1 N ow before the feast of the passover, Jesus knowing that his hour was come that he should depart out of this world unto his Father, having loved his own that were in the world, he loved them unto the end.

Antes de la fiesta de la Pascua, sabiendo Jesús que su hora había llegado para que pasara de este mundo al Padre, como había amado a los suyos que estaban en el mundo, los amó hasta el fin.

2 A nd during supper, the devil having already put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him,

Y cuando cenaban, como el diablo ya había puesto en el corazón de Judas Iscariote hijo de Simón que lo entregara,

3 J esus, knowing that the Father had given all the things into his hands, and that he came forth from God, and goeth unto God,

sabiendo Jesús que el Padre le había dado todas las cosas en las manos, y que había salido de Dios y a Dios iba,

4 r iseth from supper, and layeth aside his garments; and he took a towel, and girded himself.

se levantó de la cena, se quitó su manto y, tomando una toalla, se la ciñó.

5 T hen he poureth water into the basin, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith he was girded.

Luego puso agua en una vasija y comenzó a lavar los pies de los discípulos y a secarlos con la toalla con que estaba ceñido.

6 S o he cometh to Simon Peter. He saith unto him, Lord, dost thou wash my feet?

Cuando llegó a Simón Pedro, éste le dijo: —Señor, ¿tú me lavarás los pies?

7 J esus answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt understand hereafter.

Respondió Jesús y le dijo: —Lo que yo hago, tú no lo comprendes ahora, pero lo entenderás después.

8 P eter saith unto him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. Jesus answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.

Pedro le dijo: —No me lavarás los pies jamás. Jesús le respondió: —Si no te lavo, no tendrás parte conmigo.

9 S imon Peter saith unto him, Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.

Le dijo Simón Pedro: —Señor, no sólo mis pies, sino también las manos y la cabeza.

10 J esus saith to him, He that is bathed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.

Jesús le dijo: —El que está lavado no necesita sino lavarse los pies, pues está todo limpio; y vosotros limpios estáis, aunque no todos.

11 F or he knew him that should betray him; therefore said he, Ye are not all clean.

Él sabía quién lo iba a entregar; por eso dijo: «No estáis limpios todos.»

12 S o when he had washed their feet, and taken his garments, and sat down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you?

Así que, después que les lavó los pies, tomó su manto, volvió a la mesa y les dijo: —¿Sabéis lo que os he hecho?

13 Y e call me, Teacher, and, Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.

Vosotros me llamáis Maestro y Señor, y decís bien, porque lo soy.

14 I f I then, the Lord and the Teacher, have washed your feet, ye also ought to wash one another's feet.

Pues si yo, el Señor y el Maestro, he lavado vuestros pies, vosotros también debéis lavaros los pies los unos a los otros,

15 F or I have given you an example, that ye also should do as I have done to you.

porque ejemplo os he dado para que, como yo os he hecho, vosotros también hagáis.

16 V erily, verily, I say unto you, a servant is not greater than his lord; neither one that is sent greater than he that sent him.

De cierto, de cierto os digo: El siervo no es mayor que su señor, ni el enviado es mayor que el que lo envió.

17 I f ye know these things, blessed are ye if ye do them.

Si sabéis estas cosas, bienaventurados sois si las hacéis.

18 I speak not of you all: I know whom I have chosen: but that the scripture may be fulfilled: He that eateth my bread lifted up his heel against me.

»No hablo de todos vosotros; yo sé a quienes he elegido. Pero debe cumplirse la Escritura: “El que come pan conmigo alzó el pie contra mí.”

19 F rom henceforth I tell you before it come to pass, that, when it is come to pass, ye may believe that I am he.

Desde ahora os lo digo antes que suceda, para que cuando suceda creáis que yo soy.

20 V erily, verily, I say unto you, he that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me; and he that receiveth me receiveth him that sent me.

De cierto, de cierto os digo: El que reciba al que yo envíe, me recibe a mí; y el que me recibe a mí, recibe al que me envió. Jesús anuncia la traición de Judas

21 W hen Jesus had thus said, he was troubled in the spirit, and testified, and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me.

