1 M oreover, take thou up a lamentation for the princes of Israel,

»Levanta tú esta lamentación sobre los príncipes de Israel.

2 a nd say, What was thy mother? A lioness: she couched among lions, in the midst of the young lions she nourished her whelps.

Dirás: »“¡Cómo se echó entre los leones tu madre, la leona! Entre los leoncillos crió sus cachorros.

3 A nd she brought up one of her whelps: he became a young lion, and he learned to catch the prey; he devoured men.

Ella hizo subir uno de sus cachorros, que llegó a ser un leoncillo y aprendió a arrebatar la presa y a devorar a seres humanos.

4 T he nations also heard of him; he was taken in their pit; and they brought him with hooks unto the land of Egypt.

Las naciones oyeron de él; fue tomado en la trampa de ellas, y lo llevaron con grillos a la tierra de Egipto.

5 N ow when she saw that she had waited, and her hope was lost, then she took another of her whelps, and made him a young lion.

Viendo ella que había esperado demasiado tiempo y que se perdía su esperanza, tomó otro de sus cachorros y lo puso por leoncillo.

6 A nd he went up and down among the lions; he became a young lion, and he learned to catch the prey; he devoured men.

Y él andaba entre los leones; se hizo un leoncillo, aprendió a arrebatar la presa, devoró seres humanos.

7 A nd he knew their palaces, and laid waste their cities; and the land was desolate, and the fulness thereof, because of the noise of his roaring.

Saqueó fortalezas y asoló ciudades. La tierra, con cuanto había en ella, quedó desolada al estruendo de sus rugidos.

8 T hen the nations set against him on every side from the provinces; and they spread their net over him; he was taken in their pit.

Arremetieron contra él las gentes de las provincias de alrededor; extendieron sobre él su red y en el foso fue apresado.

9 A nd they put him in a cage with hooks, and brought him to the king of Babylon; they brought him into strongholds, that his voice should no more be heard upon the mountains of Israel.

Lo pusieron en una jaula y lo encadenaron: encadenado lo llevaron al rey de Babilonia. Lo pusieron en las fortalezas, para que su voz no se oyera más sobre los montes de Israel.

10 T hy mother was like a vine, in thy blood, planted by the waters: it was fruitful and full of branches by reason of many waters.

»”Tu madre fue como una vid plantada en medio de la viña, junto a las aguas, que da fruto y echa vástagos a causa de las muchas aguas.

11 A nd it had strong rods for the sceptres of them that bare rule, and their stature was exalted among the thick boughs, and they were seen in their height with the multitude of their branches.

Y ella tuvo varas fuertes, para cetros de reyes; elevó su estatura por encima del ramaje, y fue vista por causa de su altura y por la abundancia de sus sarmientos.

12 B ut it was plucked up in fury, it was cast down to the ground, and the east wind dried up its fruit: its strong rods were broken off and withered; the fire consumed them.

Pero fue arrancada con ira, derribada en tierra. El viento del este secó su fruto y sus fuertes ramas fueron quebradas y se secaron consumidas por el fuego.

13 A nd now it is planted in the wilderness, in a dry and thirsty land.

Ahora está plantada en el desierto, en tierra de sequedad y de aridez.

14 A nd fire is gone out of the rods of its branches, it hath devoured its fruit, so that there is in it no strong rod to be a sceptre to rule. This is a lamentation, and shall be for a lamentation.

Y de la vara de sus ramas ha salido fuego que ha consumido su fruto, y no ha quedado en ella vara fuerte para cetro de reyes.” »Una lamentación es ésta, y de lamentación servirá.»
