1 D avid therefore departed thence, and escaped to the cave of Adullam: and when his brethren and all his father's house heard it, they went down thither to him.

Partió David de allí y se refugió en la cueva de Adulam; cuando sus hermanos y toda la casa de su padre lo supieron, fueron allí a reunirse con él.

2 A nd every one that was in distress, and every one that was in debt, and every one that was discontented, gathered themselves unto him; and he became captain over them: and there were with him about four hundred men.

Además se le unieron todos los afligidos, todos los que estaban endeudados y todos los que se hallaban en amargura de espíritu, y llegó a ser su jefe. Había con él como cuatrocientos hombres.

3 A nd David went thence to Mizpeh of Moab: and he said unto the king of Moab, Let my father and my mother, I pray thee, come forth, and be with you, till I know what God will do for me.

De allí se fue David a Mizpa de Moab, y dijo al rey de Moab: «Te ruego que mi padre y mi madre se queden con vosotros, hasta que sepa lo que Dios hará de mí.»

4 A nd he brought them before the king of Moab: and they dwelt with him all the while that David was in the stronghold.

Los trajo, pues, a la presencia del rey de Moab, y habitaron con él todo el tiempo que David estuvo en el lugar fuerte.

5 A nd the prophet Gad said unto David, Abide not in the stronghold; depart, and get thee into the land of Judah. Then David departed, and came into the forest of Hereth.

Pero el profeta Gad dijo a David: «No te quedes en este lugar fuerte; anda y vete a tierra de Judá.» Entonces partió David y entró en el bosque de Haret. Asesinato de los sacerdotes de Nob

6 A nd Saul heard that David was discovered, and the men that were with him: now Saul was sitting in Gibeah, under the tamarisk-tree in Ramah, with his spear in his hand, and all his servants were standing about him.

Oyó Saúl que David y los que estaban con él habían sido vistos. Estaba Saúl sentado en Gabaa, debajo de un tamarisco, sobre un alto, con la lanza en su mano, y rodeado de todos sus siervos.

7 A nd Saul said unto his servants that stood about him, Hear now, ye Benjamites; will the son of Jesse give every one of you fields and vineyards, will he make you all captains of thousands and captains of hundreds,

Y dijo Saúl a los siervos que estaban alrededor de él: —Oíd ahora, hijos de Benjamín: ¿Os dará también a todos vosotros el hijo de Isaí tierras y viñas, y os hará a todos vosotros jefes de millares y jefes de centenas,

8 t hat all of you have conspired against me, and there is none that discloseth to me when my son maketh a league with the son of Jesse, and there is none of you that is sorry for me, or discloseth unto me that my son hath stirred up my servant against me, to lie in wait, as at this day?

para que todos vosotros hayáis conspirado contra mí? ¿No ha habido quien me informara de cómo mi hijo ha hecho alianza con el hijo de Isaí, ni hay ninguno de vosotros que se conduela de mí y me dé a conocer cómo mi hijo ha sublevado contra mí a un siervo mío para que me aceche, tal como lo hace hoy?

9 T hen answered Doeg the Edomite, who stood by the servants of Saul, and said, I saw the son of Jesse coming to Nob, to Ahimelech the son of Ahitub.

Entonces Doeg, el edomita, que era el principal de los siervos de Saúl, respondió: —Yo vi al hijo de Isaí venir a Nob, adonde estaba Ahimelec hijo de Ahitob.

10 A nd he inquired of Jehovah for him, and gave him victuals, and gave him the sword of Goliath the Philistine.

Éste consultó a Jehová por él, le dio provisiones y también la espada de Goliat, el filisteo.

11 T hen the king sent to call Ahimelech the priest, the son of Ahitub, and all his father's house, the priests that were in Nob: and they came all of them to the king.

Mandó el rey a llamar al sacerdote Ahimelec hijo de Ahitob, y a toda la casa de su padre, los sacerdotes que estaban en Nob, y todos vinieron ante el rey.

