1 T hen Job answered Jehovah, and said,

Allora Giobbe rispose all'Eterno e disse:

2 I know that thou canst do all things, And that no purpose of thine can be restrained.

«Riconosco che puoi tutto, e che nessun tuo disegno può essere impedito.

3 W ho is this that hideth counsel without knowledge? Therefore have I uttered that which I understood not, Things too wonderful for me, which I knew not.

Chi è colui che offusca il tuo consiglio senza intendimento? Per questo ho detto cose che non comprendevo, cose troppo alte per me che non conoscevo.

4 H ear, I beseech thee, and I will speak; I will demand of thee, and declare thou unto me.

Deh, ascolta, e io parlerò; io ti interrogherò e tu mi risponderai.

5 I had heard of thee by the hearing of the ear; But now mine eye seeth thee:

Il mio orecchio aveva sentito parlare di te, ma ora il mio occhio ti vede.

6 W herefore I abhor myself, And repent in dust and ashes.

Perciò provo disgusto nei miei confronti e mi pento sulla polvere e sulla cenere».

7 A nd it was so, that, after Jehovah had spoken these words unto Job, Jehovah said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against thee, and against thy two friends; for ye have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job hath.

Ora, dopo che l'Eterno ebbe rivolto queste parole a Giobbe, l'Eterno disse a Elifaz di Teman: «La mia ira si è accesa contro te e contro i tuoi due amici, perché non avete parlato di me rettamente, come ha fatto il mio servo Giobbe.

8 N ow therefore, take unto you seven bullocks and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer up for yourselves a burnt-offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you; for him will I accept, that I deal not with you after your folly; for ye have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job hath.

Ora dunque prendete con voi sette tori e sette montoni, andate dal mio servo Giobbe e offrite un olocausto per voi stessi. Il mio servo Giobbe pregherà per voi; e cosí per riguardo a lui non vi tratterò secondo la vostra follia, perché non avete parlato di me rettamente come ha fatto il mio servo Giobbe».

9 S o Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went, and did according as Jehovah commanded them: and Jehovah accepted Job.

Elifaz di Teman e Bildad di Shuah e Tsofar di Naamath andarono e fecero come l'Eterno aveva loro ordinato; e l'Eterno ebbe riguardo a Giobbe.

10 A nd Jehovah turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: and Jehovah gave Job twice as much as he had before.

Quando Giobbe ebbe pregato per i suoi amici, l'Eterno lo ristabilí nel precedente stato; cosí l'Eterno rese a Giobbe il doppio di tutto ciò che aveva posseduto.

11 T hen came there unto him all his brethren, and all his sisters, and all they that had been of his acquaintance before, and did eat bread with him in his house: and they bemoaned him, and comforted him concerning all the evil that Jehovah had brought upon him: every man also gave him a piece of money, and every one a ring of gold.

Tutti i suoi fratelli, tutte le sue sorelle e tutti i suoi conoscenti di prima vennero a trovarlo, mangiarono con lui in casa sua; essi lo confortarono e lo consolarono di tutte le avversità che l'Eterno aveva mandato su di lui; quindi ognuno di essi gli diede un pezzo d'argento e un anello d'oro.

12 S o Jehovah blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: And he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she-asses.

Ora l'Eterno benedisse gli ultimi anni di Giobbe piú dei primi, perché egli ebbe quattordicimila pecore, seimila cammelli, mille paia di buoi e mille asine.

13 H e had also seven sons and three daughters.

Ebbe pure sette figli e tre figlie;

14 A nd he called the name of the first, Jemimah: and the name of the second, Keziah; and the name of the third, Keren-happuch.

e chiamò la prima Jemimah, la seconda Ketsiah e la terza Keren-Happuk.

15 A nd in all the land were no women found so fair as the daughters of Job: and their father gave them inheritance among their brethren.

In tutto il paese non c'erano donne cosí belle come le figlie di Giobbe; e il padre assegnò loro una eredità tra i loro fratelli.

16 A nd after this Job lived a hundred and forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons' sons, even four generations.

Dopo questo Giobbe visse centoquarant'anni e vide i suoi figli e i figli dei suoi figli per quattro generazioni.

17 S o Job died, being old and full of days.

Poi Giobbe morí vecchio e sazio di giorni.
