1 A nd certain men came down from Judaea and taught the brethren, saying, Except ye be circumcised after the custom of Moses, ye cannot be saved.

Or alcuni, discesi dalla Giudea, insegnavano ai fratelli, dicendo: «Se non siete circoncisi secondo il rito di Mosé, non potete essere salvati».

2 A nd when Paul and Barnabas had no small dissension and questioning with them, the brethren appointed that Paul and Barnabas, and certain other of them, should go up to Jerusalem unto the apostles and elders about this question.

Essendo perciò sorta una non piccola controversia e discussione da parte di Paolo e Barnaba con costoro fu ordinato che Paolo e Barnaba e alcuni altri di loro salissero a Gerusalemme dagli apostoli e anziani per tale questione.

3 T hey therefore, being brought on their way by the church, passed through both Phoenicia and Samaria, declaring the conversion of the Gentiles: and they caused great joy unto all the brethren.

Essi dunque, scortati per un tratto dalla chiesa, attraversarono la Fenicia e la Samaria, raccontando la conversione dei gentili e arrecando grande gioia a tutti i fratelli.

4 A nd when they were come to Jerusalem, they were received of the church and the apostles and the elders, and they rehearsed all things that God had done with them.

Giunti a Gerusalemme, furono accolti dalla chiesa, dagli apostoli e dagli anziani e riferirono le grandi cose che Dio aveva operato per mezzo di loro.

5 B ut there rose up certain of the sect of the Pharisees who believed, saying, It is needful to circumcise them, and to charge them to keep the law of Moses.

Ma alcuni della setta dei farisei che avevano creduto si alzarono, dicendo: «Bisogna circoncidere i gentili e comandar loro di osservare la legge di Mosé».

6 A nd the apostles and the elders were gathered together to consider of this matter.

Allora gli apostoli e gli anziani si radunarono per esaminare questo problema.

7 A nd when there had been much questioning, Peter rose up, and said unto them, Brethren, ye know that a good while ago God made choice among you, that by my mouth the Gentiles should hear the word of the gospel, and believe.

Ed essendo sorta una grande disputa, Pietro si alzò in piedi e disse loro: «Fratelli, voi sapete che già dai primi tempi Dio tra noi scelse me, affinché per la mia bocca i gentili udissero la parola dell'evangelo e credessero.

8 A nd God, who knoweth the heart, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Spirit, even as he did unto us;

Dio, che conosce i cuori, ha reso loro testimonianza, dando loro lo Spirito Santo, proprio come a noi;

9 a nd he made no distinction between us and them, cleansing their hearts by faith.

e non ha fatto alcuna differenza tra noi e loro, avendo purificato i loro cuori mediante la fede.

10 N ow therefore why make ye trial of God, that ye should put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear?

Ora dunque perché tentate Dio, mettendo sul collo dei discepoli un giogo che né i nostri padri né noi abbiamo potuto portare?

11 B ut we believe that we shall be saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, in like manner as they.

Ma noi crediamo di essere salvati mediante la grazia del Signor Gesú Cristo, e nello stesso modo anche loro».

12 A nd all the multitude kept silence; and they hearkened unto Barnabas and Paul rehearsing what signs and wonders God had wrought among the Gentiles through them.

Allora tutta la folla tacque, e stavano ad ascoltare Barnaba e Paolo, che raccontavano quali segni e prodigi Dio aveva operato per mezzo loro fra i gentili.

13 A nd after they had held their peace, James answered, saying, Brethren, hearken unto me:

Quando essi tacquero, Giacomo prese la parola e disse: «Fratelli, ascoltatemi.

14 S ymeon hath rehearsed how first God visited the Gentiles, to take out of them a people for his name.

Simone ha raccontato come per la prima volta Dio ha visitato i gentili per scegliersi da quelli un popolo per il suo nome.

15 A nd to this agree the words of the prophets; as it is written,

Con questo si accordano le parole dei profeti, come è scritto:

16 A fter these things I will return, And I will build again the tabernacle of David, which is fallen; And I will build again the ruins thereof, And I will set it up:

"Dopo queste cose, io ritornerò e riedificherò il tabernacolo, di Davide che è caduto, restaurerò le sue rovine e lo rimetterò in piedi,

17 T hat the residue of men may seek after the Lord, And all the Gentiles, upon whom my name is called,

affinché il resto degli uomini e tutte le genti su cui è invocato il mio nome cerchino il Signore, dice il Signore che fa tutte queste cose".

18 S aith the Lord, who maketh these things known from of old.

A Dio sono note da sempre tutte le opere sue.

19 W herefore my judgment is, that we trouble not them that from among the Gentiles turn to God;

Perciò io ritengo che non si dia molestia a quelli che tra i gentili si convertono a Dio,

20 b ut that we write unto them, that they abstain from the pollutions of idols, and from fornication, and from what is strangled, and from blood.

ma che si scriva loro di astenersi dalle contaminazioni degli idoli, dalla fornicazione, dalle cose soffocate e dal sangue

21 F or Moses from generations of old hath in every city them that preach him, being read in the synagogues every sabbath.

