1 O h that thou wouldest rend the heavens, that thou wouldest come down, that the mountains might quake at thy presence,

¡Oh, si rasgases los cielos, y descendieras, y a tu presencia se derritiesen los montes,

2 a s when fire kindleth the brushwood, and the fire causeth the waters to boil; to make thy name known to thine adversaries, that the nations may tremble at thy presence!

como prende el fuego en la enramada, fuego que hace hervir las aguas, para que hicieras notorio tu nombre a tus enemigos, y las naciones temblasen a tu presencia!

3 W hen thou didst terrible things which we looked not for, thou camest down, the mountains quaked at thy presence.

Cuando, haciendo cosas terribles cuales nunca esperábamos, descendiste, fluyeron los montes delante de ti.

4 F or from of old men have not heard, nor perceived by the ear, neither hath the eye seen a God besides thee, who worketh for him that waiteth for him.

Ni nunca oyeron, ni oídos percibieron, ni ojo ha visto, oh Dios, fuera de ti, que obra así en favor del que en él espera.

5 T hou meetest him that rejoiceth and worketh righteousness, those that remember thee in thy ways: behold, thou wast wroth, and we sinned: in them have we been of long time; and shall we be saved?

Sales al encuentro del que con alegría hace justicia, de los que se acuerdan de ti en tus caminos; he aquí, tú te enojaste porque pecamos; en los pecados hemos perseverado por largo tiempo; y ¿seremos salvos?

6 F or we are all become as one that is unclean, and all our righteousnesses are as a polluted garment: and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, take us away.

Todos nosotros somos como suciedad, y todas nuestras justicias como trapos de inmundicia; y caímos todos nosotros como la hoja, y nuestras maldades, como el viento, nos llevaron.

7 A nd there is none that calleth upon thy name, that stirreth up himself to take hold of thee; for thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast consumed us by means of our iniquities.

Nadie hay que invoque tu nombre, que se despierte para apoyarse en ti; pues escondiste de nosotros tu rostro, y nos dejaste marchitar en poder de nuestras maldades.

8 B ut now, O Jehovah, thou art our Father; we are the clay, and thou our potter; and we all are the work of thy hand.

Ahora, pues, Jehová, tú eres nuestro padre; nosotros barro, y tú el que nos formaste; así que obra de tus manos somos todos nosotros.

9 B e not wroth very sore, O Jehovah, neither remember iniquity for ever: behold, look, we beseech thee, we are all thy people.

No te enojes sobremanera, Jehová, ni tengas perpetua memoria de la iniquidad; he aquí, mira ahora, pueblo tuyo somos todos nosotros.

10 T hy holy cities are become a wilderness, Zion is become a wilderness, Jerusalem a desolation.

Tus santas ciudades están desiertas, Sión es un desierto, Jerusalén una desolación.

11 O ur holy and our beautiful house, where our fathers praised thee, is burned with fire; and all our pleasant places are laid waste.

Nuestra casa santa y hermosa, en la cual te alabaron nuestros padres, fue consumida al fuego; y todas nuestras cosas más estimadas han sido destruidas.

12 W ilt thou refrain thyself for these things, O Jehovah? wilt thou hold thy peace, and afflict us very sore?

¿Te estarás quieto, oh Jehová, ante estas cosas? ¿Callarás, y nos afligirás sobremanera?
