1 T hen Joseph went in and told Pharaoh, and said, My father and my brethren, and their flocks, and their herds, and all that they have, are come out of the land of Canaan; and, behold, they are in the land of Goshen.

Fue José y lo hizo saber al faraón. Le dijo: —Mi padre y mis hermanos, con sus ovejas, sus vacas y todo lo que tienen, han venido de la tierra de Canaán y están en la tierra de Gosén.

2 A nd from among his brethren he took five men, and presented them unto Pharaoh.

Escogió a cinco de sus hermanos y los presentó delante del faraón.

3 A nd Pharaoh said unto his brethren, What is your occupation? And they said unto Pharaoh, Thy servants are shepherds, both we, and our fathers.

Entonces el faraón dijo a sus hermanos: —¿Cuál es vuestro oficio? Ellos respondieron al faraón: —Pastores de ovejas son tus siervos, así nosotros como nuestros padres.

4 A nd they said unto Pharaoh, To sojourn in the land are we come; for there is no pasture for thy servants' flocks; for the famine is sore in the land of Canaan: now therefore, we pray thee, let thy servants dwell in the land of Goshen.

Dijeron además al faraón: —Para habitar en esta tierra hemos venido, porque no hay pasto para las ovejas de tus siervos, pues el hambre es grave en la tierra de Canaán; por tanto, te rogamos ahora que permitas que habiten tus siervos en la tierra de Gosén.

5 A nd Pharaoh spake unto Joseph, saying, Thy father and thy brethren are come unto thee:

Entonces el faraón dijo a José: —Tu padre y tus hermanos han venido a ti.

6 t he land of Egypt is before thee; in the best of the land make thy father and thy brethren to dwell; in the land of Goshen let them dwell: and if thou knowest any able men among them, then make them rulers over my cattle.

Delante de ti está la tierra de Egipto. En lo mejor de la tierra haz habitar a tu padre y a tus hermanos; que habiten en la tierra de Gosén, y si sabes que hay entre ellos hombres capaces, ponlos por mayorales de mi ganado.

7 A nd Joseph brought in Jacob his father, and set him before Pharaoh: and Jacob blessed Pharaoh.

José introdujo también a Jacob, su padre, y lo presentó delante del faraón. Jacob bendijo al faraón,

8 A nd Pharaoh said unto Jacob, How many are the days of the years of thy life?

y el faraón preguntó a Jacob: —¿Cuántos años tienes?

9 A nd Jacob said unto Pharaoh, The days of the years of my pilgrimage are a hundred and thirty years: few and evil have been the days of the years of my life, and they have not attained unto the days of the years of the life of my fathers in the days of their pilgrimage.

Jacob respondió al faraón: —Los años de mi peregrinación son ciento treinta. Pocos y malos han sido los años de mi vida, y no han llegado a los años de la vida de mis padres en los días de su peregrinación.

10 A nd Jacob blessed Pharaoh, and went out from the presence of Pharaoh.

Jacob bendijo al faraón y salió de su presencia.

11 A nd Joseph placed his father and his brethren, and gave them a possession in the land of Egypt, in the best of the land, in the land of Rameses, as Pharaoh had commanded.

Así José hizo habitar a su padre y a sus hermanos, y les dio posesión en la tierra de Egipto, en lo mejor de la tierra, en la tierra de Ramesés, como mandó el faraón.

12 A nd Joseph nourished his father, and his brethren, and all his father's household, with bread, according to their families.

Y alimentaba José con pan a su padre, a sus hermanos y a toda la casa de su padre, según el número de los hijos.

13 A nd there was no bread in all the land; for the famine was very sore, so that the land of Egypt and the land of Canaan fainted by reason of the famine.

No había pan en toda la tierra, y el hambre era muy grave, por lo que desfallecían de hambre la tierra de Egipto y la tierra de Canaán.

14 A nd Joseph gathered up all the money that was found in the land of Egypt, and in the land of Canaan, for the grain which they bought: and Joseph brought the money into Pharaoh's house.

Recogió entonces José todo el dinero que la tierra de Egipto y la tierra de Canaán le habían pagado por los alimentos que de él compraban; y metió José el dinero en casa del faraón.

15 A nd when the money was all spent in the land of Egypt, and in the land of Canaan, all the Egyptians came unto Joseph, and said, Give us bread: for why should we die in thy presence? for our money faileth.

Cuando se acabó el dinero de la tierra de Egipto y de la tierra de Canaán, vino todo Egipto a José, diciendo: —Danos pan; ¿por qué moriremos delante de ti, por haberse acabado el dinero?

16 A nd Joseph said, Give your cattle; and I will give you for your cattle, if money fail.

José respondió: —Si se ha acabado el dinero, entregad vuestros ganados, y yo os daré trigo por vuestros ganados.

17 A nd they brought their cattle unto Joseph; and Joseph gave them bread in exchange for the horses, and for the flocks, and for the herds, and for the asses: and he fed them with bread in exchange for all their cattle for that year.

