1 A nd there happened to be there a base fellow, whose name was Sheba, the son of Bichri, a Benjamite: and he blew the trumpet, and said, We have no portion in David, neither have we inheritance in the son of Jesse: every man to his tents, O Israel.

Aconteció que se encontraba allí un hombre perverso llamado Seba hijo de Bicri, hombre de Benjamín, el cual tocó la trompeta, y exclamó: «No tenemos parte con David, ni heredad con el hijo de Isaí. ¡Cada uno a su tienda, Israel!»

2 S o all the men of Israel went up from following David, and followed Sheba the son of Bichri; but the men of Judah clave unto their king, from the Jordan even to Jerusalem.

Así todos los hombres de Israel abandonaron a David para seguir a Seba hijo de Bicri; pero los de Judá siguieron a su rey desde el Jordán hasta Jerusalén.

3 A nd David came to his house at Jerusalem; and the king took the ten women his concubines, whom he had left to keep the house, and put them in ward, and provided them with sustenance, but went not in unto them. So they were shut up unto the day of their death, living in widowhood.

Cuando David llegó a su casa en Jerusalén, tomó el rey las diez mujeres concubinas que había dejado para guardar la casa, las puso en reclusión y les dio alimentos; pero nunca más se llegó a ellas, sino que quedaron encerradas hasta que murieron en viudez perpetua.

4 T hen said the king to Amasa, Call me the men of Judah together within three days, and be thou here present.

Después dijo el rey a Amasa: —Convócame a los hombres de Judá para dentro de tres días, y preséntate tú también.

5 S o Amasa went to call the men of Judah together; but he tarried longer than the set time which he had appointed him.

Fue, pues, Amasa para convocar a los de Judá, pero se tardó más tiempo del que le había sido señalado.

6 A nd David said to Abishai, Now will Sheba the son of Bichri do us more harm than did Absalom: take thou thy lord's servants, and pursue after him, lest he get him fortified cities, and escape out of our sight.

Entonces David dijo a Abisai: —Seba hijo de Bicri nos hará ahora más daño que Absalón; toma tú, pues, los siervos de tu señor y ve tras él, no sea que alcance las ciudades fortificadas y nos cause dificultad.

7 A nd there went out after him Joab's men, and the Cherethites and the Pelethites, and all the mighty men; and they went out of Jerusalem, to pursue after Sheba the son of Bichri.

Salieron en pos de él los hombres de Joab, los cereteos y peleteos y todos los valientes; salieron de Jerusalén para perseguir a Seba hijo de Bicri.

8 W hen they were at the great stone which is in Gibeon, Amasa came to meet them. And Joab was girded with his apparel of war that he had put on, and thereon was a girdle with a sword fastened upon his loins in the sheath thereof; and as he went forth it fell out.

Estaban cerca de la piedra grande que hay en Gabaón, cuando les salió Amasa al encuentro. Joab vestía su indumentaria militar, y sobre ella llevaba un cinto con una daga envainada pegada a su costado, la cual se le cayó cuando él avanzó.

9 A nd Joab said to Amasa, Is it well with thee, my brother? And Joab took Amasa by the beard with his right hand to kiss him.

Entonces Joab dijo a Amasa: —¿Te va bien, hermano mío? Tomó Joab con la diestra la barba de Amasa, como para besarlo.

10 B ut Amasa took no heed to the sword that was in Joab's hand: so he smote him therewith in the body, and shed out his bowels to the ground, and struck him not again; and he died. And Joab and Abishai his brother pursued after Sheba the son of Bichri.

Pero Amasa no se cuidó de la daga que Joab tenía en la mano, y éste lo hirió con ella en la quinta costilla, derramando sus entrañas en tierra. Así cayó muerto sin necesidad de darle un segundo golpe. Después Joab y su hermano Abisai fueron en persecución de Seba hijo de Bicri.

11 A nd there stood by him one of Joab's young men, and said, He that favoreth Joab, and he that is for David, let him follow Joab.

Uno de los hombres de Joab se quedó junto a él gritando: —Quienquiera que ame a Joab y a David, ¡que siga a Joab!

12 A nd Amasa lay wallowing in his blood in the midst of the highway. And when the man saw that all the people stood still, he carried Amasa out of the highway into the field, and cast a garment over him, when he saw that every one that came by him stood still.

