1 A nd Jehovah said unto me, Take thee a great tablet, and write upon it with the pen of a man, For Maher-shalal-hash-baz;

Me dijo Jehová: —Toma una tabla grande y escribe en ella con caracteres legibles tocante a Maher-salal-hasbaz.

2 a nd I will take unto me faithful witnesses to record, Uriah the priest, and Zechariah the son of Jeberechiah.

Y junté conmigo por testigos fieles al sacerdote Urías y a Zacarías hijo de Jeberequías.

3 A nd I went unto the prophetess; and she conceived, and bare a son. Then said Jehovah unto me, Call his name Maher-shalal-hash-baz.

Me llegué a la profetisa, la cual concibió y dio a luz un hijo. Y me dijo Jehová: «Ponle por nombre Maher-salal-hasbaz.

4 F or before the child shall have knowledge to cry, My father, and, My mother, the riches of Damascus and the spoil of Samaria shall be carried away before the king of Assyria.

Porque antes que el niño sepa decir “padre mío” y “madre mía”, será quitada la riqueza de Damasco y los despojos de Samaria delante del rey de Asiria.»

5 A nd Jehovah spake unto me yet again, saying,

Otra vez volvió Jehová a hablarme, diciendo:

6 F orasmuch as this people have refused the waters of Shiloah that go softly, and rejoice in Rezin and Remaliah's son;

«Por cuanto desechó este pueblo las aguas de Siloé, que corren mansamente, y se regocijó con Rezín y con el hijo de Remalías,

7 n ow therefore, behold, the Lord bringeth up upon them the waters of the River, strong and many, even the king of Assyria and all his glory: and it shall come up over all its channels, and go over all its banks;

he aquí, por tanto, que el Señor hace subir sobre ellos aguas de ríos, impetuosas y abundantes: al rey de Asiria con todo su poder. Él rebasará todos sus ríos y desbordará sobre todas sus riberas;

8 a nd it shall sweep onward into Judah; it shall overflow and pass through; it shall reach even to the neck; and the stretching out of its wings shall fill the breadth of thy land, O Immanuel.

y, pasando por Judá, inundará y seguirá creciendo hasta llegar a la garganta. Luego, extendiendo sus alas, llenará la anchura de tu tierra, Emanuel.

9 M ake an uproar, O ye peoples, and be broken in pieces; and give ear, all ye of far countries: gird yourselves, and be broken in pieces; gird yourselves, and be broken in pieces.

»Reuníos, pueblos, y seréis quebrantados. Oíd, todos los que sois de lejanas tierras: ceñíos, y seréis quebrantados; preparaos, y seréis quebrantados.

10 T ake counsel together, and it shall be brought to nought; speak the word, and it shall not stand: for God is with us.

Haced planes, y serán anulados; proferid palabra, y no será firme, porque Dios está con nosotros.»

11 F or Jehovah spake thus to me with a strong hand, and instructed me not to walk in the way of this people, saying,

Porque Jehová me habló de esta manera con mano fuerte y me advirtió que no caminara por el camino de este pueblo, diciendo:

12 S ay ye not, A conspiracy, concerning all whereof this people shall say, A conspiracy; neither fear ye their fear, nor be in dread thereof.

«No llaméis conspiración a todas las cosas que este pueblo llama conspiración, ni temáis lo que ellos temen, ni tengáis miedo.

13 J ehovah of hosts, him shall ye sanctify; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread.

A Jehová de los ejércitos, a él santificad; sea él vuestro temor, y él sea vuestro miedo.

14 A nd he shall be for a sanctuary; but for a stone of stumbling and for a rock of offence to both the houses of Israel, for a gin and for a snare to the inhabitants of Jerusalem.

Entonces él será por santuario; pero a las dos casas de Israel, por piedra para tropezar, por tropezadero para caer y por lazo y red al morador de Jerusalén.

15 A nd many shall stumble thereon, and fall, and be broken, and be snared, and be taken.

Muchos de entre ellos tropezarán, caerán y serán quebrantados; se enredarán y serán apresados.

16 B ind thou up the testimony, seal the law among my disciples.

»Ata el testimonio, sella la instrucción entre mis discípulos.

17 A nd I will wait for Jehovah, that hideth his face from the house of Jacob, and I will look for him.

»Esperaré, pues, a Jehová, el cual escondió su rostro de la casa de Jacob. En él confiaré.

18 B ehold, I and the children whom Jehovah hath given me are for signs and for wonders in Israel from Jehovah of hosts, who dwelleth in mount Zion.

He aquí que yo y los hijos que me dio Jehová somos por señales y presagios en Israel, de parte de Jehová de los ejércitos, que mora en el monte Sión.

19 A nd when they shall say unto you, Seek unto them that have familiar spirits and unto the wizards, that chirp and that mutter: should not a people seek unto their God? on behalf of the living should they seek unto the dead?

Si os dicen: “Preguntad a los encantadores y a los adivinos, que susurran hablando”, responded: “¿No consultará el pueblo a su Dios? ¿Consultará a los muertos por los vivos?”

20 T o the law and to the testimony! if they speak not according to this word, surely there is no morning for them.

¡A la ley y al testimonio! Si no dicen conforme a esto, es porque no les ha amanecido.

21 A nd they shall pass through it, sore distressed and hungry; and it shall come to pass that, when they shall be hungry, they shall fret themselves, and curse by their king and by their God, and turn their faces upward:

»Pasarán por la tierra fatigados y hambrientos, y acontecerá que, a causa del hambre, se enojarán y maldecirán a su rey y a su Dios, levantando el rostro con altivez.

22 a nd they shall look unto the earth, and behold, distress and darkness, the gloom of anguish; and into thick darkness they shall be driven away.

Y mirarán a la tierra, y he aquí tribulación y tinieblas, oscuridad y angustia; y quedarán sumidos en las tinieblas.»
