1 A nd it came to pass after this, that David inquired of Jehovah, saying, Shall I go up into any of the cities of Judah? And Jehovah said unto him, Go up. And David said, Whither shall I go up? And he said, Unto Hebron.

Después de esto aconteció que David consultó a Jehová, diciendo: ¿Subiré a alguna de las ciudades de Judá? Y Jehová le respondió: Sube. David volvió a decir: ¿Adónde subiré? Y él le dijo: A Hebrón.

2 S o David went up thither, and his two wives also, Ahinoam the Jezreelitess, and Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite.

David subió allá, y con él sus dos mujeres, Ahinoam jizreelita y Abigail, la que fue mujer de Nabal el de Carmel.

3 A nd his men that were with him did David bring up, every man with his household: and they dwelt in the cities of Hebron.

Llevó también David consigo a los hombres que con él habían estado, cada uno con su familia; los cuales moraron en las ciudades de Hebrón.

4 A nd the men of Judah came, and there they anointed David king over the house of Judah. And they told David, saying, The men of Jabesh-gilead were they that buried Saul.

Y vinieron los varones de Judá y ungieron allí a David por rey sobre la casa de Judá. Y dieron aviso a David, diciendo: Los de Jabés de Galaad son los que sepultaron a Saúl.

5 A nd David sent messengers unto the men of Jabesh-gilead, and said unto them, Blessed be ye of Jehovah, that ye have showed this kindness unto your lord, even unto Saul, and have buried him.

Entonces envió David mensajeros a los de Jabés de Galaad, diciéndoles: Benditos seáis vosotros de Jehová, que habéis hecho esta misericordia con vuestro señor, con Saúl, dándole sepultura.

6 A nd now Jehovah show lovingkindness and truth unto you: and I also will requite you this kindness, because ye have done this thing.

Ahora, pues, Jehová haga con vosotros misericordia y verdad; y yo también os haré bien por esto que habéis hecho.

7 N ow therefore let your hands be strong, and be ye valiant; for Saul your lord is dead, and also the house of Judah have anointed me king over them.

Esfuércense, pues, ahora vuestras manos, y sed valientes; pues muerto Saúl vuestro señor, los de la casa de Judá me han ungido por rey sobre ellos. Guerra entre David y la casa de Saúl

8 N ow Abner the son of Ner, captain of Saul's host, had taken Ish-bosheth the son of Saul, and brought him over to Mahanaim;

Pero Abner hijo de Ner, general del ejército de Saúl, tomó a Is-boset hijo de Saúl, y lo llevó a Mahanáyim,

9 a nd he made him king over Gilead, and over the Ashurites, and over Jezreel, and over Ephraim, and over Benjamin, and over all Israel.

y lo hizo rey sobre Galaad, sobre Asurí, sobre Jizreel, sobre Efraín, sobre Benjamín y sobre todo Israel.

10 I sh-bosheth, Saul's son, was forty years old when he began to reign over Israel, and he reigned two years. But the house of Judah followed David.

De cuarenta años era Is-boset hijo de Saúl cuando comenzó a reinar sobre Israel, y reinó dos años. Solamente los de la casa de Judá siguieron a David.

11 A nd the time that David was king in Hebron over the house of Judah was seven years and six months.

Y fue el número de los días que David reinó en Hebrón sobre la casa de Judá, siete años y seis meses. Guerra entre Judá e Israel. Batalla de Gabaón

12 A nd Abner the son of Ner, and the servants of Ish-bosheth the son of Saul, went out from Mahanaim to Gibeon.

Abner hijo de Ner salió de Mahanáyim a Gabaón con los siervos de Is-boset hijo de Saúl,

13 A nd Joab the son of Zeruiah, and the servants of David, went out, and met them by the pool of Gibeon; and they sat down, the one on the one side of the pool, and the other on the other side of the pool.

y Joab hijo de Sarvia y los siervos de David salieron y los encontraron junto al estanque de Gabaón; y se pararon los unos a un lado del estanque, y los otros al otro lado.

14 A nd Abner said to Joab, Let the young men, I pray thee, arise and play before us. And Joab said, Let them arise.

Y dijo Abner a Joab: Levántense ahora los jóvenes, y maniobren delante de nosotros. Y Joab respondió: Levántense.

15 T hen they arose and went over by number: twelve for Benjamin, and for Ish-bosheth the son of Saul, and twelve of the servants of David.

Entonces se levantaron, y pasaron en número igual, doce de Benjamín por parte de Is-boset hijo de Saúl, y doce de los siervos de David.

16 A nd they caught every one his fellow by the head, and thrust his sword in his fellow's side; so they fell down together: wherefore that place was called Helkath-hazzurim, which is in Gibeon.

Y cada uno echó mano de la cabeza de su adversario, y metió su espada en el costado de su adversario, y cayeron a una; por lo que fue llamado aquel lugar, Helcat-hazurim, el cual está en Gabaón.

