1 T he burden which Habakkuk the prophet did see.

Oráculo que tuvo en visión el profeta Habacuc.

2 O Jehovah, how long shall I cry, and thou wilt not hear? I cry out unto thee of violence, and thou wilt not save.

¿Hasta cuándo, oh Jehová, clamaré, y no oirás; y daré voces a ti a causa de la violencia, y no salvarás?

3 W hy dost thou show me iniquity, and look upon perverseness? for destruction and violence are before me; and there is strife, and contention riseth up.

¿Por qué me haces ver iniquidad, y toleras la vista de la aflicción? Destrucción y violencia hay delante de mí, y se levantan pleitos y contiendas.

4 T herefore the law is slacked, and justice doth never go forth; for the wicked doth compass about the righteous; therefore justice goeth forth perverted.

Por lo cual la ley es debilitada, y el juicio no sale según la verdad; por cuanto el impío asedia al justo, por eso sale torcida la justicia. Los caldeos castigarán a Judá

5 B ehold ye among the nations, and look, and wonder marvellously; for I am working a work in your days, which ye will not believe though it be told you.

Mirad entre las naciones, y ved, y asombraos; porque haré una obra en vuestros días, que aun cuando se os cuente, no la creeréis.

6 F or, lo, I raise up the Chaldeans, that bitter and hasty nation, that march through the breadth of the earth, to possess dwelling-places that are not theirs.

Porque he aquí, yo levanto a los caldeos, nación feroz y fogosa, que camina por la anchura de la tierra para apoderarse de las moradas ajenas.

7 T hey are terrible and dreadful; their judgment and their dignity proceed from themselves.

Formidable es y terrible; de ella misma procede su derecho y su exaltación.

8 T heir horses also are swifter than leopards, and are more fierce than the evening wolves; and their horsemen press proudly on: yea, their horsemen come from far; they fly as an eagle that hasteth to devour.

Sus caballos serán más ligeros que leopardos, y más feroces que lobos nocturnos, y sus jinetes se desplegarán rápidamente; vendrán de lejos sus jinetes, y volarán como águilas que se apresuran a devorar.

9 T hey come all of them for violence; the set of their faces is forwards; and they gather captives as the sand.

Todos ellos vendrán para arrojarse a la presa; el terror va delante de ellos, y recogerán cautivos como arena.

10 Y ea, he scoffeth at kings, and princes are a derision unto him; he derideth every stronghold; for he heapeth up dust, and taketh it.

Escarnecen a los reyes, y de los príncipes hacen burla; se ríen de toda fortaleza, pues levantan terraplenes y la toman.

11 T hen shall he sweep by as a wind, and shall pass over, and be guilty, even he whose might is his god.

Luego pasan barriéndolo todo como el huracán, y se cargan de culpa, haciendo de su fuerza su dios. Protesta de Habacuc

12 A rt not thou from everlasting, O Jehovah my God, my Holy One? we shall not die. O Jehovah, thou hast ordained him for judgment; and thou, O Rock, hast established him for correction.

¿No eres tú desde el principio, oh Jehová, mi Dios, mi Santo? No moriremos. Oh Jehová, lo pusiste para ejecutar tus juicios; y tú, oh Roca, lo estableciste para castigar.

13 T hou that art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and that canst not look on perverseness, wherefore lookest thou upon them that deal treacherously, and holdest thy peace when the wicked swalloweth up the man that is more righteous than he;

Muy limpio eres de ojos para ver el mal, y no puedes contemplar inactivo el agravio; ¿por qué ves a los menospreciadores, y callas cuando destruye el impío al más justo que él,

14 a nd makest men as the fishes of the sea, as the creeping things, that have no ruler over them?

y haces que sean los hombres como los peces del mar, como reptiles que no tienen quien los gobierne?

15 H e taketh up all of them with the angle, he catcheth them in his net, and gathereth them in his drag: therefore he rejoiceth and is glad.

Sacará a todos con anzuelo, los recogerá con su red, y los juntará en sus mallas; por lo cual se alegrará y se regocijará.

16 T herefore he sacrificeth unto his net, and burneth incense unto his drag; because by them his portion is fat, and his food plenteous.

Por esto hará sacrificios a su red, y ofrecerá sahumerios a sus mallas; porque con ellas acrecienta su porción, y hace suculenta su comida.

17 S hall he therefore empty his net, and spare not to slay the nations continually?

¿Continuará, por tanto, vaciando su red, y no tendrá piedad de aniquilar naciones continuamente?
