1 L et me sing for my wellbeloved a song of my beloved touching his vineyard. My wellbeloved had a vineyard in a very fruitful hill:

Voglio cantare per il mio diletto un cantico del mio amico circa la sua vigna. Il mio diletto aveva una vigna su una collina molto fertile.

2 a nd he digged it, and gathered out the stones thereof, and planted it with the choicest vine, and built a tower in the midst of it, and also hewed out a winepress therein: and he looked that it should bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes.

La circondò con una siepe, ne tolse via le pietre, vi piantò viti di ottima qualità, vi costruí in mezzo una torre e vi scavò un torchio. Egli si aspettava che producesse uva buona, invece fece uva selvatica.

3 A nd now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem and men of Judah, judge, I pray you, betwixt me and my vineyard.

Or dunque, o abitanti di Gerusalemme e uomini di Giuda, giudicate fra me e la mia vigna.

4 W hat could have been done more to my vineyard, that I have not done in it? wherefore, when I looked that it should bring forth grapes, brought it forth wild grapes?

Che cosa si sarebbe potuto ancora fare alla mia vigna che io non vi abbia già fatto? Perché, mentre io mi aspettavo che producesse uva buona, essa ha fatto uva selvatica?

5 A nd now I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard: I will take away the hedge thereof, and it shall be eaten up; I will break down the wall thereof, and it shall be trodden down:

Ma ora vi farò sapere ciò che sto per fare alla mia vigna: rimuoverò la sua siepe e sarà interamente divorata, abbatterò il suo muro e sarà calpestata.

6 a nd I will lay it waste; it shall not be pruned nor hoed; but there shall come up briers and thorns: I will also command the clouds that they rain no rain upon it.

La ridurrò a un deserto: non sarà né potata né zappata, ma vi cresceranno rovi e spine; e comanderò alle nubi di non farvi cadere alcuna pioggia.

7 F or the vineyard of Jehovah of hosts is the house of Israel, and the men of Judah his pleasant plant: and he looked for justice, but, behold, oppression; for righteousness, but, behold, a cry.

Or la vigna dell'Eterno degli eserciti è la casa d'Israele, e gli uomini di Giuda sono la piantagione della sua delizia. Egli si aspettava rettitudine ed ecco spargimento di sangue, giustizia ed ecco grida di angoscia.

8 W oe unto them that join house to house, that lay field to field, till there be no room, and ye be made to dwell alone in the midst of the land!

Guai a quelli che aggiungono casa a casa, che uniscono campo a campo, finché non vi sia piú spazio, e cosi rimaniate soli ad abitare in mezzo al paese.

9 I n mine ears saith Jehovah of hosts, Of a truth many houses shall be desolate, even great and fair, without inhabitant.

Alle mie orecchie l'Eterno degli eserciti ha giurato: «In verità molte case diventeranno una desolazione, grandi e belle case rimarranno senza abitanti».

10 F or ten acres of vineyard shall yield one bath, and a homer of seed shall yield but an ephah.

Poiché dieci iugeri di vigna produrranno solo un bato, e un homer di seme produrrà solo un'efa.

11 W oe unto them that rise up early in the morning, that they may follow strong drink; that tarry late into the night, till wine inflame them!

Guai a quelli che si alzano al mattino presto per correre dietro a bevande inebrianti e si attardano fino a sera finche il vino li infiammi!

12 A nd the harp and the lute, the tabret and the pipe, and wine, are in their feasts; but they regard not the work of Jehovah, neither have they considered the operation of his hands.

Nei loro banchetti vi è la cetra, l'arpa, il tamburello, il flauto e il vino, ma non prestano attenzione all'opera dell'Eterno e non considerano ciò che ha fatto con le sue mani.

13 T herefore my people are gone into captivity for lack of knowledge; and their honorable men are famished, and their multitude are parched with thirst.

Perciò il mio popolo va in cattività per mancanza di conoscenza, la sua nobiltà muore di fame e la sua folla sarà arsa dalla sete.

14 T herefore Sheol hath enlarged its desire, and opened its mouth without measure; and their glory, and their multitude, and their pomp, and he that rejoiceth among them, descend into it.

Perciò lo Sceol, ha dilatato le sue fauci e ha aperto in modo smisurato la sua bocca, e in esso scenderanno la sua gloria, la sua folla, il suo frastuono e chi in essa festeggia.

