1 A nd Joshua the son of Nun sent out of Shittim two men as spies secretly, saying, Go, view the land, and Jericho. And they went and came into the house of a harlot whose name was Rahab, and lay there.

Josué hijo de Nun envió desde Sitim dos espías secretamente, y les dijo: «Id a explorar la tierra y a Jericó.» Ellos fueron, entraron en casa de una ramera que se llamaba Rahab y se hospedaron allí.

2 A nd it was told the king of Jericho, saying, Behold, there came men in hither to-night of the children of Israel to search out the land.

Entonces le fue dado este aviso al rey de Jericó: —Unos hombres de los hijos de Israel han venido aquí esta noche para espiar la tierra.

3 A nd the king of Jericho sent unto Rahab, saying, Bring forth the men that are come to thee, that are entered into thy house; for they are come to search out all the land.

El rey de Jericó mandó a decir a Rahab: —Saca a los hombres que han venido a verte y han entrado a tu casa, porque han venido para espiar toda la tierra.

4 A nd the woman took the two men, and hid them; and she said, Yea, the men came unto me, but I knew not whence they were:

Pero la mujer había tomado a los dos hombres y los había escondido. Luego dijo: —Es verdad que unos hombres vinieron a mi casa, pero no supe de dónde eran.

5 a nd it came to pass about the time of the shutting of the gate, when it was dark, that the men went out; whither the men went I know not: pursue after them quickly; for ye will overtake them.

Cuando se iba a cerrar la puerta, siendo ya oscuro, esos hombres salieron y no sé a dónde han ido. Seguidlos aprisa y los alcanzaréis.

6 B ut she had brought them up to the roof, and hid them with the stalks of flax, which she had laid in order upon the roof.

Pero ella los había hecho subir al terrado, y los había escondido entre los manojos de lino que tenía puestos en el terrado.

7 A nd the men pursued after them the way to the Jordan unto the fords: and as soon as they that pursued after them were gone out, they shut the gate.

Los hombres salieron tras ellos por el camino del Jordán, hasta los vados, y la puerta fue cerrada después que salieron los perseguidores.

8 A nd before they were laid down, she came up unto them upon the roof;

Antes que ellos se durmieran, ella subió al terrado y les dijo:

9 a nd she said unto the men, I know that Jehovah hath given you the land, and that the fear of you is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land melt away before you.

—Sé que Jehová os ha dado esta tierra, porque el temor de vosotros ha caído sobre nosotros, y todos los habitantes del país ya han temblado por vuestra causa.

10 F or we have heard how Jehovah dried up the water of the Red Sea before you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were beyond the Jordan, unto Sihon and to Og, whom ye utterly destroyed.

Porque hemos oído que Jehová hizo secar las aguas del Mar Rojo delante de vosotros cuando salisteis de Egipto, y también lo que habéis hecho con los dos reyes de los amorreos que estaban al otro lado del Jordán, con Sehón y Og, a los cuales habéis destruido.

11 A nd as soon as we had heard it, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more spirit in any man, because of you: for Jehovah your God, he is God in heaven above, and on earth beneath.

Al oír esto ha desfallecido nuestro corazón, y no ha quedado hombre alguno con ánimo para resistiros, porque Jehová, vuestro Dios, es Dios arriba en los cielos y abajo en la tierra.

12 N ow therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by Jehovah, since I have dealt kindly with you, that ye also will deal kindly with my father's house, and give me a true token;

Os ruego pues, ahora, que me juréis por Jehová, que como he tenido misericordia de vosotros, así la tendréis vosotros de la casa de mi padre, de lo cual me daréis una señal segura;

13 a nd that ye will save alive my father, and my mother, and my brethren, and my sisters, and all that they have, and will deliver our lives from death.

que salvaréis la vida a mi padre y a mi madre, a mis hermanos y hermanas, y a todo cuanto les pertenece, y que libraréis nuestras vidas de la muerte.

14 A nd the men said unto her, Our life for yours, if ye utter not this our business; and it shall be, when Jehovah giveth us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with thee.

Ellos le respondieron: —Nuestra vida responderá por la vuestra, si no denuncias este asunto nuestro; y cuando Jehová nos haya dado la tierra, te trataremos con bondad y lealtad.

15 T hen she let them down by a cord through the window: for her house was upon the side of the wall, and she dwelt upon the wall.

Entonces ella los hizo descender con una cuerda por la ventana, pues su casa estaba en el muro de la ciudad y ella vivía en el muro.

16 A nd she said unto them, Get you to the mountain, lest the pursuers light upon you; and hide yourselves there three days, until the pursuers be returned: and afterward may ye go your way.

Les dijo: —Marchaos al monte, para que los que fueron tras vosotros no os encuentren. Estad escondidos allí tres días, hasta que vuelvan los que os siguen; después os iréis por vuestro camino.

17 A nd the men said unto her, We will be guiltless of this thine oath which thou hast made us to swear.

Ellos le dijeron: —Nosotros quedaremos libres de este juramento que te hemos hecho.

18 B ehold, when we come into the land, thou shalt bind this line of scarlet thread in the window which thou didst let us down by: and thou shalt gather unto thee into the house thy father, and thy mother, and thy brethren, and all thy father's household.

Cuando nosotros entremos en la tierra, tú atarás este cordón de grana a la ventana por la cual nos descolgaste, y reunirás en tu casa a tu padre y a tu madre, a tus hermanos y a toda la familia de tu padre.

19 A nd it shall be, that whosoever shall go out of the doors of thy house into the street, his blood shall be upon his head, and we shall be guiltless: and whosoever shall be with thee in the house, his blood shall be on our head, if any hand be upon him.

Cualquiera que salga fuera de las puertas de tu casa, su sangre caerá sobre su cabeza y nosotros seremos sin culpa. Pero cualquiera que esté en la casa contigo, su sangre caerá sobre nuestra cabeza, si alguna mano lo toca.

20 B ut if thou utter this our business, then we shall be guiltless of thine oath which thou hast made us to swear.

Y si tú denuncias este nuestro asunto, nosotros quedaremos libres de este juramento que te hemos hecho.

21 A nd she said, According unto your words, so be it. And she sent them away, and they departed: and she bound the scarlet line in the window.

—Sea así como habéis dicho —respondió ella. Luego los despidió; ellos se fueron y ella ató el cordón de grana a la ventana.

22 A nd they went, and came unto the mountain, and abode there three days, until the pursuers were returned: and the pursuers sought them throughout all the way, but found them not.

Marcharon ellos, llegaron al monte y se quedaron allí tres días, hasta que volvieron los que los perseguían, quienes los habían buscado por todo el camino, sin hallarlos.

23 T hen the two men returned, and descended from the mountain, and passed over, and came to Joshua the son of Nun; and they told him all that had befallen them.

Entonces volvieron los dos hombres a descender del monte, pasaron, y cuando llegaron adonde estaba Josué hijo de Nun, le contaron todas las cosas que les habían acontecido.

24 A nd they said unto Joshua, Truly Jehovah hath delivered into our hands all the land; and moreover all the inhabitants of the land do melt away before us.

Dijeron a Josué: «Jehová ha entregado toda la tierra en nuestras manos; todos los habitantes del país tiemblan ante nosotros.»
