1 O h that thou wouldest rend the heavens, that thou wouldest come down, that the mountains might quake at thy presence,

¡Si rasgaras los cielos y descendieras y ante tu presencia se derritieran los montes,

2 a s when fire kindleth the brushwood, and the fire causeth the waters to boil; to make thy name known to thine adversaries, that the nations may tremble at thy presence!

como fuego abrasador de fundiciones, fuego que hace hervir las aguas! Así harías notorio tu nombre a tus enemigos y las naciones temblarían ante tu presencia.

3 W hen thou didst terrible things which we looked not for, thou camest down, the mountains quaked at thy presence.

Cuando, haciendo cosas terribles cuales nunca hubiéramos esperado, descendiste, se derritieron los montes delante de ti.

4 F or from of old men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen a God besides thee, who worketh for him that waiteth for him.

Nunca nadie oyó, nunca oídos percibieron ni ojo vio un Dios fuera de ti, que hiciera algo por aquel que en él espera.

5 T hou meetest him that rejoiceth and worketh righteousness, those that remember thee in thy ways: behold, thou wast wroth, and we sinned: in them have we been of long time; and shall we be saved?

Saliste al encuentro del que con alegría practicaba la justicia, de quienes se acordaban de ti según tus caminos. Pero tú te enojaste porque pecamos, porque en los pecados hemos perseverado largo tiempo. ¿Podremos acaso ser salvos?,

6 F or we are all become as one that is unclean, and all our righteousnesses are as a polluted garment: and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.

pues todos nosotros somos como cosa impura, todas nuestras justicias como trapo de inmundicia. Todos nosotros caímos como las hojas y nuestras maldades nos llevaron como el viento.

7 A nd there is none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee; for thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast consumed us by means of our iniquities.

¡Nadie hay que invoque tu nombre, que se despierte para apoyarse en ti! Por eso escondiste de nosotros tu rostro y nos dejaste marchitar en poder de nuestras maldades.

8 B ut now, O Jehovah, thou art our Father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.

Ahora bien, Jehová, tú eres nuestro padre; nosotros somos el barro y tú el alfarero. Así que obra de tus manos somos todos nosotros.

9 B e not wroth very sore, O Jehovah, neither remember iniquity for ever: behold, look, we beseech thee, we are all thy people.

No te enojes sobremanera, Jehová, ni tengas perpetua memoria de la iniquidad. ¡Míranos ahora, pues pueblo tuyo somos todos nosotros!

10 T hy holy cities are become a wilderness, Zion is become a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation.

Tus santas ciudades están desiertas, Sión es un desierto, Jerusalén una desolación.

11 O ur holy and our beautiful house, where our fathers praised thee, is burned with fire; and all our pleasant places are laid waste.

La casa de nuestro santuario y de nuestro renombre, en la cual te alabaron nuestros padres, fue consumida por el fuego. ¡Todas nuestras cosas preciosas han sido destruidas!

12 W ilt thou refrain thyself for these things, O Jehovah? wilt thou hold thy peace, and afflict us very sore?

¿Te quedarás quieto, Jehová, ante estas cosas? ¿Callarás y nos afligirás sobremanera?
