1 A nd the Spirit of God came upon Azariah the son of Oded:

Vino el espíritu de Dios sobre Azarías hijo de Obed,

2 a nd he went out to meet Asa, and said unto him, Hear ye me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin: Jehovah is with you, while ye are with him; and if ye seek him, he will be found of you; but if ye forsake him, he will forsake you.

el cual salió al encuentro de Asa y le dijo: «Oídme, Asa, todo Judá y Benjamín: Jehová estará con vosotros si vosotros estáis con él; y si lo buscáis vosotros lo hallaréis; pero si lo dejáis, él también os dejará.

3 N ow for a long season Israel was without the true God, and without a teaching priest, and without law:

Muchos días ha estado Israel sin verdadero Dios y sin sacerdote que enseñara, y sin Ley;

4 B ut when in their distress they turned unto Jehovah, the God of Israel, and sought him, he was found of them.

pero cuando en su tribulación se convirtieron a Jehová, Dios de Israel, y lo buscaron, ellos lo hallaron.

5 A nd in those times there was no peace to him that went out, nor to him that came in; but great vexations were upon all the inhabitants of the lands.

En aquellos tiempos no hubo paz, ni para el que entraba ni para el que salía, sino muchas aflicciones sobre todos los habitantes de las tierras.

6 A nd they were broken in pieces, nation against nation, and city against city; for God did vex them with all adversity.

Una gente destruía a otra, y una ciudad a otra ciudad; porque Dios los turbó con toda clase de calamidades.

7 B ut be ye strong, and let not your hands be slack; for your work shall be rewarded.

Pero esforzaos vosotros, y no desfallezcan vuestras manos, pues hay recompensa para vuestra obra.»

8 A nd when Asa heard these words, and the prophecy of Oded the prophet, he took courage, and put away the abominations out of all the land of Judah and Benjamin, and out of the cities which he had taken from the hill-country of Ephraim; and he renewed the altar of Jehovah, that was before the porch of Jehovah.

Cuando oyó Asa las palabras y la profecía del profeta Azarías hijo de Obed, cobró ánimo y quitó los ídolos abominables de toda la tierra de Judá y de Benjamín, y de las ciudades que él había tomado en la parte montañosa de Efraín; y reparó el altar de Jehová que estaba delante del pórtico de Jehová.

9 A nd he gathered all Judah and Benjamin, and them that sojourned with them out of Ephraim and Manasseh, and out of Simeon: for they fell to him out of Israel in abundance, when they saw that Jehovah his God was with him.

Después reunió a todo Judá y Benjamín, y con ellos los forasteros de Efraín, de Manasés y de Simeón; porque muchos de Israel se habían pasado a él, viendo que Jehová, su Dios, estaba con él.

10 S o they gathered themselves together at Jerusalem in the third month, in the fifteenth year of the reign of Asa.

Se reunieron, pues, en Jerusalén, en el mes tercero del año decimoquinto del reinado de Asa.

11 A nd they sacrificed unto Jehovah in that day, of the spoil which they had brought, seven hundred oxen and seven thousand sheep.

Y en aquel mismo día sacrificaron para Jehová, del botín que habían traído, setecientos bueyes y siete mil ovejas.

12 A nd they entered into the covenant to seek Jehovah, the God of their fathers, with all their heart and with all their soul;

Entonces prometieron solemnemente que buscarían a Jehová, el Dios de sus padres, de todo su corazón y de toda su alma;

13 a nd that whosoever would not seek Jehovah, the God of Israel, should be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman.

y que cualquiera que no buscara a Jehová, el Dios de Israel, que muriera, ya fuera grande o pequeño, hombre o mujer.

14 A nd they sware unto Jehovah with a loud voice, and with shouting, and with trumpets, and with cornets.

Juraron, pues, a Jehová en alta voz y con gritos de júbilo, al son de trompetas y de bocinas.

15 A nd all Judah rejoiced at the oath; for they had sworn with all their heart, and sought him with their whole desire; and he was found of them: and Jehovah gave them rest round about.

Todos los de Judá se alegraron de este juramento; porque de todo su corazón lo juraban, y con toda su voluntad lo buscaban. Por eso Jehová se dejó hallar de ellos y les dio paz por todas partes.

16 A nd also Maacah, the mother of Asa the king, he removed from being queen, because she had made an abominable image for an Asherah; and Asa cut down her image, and made dust of it, and burnt it at the brook Kidron.

Aun a Maaca, su propia madre, el mismo rey Asa la depuso de su dignidad, porque había hecho una imagen de Asera; y Asa destruyó la imagen, la desmenuzó y la quemó junto al torrente Cedrón.

17 B ut the high places were not taken away out of Israel: nevertheless the heart of Asa was perfect all his days.

Con todo esto, los lugares altos no desaparecieron de Israel, aunque el corazón de Asa fue perfecto en todos sus días.

18 A nd he brought into the house of God the things that his father had dedicated, and that he himself had dedicated, silver, and gold, and vessels.

Trajo éste a la casa de Dios lo que su padre había dedicado, y lo que él mismo había consagrado, plata, oro y utensilios.

19 A nd there was no more war unto the five and thirtieth year of the reign of Asa.

Y no hubo más guerra hasta el año treinta y cinco del reinado de Asa.
