1 T hese are the words of the covenant which Jehovah commanded Moses to make with the children of Israel in the land of Moab, besides the covenant which he made with them in Horeb.

Éstas son las palabras del pacto que Jehová mandó a Moisés que celebrara con los hijos de Israel en la tierra de Moab, además del pacto que concertó con ellos en Horeb.

2 A nd Moses called unto all Israel, and said unto them, Ye have seen all that Jehovah did before your eyes in the land of Egypt unto Pharaoh, and unto all his servants, and unto all his land;

Moisés, pues, llamó a todo Israel y les dijo: «Vosotros habéis visto todo lo que Jehová ha hecho ante vuestros ojos en la tierra de Egipto al faraón, a todos sus siervos y a toda su tierra,

3 t he great trials which thine eyes saw, the signs, and those great wonders:

las grandes pruebas que vieron vuestros ojos, las señales y las grandes maravillas.

4 b ut Jehovah hath not given you a heart to know, and eyes to see, and ears to hear, unto this day.

Pero hasta hoy Jehová no os ha dado corazón para entender, ni ojos para ver, ni oídos para oír.

5 A nd I have led you forty years in the wilderness: your clothes are not waxed old upon you, and thy shoe is not waxed old upon thy foot.

Yo os he conducido durante cuarenta años en el desierto, sin que vuestros vestidos hayan envejecido sobre vosotros ni vuestro calzado haya envejecido sobre vuestro pie.

6 Y e have not eaten bread, neither have ye drunk wine or strong drink; that ye may know that I am Jehovah your God.

No habéis comido pan, ni bebisteis vino ni sidra, para que supierais que yo soy Jehová, vuestro Dios.

7 A nd when ye came unto this place, Sihon the king of Heshbon, and Og the king of Bashan, came out against us unto battle, and we smote them:

»Cuando llegasteis a este lugar, salieron Sehón, rey de Hesbón, y Og, rey de Basán, delante de nosotros para pelear; pero los derrotamos,

8 a nd we took their land, and gave it for an inheritance unto the Reubenites, and to the Gadites, and to the half-tribe of the Manassites.

conquistamos su tierra y se la dimos como heredad a Rubén, a Gad y a la media tribu de Manasés.

9 K eep therefore the words of this covenant, and do them, that ye may prosper in all that ye do.

Guardaréis, pues, las palabras de este pacto y las pondréis por obra, para que prosperéis en todo lo que hagáis.

10 Y e stand this day all of you before Jehovah your God; your heads, your tribes, your elders, and your officers, even all the men of Israel,

»Vosotros todos estáis hoy en presencia de Jehová, vuestro Dios: los cabezas de vuestras tribus, vuestros ancianos y vuestros oficiales, todos los hombres de Israel;

11 y our little ones, your wives, and thy sojourner that is in the midst of thy camps, from the hewer of thy wood unto the drawer of thy water;

vuestros niños, vuestras mujeres y los extranjeros que habitan en medio de tu campamento, desde el que corta tu leña hasta el que saca tu agua;

12 t hat thou mayest enter into the covenant of Jehovah thy God, and into his oath, which Jehovah thy God maketh with thee this day;

para entrar en el pacto de Jehová, tu Dios, que bajo juramento Jehová, tu Dios, concierta hoy contigo,

13 t hat he may establish thee this day unto himself for a people, and that he may be unto thee a God, as he spake unto thee, and as he sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob.

para confirmarte hoy como su pueblo y para que él sea tu Dios, de la manera que te ha dicho y como lo juró a tus padres Abraham, Isaac y Jacob.

14 N either with you only do I make this covenant and this oath,

Y no solamente con vosotros hago yo este pacto y este juramento,

15 b ut with him that standeth here with us this day before Jehovah our God, and also with him that is not here with us this day;

sino con los que están aquí presentes hoy con nosotros delante de Jehová, nuestro Dios, y con los que no están aquí hoy con nosotros.

16 ( for ye know how we dwelt in the land of Egypt, and how we came through the midst of the nations through which ye passed;

Porque vosotros sabéis cómo habitamos en la tierra de Egipto, y cómo hemos pasado en medio de las naciones por las cuales habéis pasado.

