1 M y son, forget not my law; But let thy heart keep my commandments:

»Hijo mío, no te olvides de mi Ley, y que tu corazón guarde mis mandamientos,

2 F or length of days, and years of life, And peace, will they add to thee.

porque muchos días y años de vida y de paz te aumentarán.

3 L et not kindness and truth forsake thee: Bind them about thy neck; Write them upon the tablet of thy heart:

Nunca se aparten de ti la misericordia y la verdad: átalas a tu cuello, escríbelas en la tabla de tu corazón

4 S o shalt thou find favor and good understanding In the sight of God and man.

y hallarás gracia y buena opinión ante los ojos de Dios y de los hombres.

5 T rust in Jehovah with all thy heart, And lean not upon thine own understanding:

»Confía en Jehová con todo tu corazón y no te apoyes en tu propia prudencia.

6 I n all thy ways acknowledge him, And he will direct thy paths.

Reconócelo en todos tus caminos y él hará derechas tus veredas.

7 B e not wise in thine own eyes; Fear Jehovah, and depart from evil:

No seas sabio en tu propia opinión, sino teme a Jehová y apártate del mal,

8 I t will be health to thy navel, And marrow to thy bones.

porque esto será medicina para tus músculos y refrigerio para tus huesos.

9 H onor Jehovah with thy substance, And with the first-fruits of all thine increase:

»Honra a Jehová con tus bienes y con las primicias de todos tus frutos;

10 S o shall thy barns be filled with plenty, And thy vats shall overflow with new wine.

entonces tus graneros estarán colmados con abundancia y tus lagares rebosarán de mosto.

11 M y son, despise not the chastening of Jehovah; Neither be weary of his reproof:

»No menosprecies, hijo mío, el castigo de Jehová, no te canses de que él te corrija,

12 F or whom Jehovah loveth he reproveth; Even as a father the son in whom he delighteth.

porque Jehová al que ama castiga, como el padre al hijo a quien quiere.

13 H appy is the man that findeth wisdom, And the man that getteth understanding.

»¡Bienaventurado el hombre que halla la sabiduría y obtiene la inteligencia,

14 F or the gaining of it is better than the gaining of silver, And the profit thereof than fine gold.

porque su ganancia es más que la ganancia de la plata, sus beneficios más que los del oro fino!

15 S he is more precious than rubies: And none of the things thou canst desire are to be compared unto her.

Más preciosa es que las piedras preciosas: ¡nada que puedas desear se puede comparar con ella!

16 L ength of days is in her right hand; In her left hand are riches and honor.

Larga vida hay en su mano derecha, y en su izquierda, riquezas y honra.

17 H er ways are ways of pleasantness, And all her paths are peace.

Sus caminos son caminos deleitosos; todas sus veredas, paz.

18 S he is a tree of life to them that lay hold upon her: And happy is every one that retaineth her.

Es árbol de vida para los que de ella echan mano, y bienaventurados son los que la retienen.

19 J ehovah by wisdom founded the earth; By understanding he established the heavens.

»Jehová fundó la tierra con sabiduría, afirmó los cielos con inteligencia.

20 B y his knowledge the depths were broken up, And the skies drop down the dew.

Con su ciencia, los mares fueron divididos y destilan rocío los cielos.

21 M y son, let them not depart from thine eyes; Keep sound wisdom and discretion:

»Hijo mío, no se aparten de tus ojos estas cosas: guarda la Ley y el consejo,

22 S o shall they be life unto thy soul, And grace to thy neck.

que serán vida para tu alma y gracia para tu cuello.

23 T hen shalt thou walk in thy way securely, And thy foot shall not stumble.

Entonces andarás por tu camino confiadamente y tu pie no tropezará.

24 W hen thou liest down, thou shalt not be afraid: Yea, thou shalt lie down, and thy sleep shall be sweet.

Cuando te acuestes, no tendrás temor, sino que te acostarás y tu sueño será grato.

25 B e not afraid of sudden fear, Neither of the desolation of the wicked, when it cometh:

No tendrás temor de un pavor repentino ni de la ruina de los impíos, cuando llegue,

26 F or Jehovah will be thy confidence, And will keep thy foot from being taken.

porque Jehová será tu confianza: él evitará que tu pie quede atrapado.

27 W ithhold not good from them to whom it is due, When it is in the power of thy hand to do it.

»Si tienes poder para hacer el bien, no te rehúses a hacérselo a quien lo necesite;

28 S ay not unto thy neighbor, Go, and come again, And to-morrow I will give; When thou hast it by thee.

no digas a tu prójimo: “Vete, vuelve de nuevo, mañana te daré”, cuando tengas contigo qué darle.

29 D evise not evil against thy neighbor, Seeing he dwelleth securely by thee.

No intentes hacer daño a tu prójimo que vive confiado junto a ti.

30 S trive not with a man without cause, If he have done thee no harm.

No pleitees sin razón con nadie, a no ser que te hayan agraviado.

31 E nvy thou not the man of violence, And choose none of his ways.

No envidies al hombre injusto ni escojas ninguno de sus caminos.

32 F or the perverse is an abomination to Jehovah; But his friendship is with the upright.

Porque Jehová abomina al perverso; su comunión íntima es con los justos.

33 T he curse of Jehovah is in the house of the wicked; But he blesseth the habitation of the righteous.

La maldición de Jehová está en la casa del malvado, pero bendice la morada de los justos.

34 S urely he scoffeth at the scoffers; But he giveth grace unto the lowly.

Ciertamente él escarnece a los escarnecedores y da gracia a los humildes.

35 T he wise shall inherit glory; But shame shall be the promotion of fools.

Los sabios heredan la honra, pero los necios cargan con su ignominia.