12 A nd Saul said, Hear now, thou son of Ahitub. And he answered, Here I am, my lord.

Y Saúl dijo: —Oye ahora, hijo de Ahitob. —Heme aquí, señor mío —respondió él.

13 A nd Saul said unto him, Why have ye conspired against me, thou and the son of Jesse, in that thou hast given him bread, and a sword, and hast inquired of God for him, that he should rise against me, to lie in wait, as at this day?

Saúl añadió: —¿Por qué habéis conspirado contra mí, tú y el hijo de Isaí? Le diste pan y una espada, y consultaste a Dios por él, para que se subleve contra mí y me aceche, como lo hace en el día de hoy.

14 T hen Ahimelech answered the king, and said, And who among all thy servants is so faithful as David, who is the king's son-in-law, and is taken into thy council, and is honorable in thy house?

Ahimelec respondió al rey: —¿Y quién entre todos tus siervos es tan fiel como David, que además es yerno del rey, sirve a tus órdenes y todos lo honran en tu propia casa?

15 H ave I to-day begun to inquire of God for him? be it far from me: let not the king impute anything unto his servant, nor to all the house of my father; for thy servant knoweth nothing of all this, less or more.

¿Acaso he comenzado hoy a consultar a Dios por él? ¡No, lejos de mí! Que el rey no culpe de cosa alguna a su siervo, ni a toda la casa de mi padre; porque tu siervo ninguna cosa, grande ni pequeña, sabe de este asunto.

16 A nd the king said, Thou shalt surely die, Ahimelech, thou, and all thy father's house.

Pero el rey respondió: —Sin duda morirás, Ahimelec, tú y toda la casa de tu padre.

17 A nd the king said unto the guard that stood about him, Turn, and slay the priests of Jehovah; because their hand also is with David, and because they knew that he fled, and did not disclose it to me. But the servants of the king would not put forth their hand to fall upon the priests of Jehovah.

Luego dijo el rey a la gente de su guardia que estaba a su lado: —Volveos y matad a los sacerdotes de Jehová; porque también la mano de ellos está con David, pues sabiendo ellos que huía, no me lo hicieron saber. Pero los siervos del rey no quisieron extender sus manos para matar a los sacerdotes de Jehová.

18 A nd the king said to Doeg, Turn thou, and fall upon the priests. And Doeg the Edomite turned, and he fell upon the priests, and he slew on that day fourscore and five persons that did wear a linen ephod.

Entonces dijo el rey a Doeg: —Vuélvete y arremete contra los sacerdotes. Y se volvió Doeg, el edomita, atacó a los sacerdotes y mató en aquel día a ochenta y cinco hombres que vestían efod de lino.

19 A nd Nob, the city of the priests, smote he with the edge of the sword, both men and women, children and sucklings, and oxen and asses and sheep, with the edge of the sword.

Y a Nob, ciudad de los sacerdotes, la pasó Saúl a filo de espada: a hombres, mujeres y niños, hasta los de pecho, y bueyes, asnos y ovejas, todo lo hirió a filo de espada.

20 A nd one of the sons of Ahimelech, the son of Ahitub, named Abiathar, escaped, and fled after David.

Pero uno de los hijos de Ahimelec hijo de Ahitob, que se llamaba Abiatar, pudo escapar, y huyó tras David.

21 A nd Abiathar told David that Saul had slain Jehovah's priests.

Abiatar dio aviso a David de cómo Saúl había dado muerte a los sacerdotes de Jehová.

22 A nd David said unto Abiathar, I knew on that day, when Doeg the Edomite was there, that he would surely tell Saul: I have occasioned the death of all the persons of thy father's house.

Y David le dijo: —Ya sabía yo aquel día que estando allí Doeg, el edomita, él se lo haría saber a Saúl. He ocasionado la muerte a todas las personas de la casa de tu padre.

23 A bide thou with me, fear not; for he that seeketh my life seeketh thy life: for with me thou shalt be in safeguard.

Quédate conmigo, no temas; quien busque mi vida, buscará también la tuya; pero conmigo estarás a salvo.