17 a nd ye have seen their abominations, and their idols, wood and stone, silver and gold, which were among them);

Habéis visto sus abominaciones y los ídolos de madera y piedra, de plata y oro, que tienen consigo.

18 l est there should be among you man, or woman, or family, or tribe, whose heart turneth away this day from Jehovah our God, to go to serve the gods of those nations; lest there should be among you a root that beareth gall and wormwood;

No sea que haya entre vosotros hombre o mujer, familia o tribu, cuyo corazón se aparte hoy de Jehová, nuestro Dios, para ir a servir a los dioses de esas naciones; no sea que haya en medio de vosotros raíz que produzca hiel y ajenjo,

19 a nd it come to pass, when he heareth the words of this curse, that he bless himself in his heart, saying, I shall have peace, though I walk in the stubbornness of my heart, to destroy the moist with the dry.

y después de oír las palabras de esta maldición, él se congratule en su corazón, diciendo: “Tendré paz, aunque ande en la dureza de mi corazón, puesto que con la embriaguez se aplaca la sed.”

20 J ehovah will not pardon him, but then the anger of Jehovah and his jealousy will smoke against that man, and all the curse that is written in this book shall lie upon him, and Jehovah will blot out his name from under heaven.

No querrá Jehová perdonarlo, sino que entonces humeará la ira de Jehová y su celo sobre ese hombre, se asentará sobre él toda maldición escrita en este libro y Jehová borrará su nombre de debajo del cielo.

21 A nd Jehovah will set him apart unto evil out of all the tribes of Israel, according to all the curses of the covenant that is written in this book of the law.

Jehová lo apartará de todas las tribus de Israel para mal, conforme a todas las maldiciones del pacto escrito en este libro de la Ley.

22 A nd the generation to come, your children that shall rise up after you, and the foreigner that shall come from a far land, shall say, when they see the plagues of that land, and the sicknesses wherewith Jehovah hath made it sick;

»Y las generaciones venideras, vuestros hijos que se levanten después de vosotros, y el extranjero que vendrá de lejanas tierras, cuando vean las plagas de aquella tierra y las enfermedades de que Jehová la habrá hecho enfermar, dirán:

23 a nd that the whole land thereof is brimstone, and salt, and a burning, that it is not sown, nor beareth, nor any grass groweth therein, like the overthrow of Sodom and Gomorrah, Admah and Zeboiim, which Jehovah overthrew in his anger, and in his wrath:

“Azufre y sal, abrasada está toda su tierra; no será sembrada ni producirá, ni crecerá en ella hierba alguna, como sucedió en la destrucción de Sodoma y de Gomorra, de Adma y de Zeboim, las cuales Jehová destruyó en su furor y en su ira.”

24 e ven all the nations shall say, Wherefore hath Jehovah done thus unto this land? what meaneth the heat of this great anger?

Más aún, todas las naciones preguntarán: “¿Por qué hizo esto Jehová a esta tierra? ¿Qué significa el ardor de esta gran ira?”

25 T hen men shall say, Because they forsook the covenant of Jehovah, the God of their fathers, which he made with them when he brought them forth out of the land of Egypt,

Entonces responderán: “Por cuanto dejaron el pacto de Jehová, el Dios de sus padres, que él concertó con ellos cuando los sacó de la tierra de Egipto;

26 a nd went and served other gods, and worshipped them, gods that they knew not, and that he had not given unto them:

fueron a servir a dioses ajenos, y se inclinaron ante dioses que no conocían y que ninguna cosa les habían dado.

27 t herefore the anger of Jehovah was kindled against this land, to bring upon it all the curse that is written in this book;

Por tanto, se encendió la ira de Jehová contra esta tierra, para traer sobre ella todas las maldiciones escritas en este libro.

28 a nd Jehovah rooted them out of their land in anger, and in wrath, and in great indignation, and cast them into another land, as at this day.

Jehová los desarraigó de su tierra con ira, con furor y con gran indignación, y los arrojó a otra tierra, como hoy se ve.”

29 T he secret things belong unto Jehovah our God; but the things that are revealed belong unto us and to our children for ever, that we may do all the words of this law.

»Las cosas secretas pertenecen a Jehová, nuestro Dios, pero las reveladas son para nosotros y para nuestros hijos para siempre, a fin de que cumplamos todas las palabras de esta Ley.
