1 A nd the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,

Vino a mí palabra de Jehová, diciendo:

2 S on of man, put forth a riddle, and speak a parable unto the house of Israel;

«Hijo de hombre, propón una figura y narra una parábola a la casa de Israel.

3 a nd say, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: A great eagle with great wings and long pinions, full of feathers, which had divers colors, came unto Lebanon, and took the top of the cedar:

Dirás: “Así ha dicho Jehová, el Señor: »”Una gran águila, de grandes alas y largos miembros, llena de plumas de diversos colores, vino al Líbano y tomó el cogollo de un cedro.

4 h e cropped off the topmost of the young twigs thereof, and carried it unto a land of traffic; he set it in a city of merchants.

Arrancó el principal de sus renuevos, lo llevó a tierra de mercaderes y lo puso en una ciudad de comerciantes.

5 H e took also of the seed of the land, and planted it in a fruitful soil; he placed it beside many waters; he set it as a willow-tree.

Tomó también de la simiente de la tierra y la puso en un campo bueno para sembrar. La plantó junto a aguas abundantes, a manera de un sauce.

6 A nd it grew, and became a spreading vine of low stature, whose branches turned toward him, and the roots thereof were under him: so it became a vine, and brought forth branches, and shot forth sprigs.

Brotó, se hizo una vid de mucho ramaje y poca altura; sus ramas miraban al águila y sus raíces estaban debajo de ella. Así que se convirtió en una vid que hizo sarmientos y echó mugrones.

7 T here was also another great eagle with great wings and many feathers: and, behold, this vine did bend its roots toward him, and shot forth its branches toward him, from the beds of its plantation, that he might water it.

»”Había también otra gran águila, de grandes alas y espeso plumaje. Y he aquí, la vid llevó hacia ella sus raíces y extendió hacia ella sus ramas, para ser regada por ella por los surcos de su plantío.

8 I t was planted in a good soil by many waters, that it might bring forth branches, and that it might bear fruit, that it might be a goodly vine.

En un buen campo, junto a muchas aguas, fue plantada, para que echara ramas y diera fruto, y para que fuera vid robusta.”

9 S ay thou, Thus saith the Lord Jehovah: Shall it prosper? shall he not pull up the roots thereof, and cut off the fruit thereof, that it may wither; that all its fresh springing leaves may wither? and not by a strong arm or much people can it be raised from the roots thereof.

»Diles: “Así ha dicho Jehová, el Señor: »”¿Será prosperada? ¿No arrancará sus raíces, destruirá su fruto y se secará? Todas sus hojas lozanas se secarán; y eso sin gran poder ni mucha gente para arrancarla de raíz.

10 Y ea, behold, being planted, shall it prosper? shall it not utterly wither, when the east wind toucheth it? it shall wither in the beds where it grew.

He aquí, está plantada: ¿Será prosperada? ¿No se secará del todo cuando el viento del este la toque? ¡En los mismos surcos de su verdor, se secará!”»

11 M oreover the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying,

Vino a mí palabra de Jehová, diciendo:

12 S ay now to the rebellious house, Know ye not what these things mean? tell them, Behold, the king of Babylon came to Jerusalem, and took the king thereof, and the princes thereof, and brought them to him to Babylon:

«Di ahora a la casa rebelde: “¿No habéis entendido qué significan estas cosas?” Diles: “He aquí que el rey de Babilonia vino a Jerusalén, tomó a tu rey y a sus jefes y los llevó consigo a Babilonia.

13 a nd he took of the seed royal, and made a covenant with him; he also brought him under an oath, and took away the mighty of the land;

Tomó también a uno de la descendencia real, hizo pacto con él y le hizo prestar juramento. Y se llevó consigo a los poderosos de la tierra,

14 t hat the kingdom might be base, that it might not lift itself up, but that by keeping his covenant it might stand.

para que el reino fuera abatido y no se levantara, a fin de que, guardando el pacto, permaneciera en pie.

15 B ut he rebelled against him in sending his ambassadors into Egypt, that they might give him horses and much people. Shall he prosper? shall he escape that doeth such things? shall he break the covenant, and yet escape?

Pero se rebeló contra él, enviando embajadores a Egipto para que le diera caballos y mucha gente. ¿Será prosperado, escapará el que estas cosas hizo? El que rompió el pacto, ¿podrá escapar?

16 A s I live, saith the Lord Jehovah, surely in the place where the king dwelleth that made him king, whose oath he despised, and whose covenant he brake, even with him in the midst of Babylon he shall die.

Vivo yo, dice Jehová, el Señor, que morirá en medio de Babilonia, en el lugar donde habita el rey que lo hizo reinar, cuyo juramento menospreció y cuyo pacto, hecho con él, rompió.

17 N either shall Pharaoh with his mighty army and great company help him in the war, when they cast up mounds and build forts, to cut off many persons.

Y ni con gran ejército ni con mucha compañía hará el faraón nada por él en la batalla, cuando se levanten terraplenes y se construyan torres para cortar muchas vidas.

18 F or he hath despised the oath by breaking the covenant; and behold, he had given his hand, and yet hath done all these things; he shall not escape.

Por cuanto menospreció el juramento y quebrantó el pacto, cuando he aquí que había dado su mano, y ha hecho todas estas cosas, no escapará.

19 T herefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: As I live, surely mine oath that he hath despised, and my covenant that he hath broken, I will even bring it upon his own head.

Por tanto, así ha dicho Jehová, el Señor: Vivo yo, que el juramento mío que menospreció y mi pacto que ha quebrantado, los haré caer sobre su propia cabeza.

20 A nd I will spread my net upon him, and he shall be taken in my snare, and I will bring him to Babylon, and will enter into judgment with him there for his trespass that he hath trespassed against me.

Extenderé sobre él mi red y quedará preso en mi trampa. Lo haré venir a Babilonia, y allí entraré en juicio con él por su infidelidad que contra mí ha cometido.

21 A nd all his fugitives in all his bands shall fall by the sword, and they that remain shall be scattered toward every wind: and ye shall know that I, Jehovah, have spoken it.

Y todos sus fugitivos, con todas sus tropas, caerán a espada, y los que queden serán esparcidos a todos los vientos. Y sabréis que yo, Jehová, he hablado.

22 T hus saith the Lord Jehovah: I will also take of the lofty top of the cedar, and will set it; I will crop off from the topmost of its young twigs a tender one, and I will plant it upon a high and lofty mountain:

»”Así ha dicho Jehová, el Señor: »”Tomaré yo del cogollo de aquel alto cedro y lo plantaré; del principal de sus renuevos cortaré un tallo y lo plantaré sobre un monte muy elevado.

23 i n the mountain of the height of Israel will I plant it; and it shall bring forth boughs, and bear fruit, and be a goodly cedar: and under it shall dwell all birds of every wing; in the shade of the branches thereof shall they dwell.

En el monte alto de Israel lo plantaré. Levantará sus ramas, dará fruto y se hará un cedro magnífico. Habitarán debajo de él todas las aves de toda especie; a la sombra de sus ramas habitarán.

24 A nd all the trees of the field shall know that I, Jehovah, have brought down the high tree, have exalted the low tree, have dried up the green tree, and have made the dry tree to flourish; I, Jehovah, have spoken and have done it.

Y sabrán todos los árboles del campo que yo, Jehová, abatí el árbol elevado y levanté el árbol bajo, hice secar el árbol verde e hice reverdecer el árbol seco. Yo, Jehová, lo he dicho, y lo haré.”»
