1 A nd certain men came down from Judaea and taught the brethren, saying, Except ye be circumcised after the custom of Moses, ye cannot be saved.

Entonces algunos que venían de Judea enseñaban a los hermanos: «Si no os circuncidáis conforme al rito de Moisés no podéis ser salvos.»

2 A nd when Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and questioning with them, the brethren appointed that Paul and Barnabas, and certain other of them, should go up to Jerusalem unto the apostles and elders about this question.

Pablo y Bernabé tuvieron una discusión y contienda no pequeña con ellos. Por eso se dispuso que Pablo, Bernabé y algunos otros de ellos subieran a Jerusalén, a los apóstoles y a los ancianos, para tratar esta cuestión.

3 T hey therefore, being brought on their way by the church, passed through both Phoenicia and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles: and they caused great joy unto all the brethren.

Ellos, pues, habiendo sido encaminados por la iglesia, pasaron por Fenicia y Samaria contando la conversión de los gentiles; y causaban gran gozo a todos los hermanos.

4 A nd when they were come to Jerusalem, they were received of the church and the apostles and the elders, and they rehearsed all things that God had done with them.

Al llegar a Jerusalén fueron recibidos por la iglesia, por los apóstoles y los ancianos, y refirieron todas las cosas que Dios había hecho con ellos.

5 B ut there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees who believed, saying, It is needful to circumcise them, and to charge them to keep the law of Moses.

Pero algunos de la secta de los fariseos, que habían creído, se levantaron diciendo: —Es necesario circuncidarlos y mandarles que guarden la Ley de Moisés.

6 A nd the apostles and the elders were gathered together to consider of this matter.

Entonces se reunieron los apóstoles y los ancianos para conocer de este asunto.

7 A nd when there had been much questioning, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Brethren, ye know that a good while ago God made choice among you, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.

Después de mucha discusión, Pedro se levantó y les dijo: —Hermanos, vosotros sabéis cómo ya hace algún tiempo Dios escogió que los gentiles oyeran por mi boca la palabra del evangelio y creyeran.

8 A nd God, who knoweth the heart, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Spirit, even as he did unto us;

Y Dios, que conoce los corazones, les dio testimonio, dándoles el Espíritu Santo lo mismo que a nosotros;

9 a nd he made no distinction between us and them, cleansing their hearts by faith.

y ninguna diferencia hizo entre nosotros y ellos, purificando por la fe sus corazones.

10 N ow therefore why make ye trial of God, that ye should put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?

Ahora pues, ¿por qué tentáis a Dios, poniendo sobre la cerviz de los discípulos un yugo que ni nuestros padres ni nosotros hemos podido llevar?

11 B ut we believe that we shall be saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, in like manner as they.

Antes creemos que por la gracia del Señor Jesús seremos salvos, de igual modo que ellos.

12 A nd all the multitude kept silence; and they hearkened unto Barnabas and Paul rehearsing what signs and wonders God had wrought among the Gentiles through them.

Entonces toda la multitud calló, y oyeron a Bernabé y a Pablo, que contaban cuán grandes señales y maravillas había hecho Dios por medio de ellos entre los gentiles.

13 A nd after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Brethren, hearken unto me:

Cuando ellos callaron, Jacobo respondió diciendo: —Hermanos, oídme.

14 S ymeon hath rehearsed how first God visited the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name.

Simón ha contado cómo Dios visitó por primera vez a los gentiles para tomar de ellos pueblo para su nombre.

15 A nd to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written,

Y con esto concuerdan las palabras de los profetas, como está escrito:

16 A fter these things I will return, And I will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen; And I will build again the ruins thereof, And I will set it up:

»“Después de esto volveré y reedificaré el tabernáculo de David, que está caído; y repararé sus ruinas, y lo volveré a levantar,

17 T hat the residue of men may seek after the Lord, And all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called,

para que el resto de los hombres busque al Señor, y todos los gentiles, sobre los cuales es invocado mi nombre,

18 S aith the Lord, who maketh these things known from of old.

dice el Señor, que hace conocer todo esto desde tiempos antiguos.”

19 W herefore my judgment is, that we trouble not them that from among the Gentiles turn to God;

»Por lo cual yo juzgo que no se inquiete a los gentiles que se convierten a Dios,

20 b ut that we write unto them, that they abstain from the pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from what is strangled, and from blood.

sino que se les escriba que se aparten de las contaminaciones de los ídolos, de fornicación, de ahogado y de sangre,

21 F or Moses from generations of old hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath.

porque Moisés desde tiempos antiguos tiene en cada ciudad quien lo predique en las sinagogas, donde es leído cada sábado.

