1 I will sing of the lovingkindness of Jehovah for ever: With my mouth will I make known thy faithfulness to all generations.

2 F or I have said, Mercy shall be built up for ever; Thy faithfulness wilt thou establish in the very heavens.

3 I have made a covenant with my chosen, I have sworn unto David my servant:

4 T hy seed will I establish for ever, And build up thy throne to all generations. Selah

Stabilirò la tua progenie in eterno, ed edificherò il tuo trono per ogni età. (Sela)

5 A nd the heavens shall praise thy wonders, O Jehovah; Thy faithfulness also in the assembly of the holy ones.

E i cieli celebreranno le tue meraviglie, o Eterno, e la tua fedeltà nell'assemblea dei santi.

6 F or who in the skies can be compared unto Jehovah? Who among the sons of the mighty is like unto Jehovah,

Poiché chi può in cielo essere paragonato all'Eterno? E chi è simile all'Eterno fra i figli del Potente?

7 A God very terrible in the council of the holy ones, And to be feared above all them that are round about him?

DIO è grandemente temuto nell'assemblea dei santi, e profondamente rispettato da tutti quelli che lo circondano.

8 O Jehovah God of hosts, Who is a mighty one, like unto thee, O Jehovah? And thy faithfulness is round about thee.

O Eterno, DIO degli eserciti chi è potente come te, o Eterno? La tua fedeltà ti circonda dappertutto.

9 T hou rulest the pride of the sea: When the waves thereof arise, thou stillest them.

Tu domini la furia del mare, quando le sue onde s'innalzano, tu le acqueti.

10 T hou hast broken Rahab in pieces, as one that is slain; Thou hast scattered thine enemies with the arm of thy strength.

Tu hai ridotto in frantumi l'Egitto ferendolo a morte; con braccio potente hai disperso i tuoi nemici.

11 T he heavens are thine, the earth also is thine: The world and the fulness thereof, thou hast founded them.

I cieli sono tuoi, anche la terra è tua tu hai fondato il mondo e tutto ciò che è in esso.

12 T he north and the south, thou hast created them: Tabor and Hermon rejoice in thy name.

Tu hai creato il settentrione e il mezzogiorno; il Tabor e l'Hermon mandano grida di gioia al tuo nome.

13 T hou hast a mighty arm; Strong is thy hand, and high is thy right hand.

Tu hai un braccio forte; la tua mano è potente, la tua destra è esaltata.

14 R ighteousness and justice are the foundation of thy throne: Lovingkindness and truth go before thy face.

Giustizia e diritto formano la base del tuo trono; benignità e verità vanno davanti al tuo volto.

15 B lessed is the people that know the joyful sound: They walk, O Jehovah, in the light of thy countenance.

Beato il popolo che conosce il grido di giubilo, o Eterno, perché esso camminerà alla luce del tuo volto;

16 I n thy name do they rejoice all the day; And in thy righteousness are they exalted.

si rallegrerà tutto il giorno nel tuo nome ed esulterà nella tua giustizia.

17 F or thou art the glory of their strength; And in thy favor our horn shall be exalted.

Sí, tu sei il vanto della loro forza, e col tuo favore accresci la nostra potenza.

18 F or our shield belongeth unto Jehovah; And our king to the Holy One of Israel.

Poiché il nostro scudo appartiene all'Eterno e il nostro re al Santo d'Israele.

19 T hen thou spakest in vision to thy saints, And saidst, I have laid help upon one that is mighty; I have exalted one chosen out of the people.

Tu parlasti allora in visione al tuo diletto e dicesti: «Ho dato aiuto a uno che è potente, ho esaltato un eletto tra il popolo.

20 I have found David my servant; With my holy oil have I anointed him:

Ho trovato Davide mio servo, e l'ho unto col mio santo olio.

21 W ith whom my hand shall be established; Mine arm also shall strengthen him.

La mia mano lo sosterrà fermamente e il mio braccio lo fortificherà.

22 T he enemy shall not exact from him, Nor the son of wickedness afflict him.

Il nemico non lo opprimerà e il perverso non lo affliggerà.

23 A nd I will beat down his adversaries before him, And smite them that hate him.

Annienterò davanti a lui i suoi nemici e colpirò quelli che lo odiano.

24 B ut my faithfulness and my lovingkindness shall be with him; And in my name shall his horn be exalted.

La mia fedeltà e la mia benignità saranno con lui, e nel mio nome riceverà potenza.

25 I will set his hand also on the sea, And his right hand on the rivers.

Stenderò la sua mano sul mare e la sua destra sui fiumi.

