1 A t that time, saith Jehovah, will I be the God of all the families of Israel, and they shall be my people.

«In quel tempo», dice l'Eterno, «io sarò il DIO di tutte le famiglie d'Israele, ed esse saranno il mio popolo».

2 T hus saith Jehovah, The people that were left of the sword found favor in the wilderness; even Israel, when I went to cause him to rest.

Cosí dice l'Eterno: «Il popolo scampato dalla spada ha trovato grazia nel deserto, io darò riposo a Israele».

3 J ehovah appeared of old unto me, saying, Yea, I have loved thee with an everlasting love: therefore with lovingkindness have I drawn thee.

Molto tempo fa l'Eterno mi è apparso, dicendo: «Sí, ti ho amata di un amore eterno; per questo ti ho attirata con benevolenza.

4 A gain will I build thee, and thou shalt be built, O virgin of Israel: again shalt thou be adorned with thy tabrets, and shalt go forth in the dances of them that make merry.

Io ti riedificherò e tu sarai riedificata, o vergine d'Israele. Sarai di nuovo adorna dei tuoi tamburelli e uscirai in mezzo alle danze di quelli che fanno festa.

5 A gain shalt thou plant vineyards upon the mountains of Samaria; the planters shall plant, and shall enjoy the fruit thereof.

Pianterai ancora vigne sui monti di Samaria; i piantatori pianteranno e raccoglieranno il frutto.

6 F or there shall be a day, that the watchmen upon the hills of Ephraim shall cry, Arise ye, and let us go up to Zion unto Jehovah our God.

Verrà il giorno in cui le sentinelle grideranno sul monte Efraim: "Levatevi, saliamo a Sion, all'Eterno, il nostro DIO"».

7 F or thus saith Jehovah, Sing with gladness for Jacob, and shout for the chief of the nations: publish ye, praise ye, and say, O Jehovah, save thy people, the remnant of Israel.

Poiché cosí dice l'Eterno: «Innalzate canti di gioia per Giacobbe e mandate grida per il capo delle nazioni; proclamate, cantate lodi e dite: O Eterno, salva il tuo popolo, il residuo d'Israele.

8 B ehold, I will bring them from the north country, and gather them from the uttermost parts of the earth, and with them the blind and the lame, the woman with child and her that travaileth with child together: a great company shall they return hither.

Ecco, li riconduco dal paese del nord e li raduno dalle estremità della terra. Tra di essi c'è il cieco e lo zoppo, la donna incinta e insieme quella che sta per partorire: una grande moltitudine ritornerà qui.

9 T hey shall come with weeping; and with supplications will I lead them: I will cause them to walk by rivers of waters, in a straight way wherein they shall not stumble; for I am a father to Israel, and Ephraim is my first-born.

Verranno piangendo, li condurrò con suppliche. Li farò camminare lungo corsi d'acqua, per una via diritta sulla quale non inciamperanno, perché sono un padre per Israele, ed Efraim è il mio primogenito.

10 H ear the word of Jehovah, O ye nations, and declare it in the isles afar off; and say, He that scattered Israel will gather him, and keep him, as shepherd doth his flock.

O nazioni, ascoltate la parola dell'Eterno e annunziatela nelle isole lontane, e dite: Chi ha disperso Israele lo raduna e lo custodisce come un pastore fa col suo gregge.

11 F or Jehovah hath ransomed Jacob, and redeemed him from the hand of him that was stronger than he.

Poiché l'Eterno ha riscattato Giacobbe, l'ha redento dalla mano di uno piú forte di lui.

12 A nd they shall come and sing in the height of Zion, and shall flow unto the goodness of Jehovah, to the grain, and to the new wine, and to the oil, and to the young of the flock and of the herd: and their soul shall be as a watered garden; and they shall not sorrow any more at all.

Essi verranno e canteranno di gioia sulle alture di Sion e affluiranno verso i beni dell'Eterno: verso il frumento, il vino e l'olio, e verso i nati del gregge e dell'armento, la loro vita sarà come un giardino annaffiato e non languiranno piú.

13 T hen shall the virgin rejoice in the dance, and the young men and the old together; for I will turn their mourning into joy, and will comfort them, and make them rejoice from their sorrow.

Allora la vergine si rallegrerà nella danza e i giovani insieme ai vecchi, perché muterò il loro lutto in gioia, li consolerò e li rallegrerò dopo il loro dolore.

