1 N ow the Philistines had taken the ark of God, and they brought it from Eben-ezer unto Ashdod.

2 A nd the Philistines took the ark of God, and brought it into the house of Dagon, and set it by Dagon.

Tomaron los filisteos el Arca de Dios, la metieron en la casa de Dagón y la pusieron junto a Dagón.

3 A nd when they of Ashdod arose early on the morrow, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of Jehovah. And they took Dagon, and set him in his place again.

Cuando al siguiente día los de Asdod se levantaron de mañana, encontraron a Dagón postrado en tierra delante del Arca de Jehová. Tomaron a Dagón y lo devolvieron a su lugar.

4 A nd when they arose early on the morrow morning, behold, Dagon was fallen upon his face to the ground before the ark of Jehovah; and the head of Dagon and both the palms of his hands lay cut off upon the threshold; only the stump of Dagon was left to him.

Al levantarse de nuevo de mañana, al siguiente día, Dagón había caído postrado en tierra delante del Arca de Jehová, y la cabeza de Dagón y sus dos manos estaban cortadas sobre el umbral; a Dagón solamente le quedaba el tronco.

5 T herefore neither the priests of Dagon, nor any that come into Dagon's house, tread on the threshold of Dagon in Ashdod, unto this day.

Por esta causa, los sacerdotes de Dagón y todos los que entran en el templo de Dagón no pisan el umbral de Dagón en Asdod, hasta el día de hoy.

6 B ut the hand of Jehovah was heavy upon them of Ashdod, and he destroyed them, and smote them with tumors, even Ashdod and the borders thereof.

La mano de Jehová cayó sobre los de Asdod y los destruyó, hiriéndolos con tumores, en Asdod y en todo su territorio.

7 A nd when the men of Ashdod saw that it was so, they said, The ark of the God of Israel shall not abide with us; for his hand is sore upon us, and upon Dagon our god.

Al ver esto, los de Asdod dijeron: «Que no se quede entre nosotros el Arca del Dios de Israel, porque su mano se ha endurecido contra nosotros y contra nuestro dios Dagón.»

8 T hey sent therefore and gathered all the lords of the Philistines unto them, and said, What shall we do with the ark of the God of Israel? And they answered, Let the ark of the God of Israel be carried about unto Gath. And they carried the ark of the God of Israel thither.

Convocaron, pues, a todos los príncipes de los filisteos, y les preguntaron: —¿Qué haremos con el Arca del Dios de Israel? Ellos respondieron: —Trasládese el Arca del Dios de Israel a Gat. Y trasladaron allá el Arca del Dios de Israel.

9 A nd it was so, that, after they had carried it about, the hand of Jehovah was against the city with a very great discomfiture: and he smote the men of the city, both small and great; and tumors brake out upon them.

Pero cuando se la llevaron, la mano de Jehová cayó sobre la ciudad provocando un gran pánico; y afligió a los hombres de aquella ciudad, y desde el más pequeño hasta el mayor se llenaron de tumores.

10 S o they sent the ark of God to Ekron. And it came to pass, as the ark of God came to Ekron, that the Ekronites cried out, saying, They have brought about the ark of the God of Israel to us, to slay us and our people.

Entonces enviaron el Arca de Dios a Ecrón. Pero cuando el Arca de Dios llegó a Ecrón, los ecronitas exclamaron: «Nos han traído el Arca del Dios de Israel para matarnos a nosotros y a nuestro pueblo».

11 T hey sent therefore and gathered together all the lords of the Philistines, and they said, Send away the ark of the God of Israel, and let it go again to its own place, that is slay us not, and our people. For there was a deadly discomfiture throughout all the city; the hand of God was very heavy there.

Convocaron y reunieron a todos los príncipes de los filisteos y les dijeron: «Enviad el Arca del Dios de Israel, y regrese a su lugar, para que no nos mate a nosotros ni a nuestro pueblo», pues había un terror mortal en toda la ciudad, porque la mano de Dios los había castigado duramente.

12 A nd the men that died not were smitten with the tumors; and the cry of the city went up to heaven.

Los que no morían estaban llenos de tumores, y el clamor de la ciudad subía al cielo.
