, afar off from the camp; and he called it, The tent of meeting. And it came to pass, that every one that sought Jehovah went out unto the tent of meeting, which was without the camp.

Moisés tomó el Tabernáculo y lo erigió lejos, fuera del campamento, y lo llamó «Tabernáculo de reunión». Y cualquiera que buscaba a Jehová, salía al Tabernáculo de reunión que estaba fuera del campamento.

8 A nd it came to pass, when Moses went out unto the Tent, that all the people rose up, and stood, every man at his tent door, and looked after Moses, until he was gone into the Tent.

Y sucedía que cuando salía Moisés al Tabernáculo, todo el pueblo se levantaba y se quedaba en pie a la entrada de su tienda, con la mirada puesta en Moisés, hasta que él entraba en el Tabernáculo.

9 A nd it came to pass, when Moses entered into the Tent, the pillar of cloud descended, and stood at the door of the Tent: and Jehovah spake with Moses.

Cuando Moisés entraba en el Tabernáculo, la columna de nube descendía y se ponía a la puerta del Tabernáculo, y Jehová hablaba con Moisés.

10 A nd all the people saw the pillar of cloud stand at the door of the Tent: and all the people rose up and worshipped, every man at his tent door.

Cuando el pueblo veía que la columna de nube se detenía a la entrada del Tabernáculo, se levantaba cada uno a la entrada de su tienda y adoraba.

11 A nd Jehovah spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. And he turned again into the camp: but his minister Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the Tent.

Jehová hablaba con Moisés cara a cara, como habla cualquiera con su compañero. Luego Moisés volvía al campamento, pero el joven Josué hijo de Nun, su servidor, nunca se apartaba de en medio del Tabernáculo.

12 A nd Moses said unto Jehovah, See, thou sayest unto me, Bring up this people: and thou hast not let me know whom thou wilt send with me. Yet thou hast said, I know thee by name, and thou hast also found favor in my sight.

Dijo Moisés a Jehová: —Mira, tú me dices: “Saca a este pueblo”, pero no me has indicado a quién enviarás conmigo. Sin embargo, tú dices: “Yo te he conocido por tu nombre y has hallado también gracia a mis ojos.”

13 N ow therefore, I pray thee, if I have found favor in thy sight, show me now thy ways, that I may know thee, to the end that I may find favor in thy sight: and consider that this nation is thy people.

Pues bien, si he hallado gracia a tus ojos, te ruego que me muestres ahora tu camino, para que te conozca y halle gracia a tus ojos; y mira que esta gente es tu pueblo.

14 A nd he said, My presence shall go with thee, and I will give thee rest.

Jehová le dijo: —Mi presencia te acompañará y te daré descanso.

15 A nd he said unto him, If thy presence go not with me, carry us not up hence.

Moisés respondió: —Si tu presencia no ha de acompañarnos, no nos saques de aquí.

16 F or wherein now shall it be known that I have found favor in thy sight, I and thy people? is it not in that thou goest with us, so that we are separated, I and thy people, from all the people that are upon the face of the earth?

Pues ¿en qué se conocerá aquí que he hallado gracia a tus ojos, yo y tu pueblo, sino en que tú andas con nosotros, y que yo y tu pueblo hemos sido apartados de entre todos los pueblos que están sobre la faz de la tierra?

17 A nd Jehovah said unto Moses, I will do this thing also that thou hast spoken; for thou hast found favor in my sight, and I know thee by name.

—También haré esto que has dicho, por cuanto has hallado gracia a mis ojos y te he conocido por tu nombre —respondió Jehová a Moisés.

18 A nd he said, Show me, I pray thee, thy glory.

Entonces dijo Moisés: —Te ruego que me muestres tu gloria.

19 A nd he said, I will make all my goodness pass before thee, and will proclaim the name of Jehovah before thee; and I will be gracious to whom I will be gracious, and will show mercy on whom I will show mercy.

Jehová le respondió: —Yo haré pasar toda mi bondad delante de tu rostro y pronunciaré el nombre de Jehová delante de ti, pues tengo misericordia del que quiero tener misericordia, y soy clemente con quien quiero ser clemente;

20 A nd he said, Thou canst not see my face; for man shall not see me and live.

pero no podrás ver mi rostro —añadió—, porque ningún hombre podrá verme y seguir viviendo.

21 a nd Jehovah said, Behold, there is a place by me, and thou shalt stand upon the rock:

Luego dijo Jehová: —Aquí hay un lugar junto a mí. Tú estarás sobre la peña,

22 a nd it shall come to pass, while my glory passeth by, that I will put thee in a cleft of the rock, and will cover thee with my hand until I have passed by:

y cuando pase mi gloria, yo te pondré en una hendidura de la peña, y te cubriré con mi mano hasta que haya pasado.

23 a nd I will take away my hand, and thou shalt see my back; but my face shall not be seen.

Después apartaré mi mano y verás mis espaldas, pero no se verá mi rostro.