Amasa, revolcándose en su sangre, yacía en medio del camino. Al verlo, todo el que pasaba se detenía. Y viendo aquel hombre que todo el pueblo se paraba, apartó a Amasa del camino al campo, y echó sobre él una vestidura.

13 W hen he was removed out of the highway, all the people went on after Joab, to pursue after Sheba the son of Bichri.

Luego que fue apartado del camino, pasaron todos los que seguían a Joab, para ir tras Seba hijo de Bicri.

14 A nd he went through all the tribes of Israel unto Abel, and to Beth-maacah, and all the Berites: and they were gathered together, and went also after him.

Seba pasó por todas las tribus de Israel hasta Abel-bet-maaca, y todos los de Barim se reunieron y lo siguieron también.

15 A nd they came and besieged him in Abel of Beth-maacah, and they cast up a mound against the city, and it stood against the rampart; and all the people that were with Joab battered the wall, to throw it down.

Llegaron los otros y lo sitiaron en Abel-bet-maaca. Levantaron contra la ciudad un terraplén y ésta quedó sitiada; y todo el pueblo que estaba con Joab trabajaba por derribar la muralla.

16 T hen cried a wise woman out of the city, Hear, hear; say, I pray you, unto Joab, Come near hither, that I may speak with thee.

Entonces una mujer sabia gritó en la ciudad: —Oíd, oíd; os ruego que digáis a Joab que venga acá, para que yo hable con él.

17 A nd he came near unto her; and the woman said, Art thou Joab? And he answered, I am. Then she said unto him, Hear the words of thy handmaid. And he answered, I do hear.

Cuando él se acercó a ella, dijo la mujer: —¿Eres tú Joab? —Yo soy —respondió él. —Oye las palabras de tu sierva —le dijo ella. —Te escucho —respondió él.

18 T hen she spake, saying, They were wont to speak in old time, saying, They shall surely ask counsel at Abel: and so they ended the matter.

Volvió ella a hablar y dijo: —Antiguamente solían decir: “Quien pregunte, que pregunte a los de Abel.” Y así concluían cualquier asunto.

19 I am of them that are peaceable and faithful in Israel: thou seekest to destroy a city and a mother in Israel: why wilt thou swallow up the inheritance of Jehovah?

Somos de las más pacíficas y fieles ciudades de Israel. ¡Y tú procuras destruir una ciudad que es madre en Israel! ¿Por qué destruyes la heredad de Jehová?

20 A nd Joab answered and said, Far be it, far be it from me, that I should swallow up or destroy.

Joab respondió diciendo: —Nunca, nunca me acontezca tal cosa, que yo destruya ni deshaga.

21 T he matter is not so: but a man of the hill-country of Ephraim, Sheba the son of Bichri by name, hath lifted up his hand against the king, even against David; deliver him only, and I will depart from the city. And the woman said unto Joab, Behold, his head shall be thrown to thee over the wall.

La cosa no es así: sino de un hombre de los montes de Efraín, llamado Seba hijo de Bicri, que ha levantado su mano contra el rey David; entregádmelo a él solo y me iré de la ciudad. —Su cabeza te será arrojada por encima del muro —dijo la mujer a Joab.

22 T hen the woman went unto all the people in her wisdom. And they cut off the head of Sheba the son of Bichri, and threw it out to Joab. And he blew the trumpet, and they were dispersed from the city, every man to his tent. And Joab returned to Jerusalem unto the king.

En seguida la mujer se dirigió a todo el pueblo con tanta sabiduría, que ellos cortaron la cabeza a Seba hijo de Bicri y se la arrojaron a Joab. Tocó él la trompeta y se retiraron de la ciudad, cada uno a su tienda; mientras, Joab regresó a Jerusalén, junto al rey. Oficiales de David

23 N ow Joab was over all the host of Israel; and Benaiah the son of Jehoiada was over the Cherethites and over the Pelethites;

Así quedó Joab al mando de todo el ejército de Israel, Benaía hijo de Joiada al frente de los cereteos y peleteos,

24 a nd Adoram was over the men subject to taskwork; and Jehoshaphat the son of Ahilud was the recorder;

Adoram como jefe de los tributos, y Josafat hijo de Ahilud era el cronista.

25 a nd Sheva was scribe; and Zadok and Abiathar were priests;

Seva era el escriba, y Sadoc y Abiatar, los sacerdotes.

26 a nd also Ira the Jairite was chief minister unto David.

Ira, el jaireo, fue también sacerdote de David.