14 A nd I will satiate the soul of the priests with fatness, and my people shall be satisfied with my goodness, saith Jehovah.

Sazierò l'anima dei sacerdoti con grande abbondanza e il mio popolo sarà colmato dei miei beni», dice l'Eterno.

15 T hus saith Jehovah: A voice is heard in Ramah, lamentation, and bitter weeping, Rachel weeping for her children; she refuseth to be comforted for her children, because they are not.

Cosí dice l'Eterno: «S'è udita una voce in Ramah, un lamento e un pianto amaro: Rachele, piange i suoi figli e rifiuta di essere consolata per i suoi figli, perchè non sono più».

16 T hus saith Jehovah: Refrain thy voice from weeping, and thine eyes from tears; for thy work shall be rewarded, saith Jehovah; and they shall come again from the land of the enemy.

Cosí dice l'Eterno: «Trattieni la tua voce dal piangere, i tuoi occhi dal versare lacrime, perché la tua opera sarà ricompensata», dice l'Eterno; «essi ritorneranno dal paese del nemico.

17 A nd there is hope for thy latter end, saith Jehovah; and thy children shall come again to their own border.

C'è speranza per la tua discendenza», dice l'Eterno; «i tuoi figli ritorneranno entro i loro confini.

18 I have surely heard Ephraim bemoaning himself thus, Thou hast chastised me, and I was chastised, as a calf unaccustomed to the yoke: turn thou me, and I shall be turned; for thou art Jehovah my God.

Ho ripetutamente udito Efraim lamentarsi: "Tu mi hai castigato e io sono stato castigato come un torello non domato; fammi ritornare e io ritornerò, perché tu sei l'Eterno, il mio DIO.

19 S urely after that I was turned, I repented; and after that I was instructed, I smote upon my thigh: I was ashamed, yea, even confounded, because I did bear the reproach of my youth.

Dopo essermi sviato, mi sono pentito; dopo aver riconosciuto il mio stato, mi sono battuto l'anca. Mi sono vergognato e ho provato confusione perché porto l'obbrobrio della mia giovinezza".

20 I s Ephraim my dear son? is he a darling child? for as often as I speak against him, I do earnestly remember him still: therefore my heart yearneth for him; I will surely have mercy upon him, saith Jehovah.

E' dunque Efraim un figlio caro per me, un figlio delle mie delizie? Infatti, anche dopo aver parlato contro di lui, lo ricordo ancora vivamente. Perciò le mie viscere si commuovono per lui, e avrò certamente compassione di lui», dice l'Eterno.

21 S et thee up waymarks, make thee guide-posts; set thy heart toward the highway, even the way by which thou wentest: turn again, O virgin of Israel, turn again to these thy cities.

«Rizza per te dei ceppi, fatti dei pali indicatori, fa' molta attenzione alla strada, alla via che hai seguito. Ritorna, o vergine d'Israele, ritorna a queste tue città.

22 H ow long wilt thou go hither and thither, O thou backsliding daughter? for Jehovah hath created a new thing in the earth: a woman shall encompass a man.

Fino a quando andrai vagando, o figlia ribelle? Poiché l'Eterno crea una cosa nuova sulla terra: la donna che corteggia l'uomo».

23 T hus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel, Yet again shall they use this speech in the land of Judah and in the cities thereof, when I shall bring again their captivity: Jehovah bless thee, O habitation of righteousness, O mountain of holiness.

Cosí dice l'Eterno degli eserciti, il DIO d'Israele: «Si dirà ancora questa parola nel paese di Giuda e nelle sue città, quando li avrò fatti tornare dalla cattività: "L'Eterno ti benedica, o dimora di giustizia, o monte di SANTITA'!".

24 A nd Judah and all the cities thereof shall dwell therein together, the husbandmen, and they that go about with flocks.

Là abiteranno Giuda e tutte le sue città insieme, gli agricoltori e quelli che conducono le greggi.

25 F or I have satiated the weary soul, and every sorrowful soul have I replenished.

Poiché io sazierò l'anima stanca e ricolmerò ogni anima languente».

26 U pon this I awaked, and beheld; and my sleep was sweet unto me.

Dopo questo mi sono svegliato e ho guardato, e il mio sonno mi è stato dolce.

27 B ehold, the days come, saith Jehovah, that I will sow the house of Israel and the house of Judah with the seed of man, and with the seed of beast.

«Ecco, verranno i giorni», dice l'Eterno, «nei quali seminerò la casa d'Israele e la casa di Giuda con seme di uomini e con seme di animali.

