1 A nd Ahab told Jezebel all that Elijah had done, and withal how he had slain all the prophets with the sword.

Acab dio a Jezabel la noticia de todo lo que Elías había hecho y de cómo había matado a espada a todos los profetas.

2 T hen Jezebel send a messenger unto Elijah, saying, So let the gods do to me, and more also, if I make not thy life as the life of one of them by to-morrow about this time.

Entonces envió Jezabel a Elías un mensajero para decirle: «Traigan los dioses sobre mí el peor de los castigos, si mañana a estas horas no he puesto tu persona como la de uno de ellos.»

3 A nd when he saw that, he arose, and went for his life, and came to Beer-sheba, which belongeth to Judah, and left his servant there.

Viendo Elías el peligro, se levantó y se fue para salvar su vida. Al llegar a Beerseba, que está en Judá, dejó allí a su criado.

4 B ut he himself went a day's journey into the wilderness, and came and sat down under a juniper-tree: and he requested for himself that he might die, and said, It is enough; now, O Jehovah, take away my life; for I am not better than my fathers.

Luego de caminar todo un día por el desierto, fue a sentarse debajo de un enebro. Entonces se deseó la muerte y dijo: «Basta ya, Jehová, quítame la vida, pues no soy yo mejor que mis padres.»

5 A nd he lay down and slept under a juniper-tree; and, behold, an angel touched him, and said unto him, Arise and eat.

Y echándose debajo del enebro, se quedó dormido; pero un ángel lo tocó, y le dijo: «Levántate y come.»

6 A nd he looked, and, behold, there was at his head a cake baken on the coals, and a cruse of water. And he did eat and drink, and laid him down again.

Miró y vio a su cabecera una torta cocida sobre las ascuas y una vasija de agua; comió, bebió y volvió a dormirse.

7 A nd the angel of Jehovah came again the second time, and touched him, and said, Arise and eat, because the journey is too great for thee.

Regresó el ángel de Jehová por segunda vez, lo tocó y le dijo: «Levántate y come, porque largo camino te resta.»

8 A nd he arose, and did eat and drink, and went in the strength of that food forty days and forty nights unto Horeb the mount of God.

Se levantó, pues, comió y bebió. Fortalecido con aquella comida anduvo cuarenta días y cuarenta noches hasta Horeb, el monte de Dios.

9 A nd he came thither unto a cave, and lodged there; and, behold, the word of Jehovah came to him, and he said unto him, What doest thou here, Elijah?

Allí se metió en una cueva, donde pasó la noche. Llegó a él palabra de Jehová, el cual le dijo: —¿Qué haces aquí, Elías?

10 A nd he said, I have been very jealous for Jehovah, the God of hosts; for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword: and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

Él respondió: —He sentido un vivo celo por Jehová, Dios de los ejércitos, porque los hijos de Israel han dejado tu pacto, han derribado tus altares y han matado a espada a tus profetas. Sólo yo he quedado y me buscan para quitarme la vida.

11 A nd he said, Go forth, and stand upon the mount before Jehovah. And, behold, Jehovah passed by, and a great and strong wind rent the mountains, and brake in pieces the rocks before Jehovah; but Jehovah was not in the wind: and after the wind an earthquake; but Jehovah was not in the earthquake:

Jehová le dijo: —Sal fuera y ponte en el monte delante de Jehová. En ese momento pasaba Jehová, y un viento grande y poderoso rompía los montes y quebraba las peñas delante de Jehová; pero Jehová no estaba en el viento. Tras el viento hubo un terremoto; pero Jehová no estaba en el terremoto.

12 a nd after the earthquake a fire; but Jehovah was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.

Tras el terremoto hubo un fuego; pero Jehová no estaba en el fuego. Y tras el fuego se escuchó un silbo apacible y delicado.

13 A nd it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entrance of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah?

Cuando Elías lo oyó, se cubrió el rostro con el manto, salió y se puso a la puerta de la cueva. Entonces le llegó una voz que le decía: —¿Qué haces aquí, Elías?

14 A nd he said, I have been very jealous for Jehovah, the God of hosts; for the children of Israel have forsaken thy covenant, thrown down thine altars, and slain thy prophets with the sword; and I, even I only, am left; and they seek my life, to take it away.

Él respondió: —He sentido un vivo celo por Jehová, Dios de los ejércitos; porque los hijos de Israel han dejado tu pacto, han derribado tus altares y han matado a espada a tus profetas. Sólo yo he quedado y me buscan para quitarme la vida.

15 A nd Jehovah said unto him, Go, return on thy way to the wilderness of Damascus: and when thou comest, thou shalt anoint Hazael to be king over Syria;

Jehová le dijo: —Ve, vuelve por el mismo camino, hacia el desierto de Damasco. Llegarás y ungirás a Hazael como rey de Siria.

16 a nd Jehu the son of Nimshi shalt thou anoint to be king over Israel; and Elisha the son of Shaphat of Abel-meholah shalt thou anoint to be prophet in thy room.

A Jehú hijo de Nimsi lo ungirás como rey de Israel, y a Eliseo hijo de Safat, de Abel-mehola, lo ungirás como profeta para que ocupe tu lugar.

17 A nd it shall come to pass, that him that escapeth from the sword of Hazael shall Jehu slay; and him that escapeth from the sword of Jehu shall Elisha slay.

Al que escape de la espada de Hazael, Jehú lo matará, y al que escape de la espada de Jehú, Eliseo lo matará.

18 Y et will I leave me seven thousand in Israel, all the knees which have not bowed unto Baal, and every mouth which hath not kissed him.

Pero haré que queden en Israel siete mil, cuyas rodillas no se doblaron ante Baal y cuyas bocas no lo besaron. Llamamiento de Eliseo

19 S o he departed thence, and found Elisha the son of Shaphat, who was plowing, with twelve yoke of oxen before him, and he with the twelfth: and Elijah passed over unto him, and cast his mantle upon him.

Partió de allí Elías y halló a Eliseo hijo de Safat, que estaba arando. Delante de él iban doce yuntas de bueyes, y él conducía la última. Elías pasó ante él y echó sobre él su manto.

20 A nd he left the oxen, and ran after Elijah, and said, Let me, I pray thee, kiss my father and my mother, and then I will follow thee. And he said unto him, Go back again; for what have I done to thee?

Entonces dejó los bueyes, salió corriendo detrás de Elías y le dijo: —Te ruego que me dejes besar a mi padre y a mi madre; luego te seguiré. Y él le dijo: —Ve, regresa; ¿acaso te lo he impedido?

21 A nd he returned from following him, and took the yoke of oxen, and slew them, and boiled their flesh with the instruments of the oxen, and gave unto the people, and they did eat. Then he arose, and went after Elijah, and ministered unto him.

Regresó Eliseo, tomó un par de bueyes y los mató; con el arado de los bueyes coció luego la carne y la dio al pueblo para que comieran. Después se levantó, se fue tras Elías y lo servía.