Trajeron ellos sus ganados a José, y José les dio alimentos a cambio de caballos, ovejas, vacas y asnos; los abasteció de pan aquel año a cambio de todos sus ganados.

18 A nd when that year was ended, they came unto him the second year, and said unto him, We will not hide from my lord, how that our money is all spent; and the herds of cattle are my lord's; there is nought left in the sight of my lord, but our bodies, and our lands:

Acabado aquel año, vinieron a él el segundo año, y le dijeron: —No ocultamos a nuestro señor que el dinero ciertamente se ha acabado, y también el ganado es ya de nuestro señor. Nada ha quedado delante de nuestro señor, sino nuestros cuerpos y nuestra tierra.

19 w herefore should we die before thine eyes, both we and our land? buy us and our land for bread, and we and our land will be servants unto Pharaoh: and give us seed, that we may live, and not die, and that the land be not desolate.

¿Por qué moriremos delante de tus ojos, así nosotros como nuestra tierra? Cómpranos a nosotros y a nuestra tierra por pan, y nosotros y nuestra tierra seremos siervos del faraón; danos semilla para que vivamos y no muramos, y que no sea asolada la tierra.

20 S o Joseph bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh; for the Egyptians sold every man his field, because the famine was sore upon them: and the land became Pharaoh's.

Entonces compró José para el faraón toda la tierra de Egipto, pues los egipcios vendieron cada uno sus tierras, porque se agravó el hambre que pesaba sobre ellos. La tierra pasó así a ser del faraón.

21 A nd as for the people, he removed them to the cities from one end of the border of Egypt even to the other end thereof.

Y al pueblo lo hizo pasar a las ciudades, desde un extremo al otro del territorio de Egipto.

22 O nly the land of the priests bought he not: for the priests had a portion from Pharaoh, and did eat their portion which Pharaoh gave them; wherefore they sold not their land.

Solamente la tierra de los sacerdotes no compró, por cuanto los sacerdotes recibían trigo del faraón y comían del trigo que el faraón les daba; por eso no vendieron su tierra.

23 T hen Joseph said unto the people, Behold, I have bought you this day and your land for Pharaoh: lo, here is seed for you, and ye shall sow the land.

Luego José dijo al pueblo: —Os he comprado hoy, a vosotros y a vuestra tierra, para el faraón; aquí tenéis semilla para sembrar la tierra.

24 A nd it shall come to pass at the ingatherings, that ye shall give a fifth unto Pharaoh, and four parts shall be your own, for seed of the field, and for your food, and for them of your households, and for food for your little ones.

De los frutos daréis la quinta parte al faraón; las otras cuatro partes serán vuestras, para sembrar las tierras y para vuestra manutención, y también de los que están en vuestras casas, para que coman vuestros niños.

25 A nd they said, Thou hast saved our lives: let us find favor in the sight of my lord, and we will be Pharaoh's servants.

Ellos respondieron: —La vida nos has dado. Hallemos gracia a los ojos de nuestro señor, y seamos siervos del faraón.

26 A nd Joseph made it a statute concerning the land of Egypt unto this day, that Pharaoh should have the fifth; only the land of the priests alone became not Pharaoh's.

Entonces José puso por ley hasta hoy sobre la tierra de Egipto que se diera al faraón la quinta parte de las cosechas. Tan sólo la tierra de los sacerdotes no pasó a ser del faraón.

27 A nd Israel dwelt in the land of Egypt, in the land of Goshen; and they gat them possessions therein, and were fruitful, and multiplied exceedingly.

Así habitó Israel en la tierra de Egipto, en la tierra de Gosén; tomaron posesión de ella, se aumentaron y se multiplicaron en gran manera.

28 A nd Jacob lived in the land of Egypt seventeen years: so the days of Jacob, the years of his life, were a hundred forty and seven years.

Jacob vivió en la tierra de Egipto diecisiete años, y fueron los días de Jacob, los años de su vida, ciento cuarenta y siete años.

29 A nd the time drew near that Israel must die: and he called his son Joseph, and said unto him, If now I have found favor in thy sight, put, I pray thee, thy hand under my thigh, and deal kindly and truly with me: bury me not, I pray thee, in Egypt;

Cuando los días de Israel tocaban a su fin, llamó a José, su hijo, y le dijo: —Si he hallado ahora gracia a tus ojos, te ruego que pongas tu mano debajo de mi muslo y que me trates con misericordia y lealtad. Te ruego que no me entierres en Egipto.

30 b ut when I sleep with my fathers, thou shalt carry me out of Egypt, and bury me in their burying-place. And he said, I will do as thou hast said.

Cuando duerma con mis padres, me llevarás de Egipto y me sepultarás en el sepulcro de ellos. —Haré como tú dices —respondió José.

31 A nd he said, Swear unto me: and he sware unto him. And Israel bowed himself upon the bed's head.

—Júramelo —dijo Israel. Y José se lo juró. Entonces Israel se inclinó sobre la cabecera de la cama.