28 A nd it shall come to pass that, like as I have watched over them to pluck up and to break down and to overthrow and to destroy and to afflict, so will I watch over them to build and to plant, saith Jehovah.

E avverrà che come ho vegliato su di loro per sradicare, per demolire e per abbattere, per distruggere e per far del male, cosí veglierò su di loro per edificare e per piantare», dice l'Eterno.

29 I n those days they shall say no more, The fathers have eaten sour grapes, and the children's teeth are set on edge.

«In quei giorni non si dirà piú: "I padri hanno mangiato l'uva acerba e i denti dei figli sono rimasti allegati".

30 B ut every one shall die for his own iniquity: every man that eateth the sour grapes, his teeth shall be set on edge.

Ma ognuno morirà per la propria iniquità; chiunque mangerà l'uva acerba rimarrà con i denti allegati.

31 B ehold, the days come, saith Jehovah, that I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel, and with the house of Judah:

Ecco, verranno i giorni», dice l'Eterno, «nei quali stabilirò un nuovo patto con la casa d'Israele e con la casa di Giuda,

32 n ot according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt; which my covenant they brake, although I was a husband unto them, saith Jehovah.

non come il patto che ho stabilito con i loro padri nel giorno in cui li presi per mano per farli uscire dal paese di Egitto, perché essi violarono il mio patto, benché io fossi loro Signore»; dice l'Eterno.

33 B ut this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, saith Jehovah: I will put my law in their inward parts, and in their heart will I write it; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people:

«Ma questo è il patto che stabilirò con la casa d'Israele dopo quei giorni» dice l'Eterno: «Metterò la mia legge nella loro mente e la scriverò sul loro cuore, e io sarò il loro Dio ed essi saranno il mio popolo.

34 a nd they shall teach no more every man his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying, Know Jehovah; for they shall all know me, from the least of them unto the greatest of them, saith Jehovah: for I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin will I remember no more.

Non insegneranno piú ciascuno il proprio vicino né ciascuno il proprio fratello, dicendo: Conoscete l'Eterno! perché tutti mi conosceranno, dal piú piccolo al piú grande», dice l'Eterno. «Poiché io perdonerò la loro iniquità e non mi ricorderò più del loro peccato».

35 T hus saith Jehovah, who giveth the sun for a light by day, and the ordinances of the moon and of the stars for a light by night, who stirreth up the sea, so that the waves thereof roar; Jehovah of hosts is his name:

Cosí dice l'Eterno, che ha dato il sole per la luce di giorno e le leggi alla luna e alle stelle per la luce di notte, che solleva il mare e ne fa mugghiare le onde, il cui nome è l'Eterno degli eserciti.

36 I f these ordinances depart from before me, saith Jehovah, then the seed of Israel also shall cease from being a nation before me for ever.

«Se quelle leggi venissero meno davanti a me», dice l'Eterno, «allora anche la progenie d'Israele cesserebbe di essere una nazione davanti a me per sempre».

37 T hus saith Jehovah: If heaven above can be measured, and the foundations of the earth searched out beneath, then will I also cast off all the seed of Israel for all that they have done, saith Jehovah.

Cosí dice l'Eterno: «Se si potessero misurare i cieli in alto, o esplorare le fondamenta della terra in basso, allora anch'io rigetterei tutta la progenie d'Israele per tutto ciò che hanno fatto, dice l'Eterno.

38 B ehold, the days come, saith Jehovah, that the city shall be built to Jehovah from the tower of Hananel unto the gate of the corner.

Ecco, verranno i giorni, dice l'Eterno, nei quali questa città sarà ricostruita per l'Eterno dalla torre di Hananeel alla porta dell'Angolo.

39 A nd the measuring line shall go out further straight onward unto the hill Gareb, and shall turn about unto Goah.

Di là la corda per misurare sarà ancora tesa in linea retta fino al colle di Gareb, voltando poi verso Goah.

40 A nd the whole valley of the dead bodies and of the ashes, and all the fields unto the brook Kidron, unto the corner of the horse gate toward the east, shall be holy unto Jehovah; it shall not be plucked up, nor thrown down any more for ever.

Tutta la valle dei cadaveri e delle ceneri e tutti i campi fino al torrente, Kidron, fino all'angolo della porta dei Cavalli verso est, saranno consacrati all'Eterno. Non sarà mai piú distrutta né demolita in perpetuo».
