1 A nd it came to pass, when David dwelt in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet, Lo, I dwell in a house of cedar, but the ark of the covenant of Jehovah dwelleth under curtains.

Viviendo ya David en su casa, dijo al profeta Natán: —Mira, yo habito en casa de cedro, mientras el Arca del pacto de Jehová está bajo cortinas.

2 A nd Nathan said unto David, Do all that is in thy heart; for God is with thee.

Y Natán dijo a David: —Haz todo lo que está en tu corazón, porque Dios está contigo.

3 A nd it came to pass the same night, that the word of God came to Nathan, saying,

Pero aquella misma noche vino palabra de Dios a Natán, diciendo:

4 G o and tell David my servant, Thus saith Jehovah, Thou shalt not build me a house to dwell in:

«Ve y di a David mi siervo: “Así ha dicho Jehová: Tú no me edificarás casa para que yo habite.

5 f or I have not dwelt in a house since the day that I brought up Israel, unto this day, but have gone from tent to tent, and from one tabernacle to another.

Pues no he habitado en casa alguna desde el día en que saqué a los hijos de Israel hasta el día de hoy; antes estuve de tienda en tienda, y de tabernáculo en tabernáculo.

6 I n all places wherein I have walked with all Israel, spake I a word with any of the judges of Israel, whom I commanded to be shepherd of my people, saying, Why have ye not built me a house of cedar?

Por dondequiera que anduve con todo Israel, nunca dije a ninguno de los jueces de Israel, a los cuales mandé que apacentaran a mi pueblo: ‘¿Por qué no me edificáis una casa de cedro?’”

7 N ow therefore thus shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith Jehovah of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, that thou shouldest be prince over my people Israel:

Por tanto, ahora dirás a mi siervo David: “Así ha dicho Jehová de los ejércitos: Yo te tomé del redil, de detrás de las ovejas, para que fueras príncipe sobre mi pueblo Israel.

8 a nd I have been with thee whithersoever thou hast gone, and have cut off all thine enemies from before thee; and I will make thee a name, like unto the name of the great ones that are in the earth.

He estado contigo en todo cuanto has andado, he cortado a todos tus enemigos de delante de ti, y te haré un nombre grande, como el nombre de los grandes de la tierra.

9 A nd I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in their own place, and be moved no more; neither shall the children of wickedness waste them any more, as at the first,

Asimismo he dispuesto lugar para mi pueblo Israel, y lo he plantado para que habite en él y no sea más removido; ni los malhechores lo sigan oprimiendo, como antes,

10 a nd as from the day that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel; and I will subdue all thine enemies. Moreover I tell thee that Jehovah will build thee a house.

como en el tiempo cuando puse jueces sobre mi pueblo Israel; sino que humillaré a todos tus enemigos. Te hago saber, además, que Jehová te edificará casa.

11 A nd it shall come to pass, when thy days are fulfilled that thou must go to be with thy fathers, that I will set up thy seed after thee, who shall be of thy sons; and I will establish his kingdom.

Cuando se cumplan los días para que vayas con tus padres, levantaré descendencia después de ti, a uno de entre tus hijos, y afirmaré su reino.

12 H e shall build me a house, and I will establish his throne for ever.

Él me edificará Casa, y yo confirmaré su trono eternamente.

13 I will be his father, and he shall be my son: and I will not take my lovingkindness away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee;

Seré para él como padre, y él será para mí un hijo; no apartaré de él mi misericordia, como hice con aquel que fue antes de ti;

14 b ut I will settle him in my house and in my kingdom for ever; and his throne shall be established for ever.

sino que lo confirmaré en mi Casa y en mi reino eternamente, y su trono será firme para siempre.”»

15 A ccording to all these words, and according to all this vision, so did Nathan speak unto David.

Conforme a todas estas palabras, y conforme a toda esta visión, habló Natán a David.

16 T hen David the king went in, and sat before Jehovah; and he said, Who am I, O Jehovah God, and what is my house, that thou hast brought me thus far?

Entonces entró el rey David y estuvo delante de Jehová, y dijo: «Jehová Dios, ¿quién soy yo, y qué es mi casa, para que me hayas traído hasta este lugar?

17 A nd this was a small thing in thine eyes, O God; but thou hast spoken of thy servant's house for a great while to come, and hast regarded me according to the estate of a man of high degree, O Jehovah God.

Y aun esto, Dios, te ha parecido poco, pues has hablado del porvenir de la casa de tu siervo, y me has mirado como a un hombre excelente, Jehová Dios.

18 W hat can David say yet more unto thee concerning the honor which is done to thy servant? for thou knowest thy servant.

¿Qué más puede decir David del honor que has dado a tu siervo, si tú conoces a tu siervo?

19 O Jehovah, for thy servant's sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou wrought all this greatness, to make known all these great things.

Jehová, por amor de tu siervo y según tu corazón, has hecho toda esta gran obra, haciendo notorias todas tus grandezas.

20 O Jehovah, there is none like thee, neither is there any God besides thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.

Jehová, no hay nadie semejante a ti, ni hay Dios fuera de ti, según todas las cosas que hemos oído con nuestros oídos.

21 A nd what one nation in the earth is like thy people Israel, whom God went to redeem unto himself for a people, to make thee a name by great and terrible things, in driving out nations from before thy people, whom thou redeemest out of Egypt?

¿Y qué pueblo hay en la tierra como tu pueblo Israel, al cual su Dios fue a rescatar, a fin de engrandecer su nombre por medio de prodigios y maravillas, arrojando a las naciones de delante de tu pueblo, al que tú rescataste de Egipto?

22 F or thy people Israel didst thou make thine own people for ever; and thou, Jehovah, becamest their God.

Tú has constituido a tu pueblo Israel por pueblo tuyo para siempre; y tú, Jehová, has venido a ser su Dios.

23 A nd now, O Jehovah, let the word that thou hast spoken concerning thy servant, and concerning his house, be established for ever, and do as thou hast spoken.

»Ahora pues, Jehová, la palabra que has hablado acerca de tu siervo y de su casa, sea firme para siempre, y haz como has dicho.

24 A nd let thy name be established and magnified for ever, saying, Jehovah of hosts is the God of Israel, even a God to Israel: and the house of David thy servant is established before thee.

Permanezca, pues, y sea engrandecido tu nombre para siempre, a fin de que se diga: “Jehová de los ejércitos, Dios de Israel, es Dios para Israel.” Y se mantenga la casa de tu siervo David firme en tu presencia.

25 F or thou, O my God, hast revealed to thy servant that thou wilt build him a house: therefore hath thy servant found in his heart to pray before thee.

Porque tú, Dios mío, revelaste al oído de tu siervo que le has de edificar casa; por eso ha hallado tu siervo motivo para orar delante de ti.

26 A nd now, O Jehovah, thou art God, and hast promised this good thing unto thy servant:

Ahora pues, Jehová, tú eres el Dios, y has prometido a tu siervo este bien;

27 a nd now it hath pleased thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may continue for ever before thee: for thou, O Jehovah, hast blessed, and it is blessed for ever.

y ahora has querido bendecir la casa de tu siervo, para que permanezca perpetuamente delante de ti; porque tú, Jehová, la has bendecido, y bendita será para siempre.»