17 A nd the battle was very sore that day: and Abner was beaten, and the men of Israel, before the servants of David.

La batalla fue muy reñida aquel día, y Abner y los hombres de Israel fueron vencidos por los siervos de David.

18 A nd the three sons of Zeruiah were there, Joab, and Abishai, and Asahel: and Asahel was as light of foot as a wild roe.

Estaban allí los tres hijos de Sarvia: Joab, Abisay y Asael. Este Asael era ligero de pies como una gacela del campo.

19 A nd Asahel pursued after Abner; and in going he turned not to the right hand nor to the left from following Abner.

Y siguió Asael tras de Abner, sin apartarse ni a derecha ni a izquierda.

20 T hen Abner looked behind him, and said, Is it thou, Asahel? And he answered, It is I.

Y miró atrás Abner, y dijo: ¿No eres tú Asael? Y él respondió: Sí.

21 A nd Abner said to him, Turn thee aside to thy right hand or to thy left, and lay thee hold on one of the young men, and take thee his armor. But Asahel would not turn aside from following him.

Entonces Abner le dijo: Apártate a la derecha o a la izquierda, y echa mano de alguno de los hombres, y toma para ti sus despojos. Pero Asael no quiso apartarse de en pos de él.

22 A nd Abner said again to Asahel, Turn thee aside from following me: wherefore should I smite thee to the ground? how then should I hold up my face to Joab thy brother?

Y Abner volvió a decir a Asael: Apártate de en pos de mí; ¿por qué he de herirte hasta derribarte? ¿Cómo levantaría yo entonces mi rostro delante de Joab tu hermano?

23 H owbeit he refused to turn aside: wherefore Abner with the hinder end of the spear smote him in the body, so that the spear came out behind him; and he fell down there, and died in the same place: and it came to pass, that as many as came to the place where Asahel fell down and died stood still.

Y no queriendo él irse, lo hirió Abner con el regatón de la lanza por la quinta costilla, y le salió la lanza por la espalda, y cayó allí, y murió en aquel mismo sitio. Y todos los que venían por aquel lugar donde Asael había caído y estaba muerto, se detenían.

24 B ut Joab and Abishai pursued after Abner: and the sun went down when they were come to the hill of Ammah, that lieth before Giah by the way of the wilderness of Gibeon.

Mas Joab y Abisay siguieron a Abner; y se puso el sol cuando llegaron al collado de Ammá, que está delante de Gía, junto al camino del desierto de Gabaón.

25 A nd the children of Benjamin gathered themselves together after Abner, and became one band, and stood on the top of a hill.

Y se juntaron los hijos de Benjamín en pos de Abner, formando un solo ejército; e hicieron alto en la cumbre del collado.

26 T hen Abner called to Joab, and said, Shall the sword devour for ever? knowest thou not that it will be bitterness in the latter end? how long shall it be then, ere thou bid the people return from following their brethren?

Y Abner dio voces a Joab, diciendo: ¿Consumirá la espada perpetuamente? ¿No sabes tú que el final será amargura? ¿Hasta cuándo no dirás al pueblo que se vuelva de perseguir a sus hermanos?

27 A nd Joab said, As God liveth, if thou hadst not spoken, surely then in the morning the people had gone away, nor followed every one his brother.

Y Joab respondió: Vive Dios, que si no hubieses hablado, el pueblo hubiera dejado de seguir a sus hermanos desde esta mañana.

28 S o Joab blew the trumpet; and all the people stood still, and pursued after Israel no more, neither fought they any more.

Entonces Joab tocó el cuerno, y todo el pueblo se detuvo, y no persiguió más a los de Israel, ni peleó más.

29 A nd Abner and his men went all that night through the Arabah; and they passed over the Jordan, and went through all Bithron, and came to Mahanaim.

Y Abner y los suyos caminaron por el Arabá toda aquella noche, y pasando el Jordán cruzaron por todo Bitrón y llegaron a Mahanáyim.

30 A nd Joab returned from following Abner: and when he had gathered all the people together, there lacked of David's servants nineteen men and Asahel.

Joab también volvió de perseguir a Abner, y juntando a todo el pueblo, faltaron de los siervos de David diecinueve hombres y Asael.

31 B ut the servants of David had smitten of Benjamin, and of Abner's men, so that three hundred and threescore men died.

Mas los siervos de David hirieron de los de Benjamín y de los de Abner, a trescientos sesenta hombres, los cuales murieron.

32 A nd they took up Asahel, and buried him in the sepulchre of his father, which was in Beth-lehem. And Joab and his men went all night, and the day brake upon them at Hebron.

Tomaron luego a Asael, y lo sepultaron en el sepulcro de su padre en Belén. Y caminaron toda aquella noche Joab y sus hombres, y les amaneció en Hebrón.