22 T hen it seemed good to the apostles and the elders, with the whole church, to choose men out of their company, and send them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas; namely, Judas called Barsabbas, and Silas, chief men among the brethren:

Entonces pareció bien a los apóstoles y a los ancianos, con toda la iglesia, elegir a algunos varones y enviarlos a Antioquía con Pablo y Bernabé: a Judas, que tenía por sobrenombre Barsabás, a Silas, hombres principales entre los hermanos,

23 a nd they wrote thus by them, The apostles and the elders, brethren, unto the brethren who are of the Gentiles in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia, greeting:

y escribir por conducto de ellos: «Los apóstoles, los ancianos y los hermanos, a los hermanos de entre los gentiles que están en Antioquía, Siria y Cilicia: Salud.

24 F orasmuch as we have heard that certain who went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls; to whom we gave no commandment;

Por cuanto hemos oído que algunos que han salido de nosotros, a los cuales no dimos orden, os han inquietado con palabras, perturbando vuestras almas, mandando circuncidaros y guardar la Ley,

25 i t seemed good unto us, having come to one accord, to choose out men and send them unto you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul,

nos ha parecido bien, habiendo llegado a un acuerdo, elegir varones y enviarlos a vosotros con nuestros amados Bernabé y Pablo,

26 m en that have hazarded their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

hombres que han expuesto su vida por el nombre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo.

27 W e have sent therefore Judas and Silas, who themselves also shall tell you the same things by word of mouth.

Así que enviamos a Judas y a Silas, los cuales también de palabra os harán saber lo mismo,

28 F or it seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things:

pues ha parecido bien al Espíritu Santo y a nosotros no imponeros ninguna carga más que estas cosas necesarias:

29 t hat ye abstain from things sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication; from which if ye keep yourselves, it shall be well with you. Fare ye well.

que os abstengáis de lo sacrificado a ídolos, de sangre, de ahogado y de fornicación; si os guardáis de estas cosas, bien haréis. Pasadlo bien.»

30 S o they, when they were dismissed, came down to Antioch; and having gathered the multitude together, they delivered the epistle.

Así pues, los que fueron enviados descendieron a Antioquía y, reuniendo a la congregación, entregaron la carta.

31 A nd when they had read it, they rejoiced for the consolation.

Habiéndola leído, se regocijaron por la consolación.

32 A nd Judas and Silas, being themselves also prophets, exhorted the brethren with many words, and confirmed them.

Judas y Silas, que también eran profetas, consolaron y animaron a los hermanos con abundancia de palabras.

33 A nd after they had spent some time there, they were dismissed in peace from the brethren unto those that had sent them forth.

Después de pasar algún tiempo allí, fueron despedidos en paz por los hermanos para volver a aquellos que los habían enviado.

34 B ut it seemed good unto Silas to abide there.

Sin embargo, a Silas le pareció bien quedarse allí.

35 B ut Paul and Barnabas tarried in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also.

Pablo y Bernabé continuaron en Antioquía, enseñando la palabra del Señor y anunciando el evangelio con otros muchos.

36 A nd after some days Paul said unto Barnabas, Let us return now and visit the brethren in every city wherein we proclaimed the word of the Lord, and see how they fare.

Después de algunos días, Pablo dijo a Bernabé: —Volvamos a visitar a los hermanos en todas las ciudades en que hemos anunciado la palabra del Señor, para ver cómo están.

37 A nd Barnabas was minded to take with them John also, who was called Mark.

Bernabé quería que llevaran consigo a Juan, el que tenía por sobrenombre Marcos,

38 B ut Paul thought not good to take with them him who withdrew from them from Pamphylia, and went not with them to the work.

pero a Pablo no le parecía bien llevar consigo al que se había apartado de ellos desde Panfilia y no había ido con ellos a la obra.

39 A nd there arose a sharp contention, so that they parted asunder one from the other, and Barnabas took Mark with him, and sailed away unto Cyprus;

Hubo tal desacuerdo entre ambos, que se separaron el uno del otro; Bernabé, tomando a Marcos, navegó a Chipre,

40 b ut Paul choose Silas, and went forth, being commended by the brethren to the grace of the Lord.

y Pablo, escogiendo a Silas, salió encomendado por los hermanos a la gracia del Señor,

41 A nd he went through Syria and Cilicia, confirming the churches.

y pasó por Siria y Cilicia, animando a las iglesias.