Poiché Mosé già dai tempi antichi ha delle persone che lo predicano per ogni città essendo letto ogni sabato nelle sinagoghe».

22 T hen it seemed good to the apostles and the elders, with the whole church, to choose men out of their company, and send them to Antioch with Paul and Barnabas; namely, Judas called Barsabbas, and Silas, chief men among the brethren:

Allora parve bene agli apostoli e agli anziani con tutta la chiesa di mandare ad Antiochia, con Paolo e Barnaba, degli uomini scelti da loro: Giuda, soprannominato Barsabba, e Sila, uomini autorevoli tra i fratelli,

23 a nd they wrote thus by them, The apostles and the elders, brethren, unto the brethren who are of the Gentiles in Antioch and Syria and Cilicia, greeting:

con una lettera scritta di loro mano che diceva: «Gli apostoli, gli anziani e i fratelli, ai fratelli fra i gentili che sono in Antiochia Siria e Cilicia, salute.

24 F orasmuch as we have heard that certain who went out from us have troubled you with words, subverting your souls; to whom we gave no commandment;

Siccome abbiamo inteso che alcuni provenienti da noi, ma ai quali non avevamo dato alcun mandato, vi hanno turbato con parole sconvolgendo le anime vostre, dicendo che bisogna che siate circoncisi e osserviate la legge,

25 i t seemed good unto us, having come to one accord, to choose out men and send them unto you with our beloved Barnabas and Paul,

è parso bene a noi, riuniti di comune accordo, di scegliere alcuni uomini e di mandarli assieme ai nostri cari Barnaba e Paolo,

26 m en that have hazarded their lives for the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

uomini che hanno rischiato la loro vita per il nome del Signor nostro Gesú Cristo.

27 W e have sent therefore Judas and Silas, who themselves also shall tell you the same things by word of mouth.

Abbiamo dunque mandato Giuda, e Sila; anch'essi a voce riferiranno le medesime cose.

28 F or it seemed good to the Holy Spirit, and to us, to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things:

Infatti è parso bene allo Spirito Santo e a noi di non imporvi alcun altro peso all'infuori di queste cose necessarie:

29 t hat ye abstain from things sacrificed to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication; from which if ye keep yourselves, it shall be well with you. Fare ye well.

che vi asteniate dalle cose sacrificate agli idoli, dal sangue, dalle cose soffocate e dalla fornicazione, farete bene a guardarvi da queste cose. State bene».

30 S o they, when they were dismissed, came down to Antioch; and having gathered the multitude together, they delivered the epistle.

Essi dunque, congedatisi, discesero ad Antiochia e, riunita l'assemblea, consegnarono la lettera.

31 A nd when they had read it, they rejoiced for the consolation.

E, dopo averla letta, quelli di Antiochia si rallegrarono della consolazione

32 A nd Judas and Silas, being themselves also prophets, exhorted the brethren with many words, and confirmed them.

Or Giuda e Sila, essendo anch'essi profeti, con molte parole esortarono i fratelli e li confermarono.

33 A nd after they had spent some time there, they were dismissed in peace from the brethren unto those that had sent them forth.

Dopo essersi trattenuti là diverso tempo, furono dai fratelli rimandati in pace dagli apostoli.

34 B ut it seemed good unto Silas to abide there.

Ma parve bene a Sila di restare là.

35 B ut Paul and Barnabas tarried in Antioch, teaching and preaching the word of the Lord, with many others also.

Anche Paolo e Barnaba rimasero ad Antiochia, insegnando ed annunziando con molti altri la parola del Signore.

36 A nd after some days Paul said unto Barnabas, Let us return now and visit the brethren in every city wherein we proclaimed the word of the Lord, and see how they fare.

Alcuni giorni dopo, Paolo disse a Barnaba: «Torniamo ora a visitare i nostri fratelli in ogni città dove abbiamo annunziato la parola del Signore, per vedere come stanno».

37 A nd Barnabas was minded to take with them John also, who was called Mark.

Or Barnaba intendeva prendere con loro Giovanni, detto Marco.

38 B ut Paul thought not good to take with them him who withdrew from them from Pamphylia, and went not with them to the work.

Ma Paolo riteneva che non si dovesse prendere con loro colui che si era separato da loro in Panfilia, e non era andato con loro all'opera.

39 A nd there arose a sharp contention, so that they parted asunder one from the other, and Barnabas took Mark with him, and sailed away unto Cyprus;

Ne nacque allora una tale disputa che si separarono l'uno dall'altro, poi Barnaba, preso Marco, s'imbarcò per Cipro.

40 b ut Paul choose Silas, and went forth, being commended by the brethren to the grace of the Lord.

Paolo invece, sceltosi per compagno Sila, partí, raccomandato dai fratelli alla grazia di Dio.

41 A nd he went through Syria and Cilicia, confirming the churches.

E attraversò la Siria e la Cilicia, confermando le chiese.