Habiendo dicho Jesús esto, se conmovió en espíritu y declaró: —De cierto, de cierto os digo que uno de vosotros me va a entregar.

22 T he disciples looked one on another, doubting of whom he spake.

Entonces los discípulos se miraron unos a otros, dudando de quién hablaba.

23 T here was at the table reclining in Jesus' bosom one of his disciples, whom Jesus loved.

Y uno de sus discípulos, al cual Jesús amaba, estaba recostado al lado de Jesús.

24 S imon Peter therefore beckoneth to him, and saith unto him, Tell us who it is of whom he speaketh.

A éste, pues, hizo señas Simón Pedro para que preguntara quién era aquel de quien hablaba.

25 H e leaning back, as he was, on Jesus' breast saith unto him, Lord, who is it?

Él entonces, recostándose sobre el pecho de Jesús, le preguntó: —Señor, ¿quién es?

26 J esus therefore answereth, He it is, for whom I shall dip the sop, and give it him. So when he had dipped the sop, he taketh and giveth it to Judas, the son of Simon Iscariot.

Respondió Jesús: —A quien yo le dé el pan mojado, ése es. Y, mojando el pan, lo dio a Judas Iscariote hijo de Simón.

27 A nd after the sop, then entered Satan into him. Jesus therefore saith unto him, What thou doest, do quickly.

Y después del bocado, Satanás entró en él. Entonces Jesús le dijo: —Lo que vas a hacer, hazlo pronto.

28 N ow no man at the table knew for what intent he spake this unto him.

Pero ninguno de los que estaban a la mesa entendió por qué le dijo esto.

29 F or some thought, because Judas had the bag, that Jesus said unto him, Buy what things we have need of for the feast; or, that he should give something to the poor.

Algunos pensaban, puesto que Judas tenía la bolsa, que Jesús le decía: «Compra lo que necesitamos para la fiesta»; o que diera algo a los pobres.

30 H e then having received the sop went out straightway: and it was night.

Cuando él tomó el bocado, salió en seguida. Era ya de noche. El nuevo mandamiento

31 W hen therefore he was gone out, Jesus saith, Now is the Son of man glorified, and God is glorified in him;

Entonces, cuando salió, dijo Jesús: —Ahora es glorificado el Hijo del hombre, y Dios es glorificado en él.

32 a nd God shall glorify him in himself, and straightway shall he glorify him.

Si Dios es glorificado en él, Dios también lo glorificará en sí mismo, y en seguida lo glorificará.

33 L ittle children, yet a little while I am with you. Ye shall seek me: and as I said unto the Jews, Whither I go, ye cannot come; so now I say unto you.

Hijitos, aún estaré con vosotros un poco. Me buscaréis, pero, como dije a los judíos, así os digo ahora a vosotros: A donde yo voy, vosotros no podéis ir.

34 A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; even as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.

Un mandamiento nuevo os doy: Que os améis unos a otros; como yo os he amado, que también os améis unos a otros.

35 B y this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

En esto conocerán todos que sois mis discípulos, si tenéis amor los unos por los otros. Jesús anuncia la negación de Pedro

36 S imon Peter saith unto him, Lord, whither goest thou? Jesus answered, Whither I go, thou canst not follow now; but thou shalt follow afterwards.

Le dijo Simón Pedro: —Señor, ¿a dónde vas? Jesús le respondió: —A donde voy, no me puedes seguir ahora, pero me seguirás después.

37 P eter saith unto him, Lord, why cannot I follow thee even now? I will lay down my life for thee.

Le dijo Pedro: —Señor, ¿por qué no te puedo seguir ahora? ¡Mi vida daré por ti!

38 J esus answereth, Wilt thou lay down thy life for me? Verily, verily, I say unto thee, The cock shall not crow, till thou hast denied me thrice.

Jesús le respondió: —¿Tu vida darás por mí? De cierto, de cierto te digo: No cantará el gallo sin que me hayas negado tres veces.
