1 P aul, an apostle of Christ Jesus through the will of God, and Timothy our brother, unto the church of God which is at Corinth, with all the saints that are in the whole of Achaia:

2 G race to you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.

Gracia y paz a vosotros de Dios nuestro Padre, y del Señor Jesucristo. Aflicciones de Pablo

3 B lessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort;

Bendito sea el Dios y Padre de nuestro Señor Jesucristo, Padre de misericordias y Dios de toda consolación,

4 w ho comforteth us in all our affliction, that we may be able to comfort them that are in any affliction, through the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God.

el cual nos consuela en todas nuestras tribulaciones, para que podamos también nosotros consolar a los que están en cualquier tribulación, por medio de la consolación con que nosotros somos consolados por Dios.

5 F or as the sufferings of Christ abound unto us, even so our comfort also aboundeth through Christ.

Así como abundan en nosotros las aflicciones de Cristo, así abunda también por el mismo Cristo nuestra consolación.

6 B ut whether we are afflicted, it is for your comfort and salvation; or whether we are comforted, it is for your comfort, which worketh in the patient enduring of the same sufferings which we also suffer:

Pero si somos atribulados es para vuestra consolación y salvación; o si somos consolados es para vuestra consolación y salvación, la cual se realiza en el sufrir las mismas aflicciones que nosotros también padecemos.

7 a nd our hope for you is stedfast; knowing that, as ye are partakers of the sufferings, so also are ye of the comfort.

Y nuestra esperanza respecto de vosotros es firme, pues sabemos que así como sois compañeros en las aflicciones, también lo sois en la consolación.

8 F or we would not have you ignorant, brethren, concerning our affliction which befell us in Asia, that we were weighed down exceedingly, beyond our power, insomuch that we despaired even of life:

Hermanos, no queremos que ignoréis acerca de la tribulación que nos sobrevino en Asia, pues fuimos abrumados en gran manera más allá de nuestras fuerzas, de tal modo que aun perdimos la esperanza de conservar la vida.

9 y ea, we ourselves have had the sentence of death within ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God who raiseth the dead:

Pero tuvimos en nosotros mismos sentencia de muerte, para que no confiáramos en nosotros mismos, sino en Dios que resucita a los muertos.

10 w ho delivered us out of so great a death, and will deliver: on whom we have set our hope that he will also still deliver us;

Él nos libró y nos libra y esperamos que aun nos librará de tan grave peligro de muerte.

11 y e also helping together on our behalf by your supplication; that, for the gift bestowed upon us by means of many, thanks may be given by many persons on our behalf.

Para ello contamos con vuestras oraciones a nuestro favor; y así, siendo muchos los que interceden por nosotros, también serán muchos los que darán gracias por el don concedido a nosotros. Por qué Pablo postergó su visita a Corinto

12 F or our glorifying is this, the testimony of our conscience, that in holiness and sincerity of God, not in fleshly wisdom but in the grace of God, we behaved ourselves in the world, and more abundantly to you-ward.

Nuestro motivo de orgullo es éste: el testimonio de nuestra conciencia, de que con sencillez y sinceridad de Dios (no con sabiduría humana, sino con la gracia de Dios), nos hemos conducido en el mundo, y mucho más con vosotros.

13 F or we write no other things unto you, than what ye read or even acknowledge, and I hope ye will acknowledge unto the end:

No os escribimos otras cosas de las que leéis o también entendéis; y espero que hasta el fin las entenderéis;

14 a s also ye did acknowledge us in part, that we are your glorying, even as ye also are ours, in the day of our Lord Jesus.

como también en parte habéis entendido que somos vuestro motivo de orgullo, así como también vosotros lo seréis para nosotros en el día del Señor Jesús.

15 A nd in this confidence I was minded to come first unto you, that ye might have a second benefit;

Con esta confianza quise ir primero a vosotros para daros una doble alegría:

16 a nd by you to pass into Macedonia, and again from Macedonia to come unto you, and of you to be set forward on my journey unto Judaea.

de ahí pasar a Macedonia y desde Macedonia regresar a vosotros para ser encaminado por vosotros a Judea.

17 W hen I therefore was thus minded, did I show fickleness? or the things that I purpose, do I purpose according to the flesh, that with me there should be the yea yea and the nay nay?

Así que, al proponerme esto, ¿actué precipitadamente? O lo que pienso hacer, ¿lo pienso según la carne, para que haya en mí «sí» y «no»?

18 B ut as God is faithful, our word toward you is not yea and nay.

Pero como Dios es fiel, nuestra palabra a vosotros no es «sí» y «no»,

19 F or the Son of God, Jesus Christ, who was preached among you by us, even by me and Silvanus and Timothy, was not yea and nay, but in him is yea.

porque el Hijo de Dios, Jesucristo, que entre vosotros ha sido predicado por nosotros —por mí, Silvano y Timoteo—, no ha sido «sí» y «no», sino solamente «sí» en él,

20 F or how many soever be the promises of God, in him is the yea: wherefore also through him is the Amen, unto the glory of God through us.

porque todas las promesas de Dios son en él «sí», y en él «Amén», por medio de nosotros, para la gloria de Dios.

21 N ow he that establisheth us with you in Christ, and anointed us, is God;

Y el que nos confirma con vosotros en Cristo, y el que nos ungió, es Dios,

22 w ho also sealed us, and gave us the earnest of the Spirit in our hearts.

el cual también nos ha sellado y nos ha dado, como garantía, el Espíritu en nuestros corazones.

23 B ut I call God for a witness upon my soul, that to spare you I forbare to come unto Corinth.

Invoco a Dios por testigo sobre mi alma, que por ser indulgente con vosotros no he pasado todavía a Corinto.

24 N ot that we have lordship over your faith, but are helpers of your joy: for in faith ye stand fast.

No que nos enseñoreemos de vuestra fe, sino que colaboramos para vuestro gozo porque por la fe estáis firmes.