15 A nd the mean man is bowed down, and the great man is humbled, and the eyes of the lofty are humbled:

L'uomo comune sarà umiliato, l'uomo importante sarà abbassato e gli occhi dei superbi saranno umiliati.

16 b ut Jehovah of hosts is exalted in justice, and God the Holy One is sanctified in righteousness.

Ma l'Eterno degli eserciti sarà esaltato nel giudizio, e il Dio santo si mostrerà santo nella giustizia.

17 T hen shall the lambs feed as in their pasture, and the waste places of the fat ones shall wanderers eat.

Allora gli agnelli pascoleranno come nei loro pascoli e gli stranieri divoreranno i campi deserti dei ricchi.

18 W oe unto them that draw iniquity with cords of falsehood, and sin as it were with a cart rope;

Guai a quelli che tirano l'iniquità con corde di falsità e il peccato come con corde da carro,

19 t hat say, Let him make speed, let him hasten his work, that we may see it; and let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel draw nigh and come, that we may know it!

e dicono: «Faccia presto, realizzi l'opera sua, affinché la possiamo vedere. Si avvicini e si compia il disegno del Santo d'Israele, affinché lo possiamo conoscere».

20 W oe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!

Guai a quelli che chiamano bene il male, e male il bene che cambiano le tenebre in luce e la luce in tenebre, che cambiano l'amaro in dolce e il dolce in amaro!

21 W oe unto them that are wise in their own eyes, and prudent in their own sight!

Guai a quelli che sono saggi ai loro occhi e intelligenti davanti a loro stessi!

22 W oe unto them that are mighty to drink wine, and men of strength to mingle strong drink;

Guai ai campioni nel bere il vino e abili nel mescolare bevande inebrianti,

23 t hat justify the wicked for a bribe, and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him!

che assolvono il malvagio per un regalo e privano il giusto del suo diritto!.

24 T herefore as the tongue of fire devoureth the stubble, and as the dry grass sinketh down in the flame, so their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go up as dust; because they have rejected the law of Jehovah of hosts, and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.

Perciò, come una lingua di fuoco divora la stoppia e la fiamma consuma la paglia, cosí la loro radice sarà come marciume e il loro fiore sarà portato via come polvere, perché hanno rigettato la legge dell'Eterno degli eserciti e hanno disprezzato la parola del Santo d'Israele.

25 T herefore is the anger of Jehovah kindled against his people, and he hath stretched forth his hand against them, and hath smitten them; and the mountains tremble, and their dead bodies are as refuse in the midst of the streets. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand is stretched out still.

Per questo l'ira dell'Eterno si è accesa contro il suo popolo; egli ha steso la sua mano contro di lui e lo ha colpito cosí i monti hanno tremato e i loro cadaveri giacciono come spazzatura in mezzo alle strade; malgrado ciò la sua ira non si è placata e la sua mano rimane distesa.

26 A nd he will lift up an ensign to the nations from far, and will hiss for them from the end of the earth; and, behold, they shall come with speed swiftly.

Egli alzerà una bandiera per le nazioni lontane e fischierà loro dalle estremità della terra, ed ecco, esse verranno velocemente e prontamente.

27 N one shall be weary nor stumble among them; none shall slumber nor sleep; neither shall the girdle of their loins be loosed, nor the latchet of their shoes be broken:

Nessuno fra esse sarà stanco o vacillerà, nessuno sonnecchierà o dormirà, la cintura dei loro lombi, non si scioglierà, né si romperà il legaccio dei loro calzari.

28 w hose arrows are sharp, and all their bows bent; their horses' hoofs shall be accounted as flint, and their wheels as a whirlwind:

Le loro frecce sono acuminate e tutti i loro archi sono tesi; gli zoccoli dei loro cavalli sembreranno pietre e le ruote dei loro carri un turbine.

29 t heir roaring shall be like a lioness, they shall roar like young lions; yea, they shall roar, and lay hold of the prey, and carry it away safe, and there shall be none to deliver.

Il loro ruggito sarà come quello di un leone, ruggiranno come leoncelli; sí, ruggiranno, afferreranno la preda e la porteranno via al sicuro e nessuno gliela strapperà.

30 A nd they shall roar against them in that day like the roaring of the sea: and if one look unto the land, behold, darkness and distress; and the light is darkened in the clouds thereof.

In quel giorno ruggiranno contro Giuda, come rugge il mare; a guardare il paese, ecco tenebre e angoscia, e la luce sarà oscurata dalle nuvole.