26 H e shall cry unto me, Thou art my Father, My God, and the rock of my salvation.

Egli m'invocherà, dicendo: "Tu sei mio Padre, il mio DIO e la Rocca della mia salvezza".

27 I also will make him my first-born, The highest of the kings of the earth.

Lo costituirò pure mio primogenito, il piú eccelso dei re della terra.

28 M y lovingkindness will I keep for him for evermore; And my covenant shall stand fast with him.

Gli userò benignità per sempre, e il mio patto con lui rimarrà stabile.

29 H is seed also will I make to endure for ever, And his throne as the days of heaven.

Renderò pure la sua progenie eterna e il suo trono come i giorni dei cieli.

30 I f his children forsake my law, And walk not in mine ordinances;

Se i suoi figli abbandonano la mia legge e non camminano nei miei ordinamenti,

31 I f they break my statutes, And keep not my commandments;

se violano i miei statuti e non osservano i miei comandamenti,

32 T hen will I visit their transgression with the rod, And their iniquity with stripes.

io punirò la loro trasgressione con la verga e la loro iniquità con battiture;

33 B ut my lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him, Nor suffer my faithfulness to fail.

ma non ritirerò la mia benignità da lui e non lascerò che la mia fedeltà venga meno.

34 M y covenant will I not break, Nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.

Non violerò il mio patto e non muterò le parole che sono uscite dalla mia bocca.

35 O nce have I sworn by my holiness: I will not lie unto David:

Ho giurato una volta per la mia SANTITA' e non mentirò a Davide;

36 H is seed shall endure for ever, And his throne as the sun before me.

la sua progenie durerà in eterno e il suo trono sarà come il sole davanti a me.

37 I t shall be established for ever as the moon, And as the faithful witness in the sky. Selah

sarà stabile per sempre come la luna, e il testimone nel cielo è fedele». (Sela)

38 B ut thou hast cast off and rejected, Thou hast been wroth with thine anointed.

Ma tu ci hai abbandonato e respinto; ti sei grandemente adirato contro il tuo unto.

39 T hou hast abhorred the covenant of thy servant: Thou hast profaned his crown by casting it to the ground.

Tu hai disprezzato il patto fatto col tuo servo e hai profanato la sua corona, facendola cadere a terra.

40 T hou hast broken down all his hedges; Thou hast brought his strongholds to ruin.

Hai abbattuto tutte le sue difese e hai ridotto in rovine le sue fortezze.

41 A ll that pass by the way rob him: He is become a reproach to his neighbors.

Tutti i passanti lo hanno saccheggiato ed è divenuto lo scherno dei suoi vicini.

42 T hou hast exalted the right hand of his adversaries; Thou hast made all his enemies to rejoice.

Hai esaltato la destra dei suoi avversari e hai fatto giubilare tutti i suoi nemici.

43 Y ea, thou turnest back the edge of his sword, And hast not made him to stand in the battle.

Hai fatto piegare il taglio della sua spada e non l'hai sostenuto nella battaglia.

44 T hou hast made his brightness to cease, And cast his throne down to the ground.

Hai posto fine al suo splendore e hai gettato a terra il suo trono.

45 T he days of his youth hast thou shortened: Thou hast covered him with shame. Selah

Hai accorciato i giorni della sua giovinezza e l'hai coperto di vergogna. (Sela)

46 H ow long, O Jehovah? wilt thou hide thyself for ever? How long shall thy wrath burn like fire?

Fino a quando, o Eterno? Ti nasconderai tu per sempre? Arderà la tua ira come un fuoco?

47 O h remember how short my time is: For what vanity hast thou created all the children of men!

Ricordati quanto breve sia la mia vita. Per quale vanità hai creato tutti i figli degli uomini?

48 W hat man is he that shall live and not see death, That shall deliver his soul from the power of Sheol? Selah

49 L ord, where are thy former lovingkindnesses, Which thou swarest unto David in thy faithfulness?

Dove sono, o Signore, le tue benignità antiche, che giurasti a Davide nella tua fedeltà?

50 R emember, Lord, the reproach of thy servants; How I do bear in my bosom the reproach of all the mighty peoples,

Ricordati, o Signore. dell'oltraggio fatto ai tuoi servi, e come io porto in cuore l'oltraggio di tutte le nazioni,

51 W herewith thine enemies have reproached, O Jehovah, Wherewith they have reproached the footsteps of thine anointed.

col quale i tuoi nemici ti hanno oltraggiato, o Eterno, col quale hanno oltraggiato i passi del tuo unto.

52 B lessed be Jehovah for evermore. Amen, and Amen.
