1 W hoso loveth correction loveth knowledge; But he that hateth reproof is brutish.

2 A good man shall obtain favor of Jehovah; But a man of wicked devices will he condemn.

L'uomo buono ottiene il favore dell'Eterno, ma egli condannerà l'uomo che escogita disegni malvagi.

3 A man shall not be established by wickedness; But the root of the righteous shall not be moved.

L'uomo non diventa stabile con l'empietà, ma la radice dei giusti non sarà mai smossa.

4 A worthy woman is the crown of her husband; But she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.

La donna virtuosa è la corona di suo marito, ma quella che fa vergogna è come un tarlo nelle sue ossa.

5 T he thoughts of the righteous are just; But the counsels of the wicked are deceit.

I pensieri dei giusti sono equità, ma i disegni degli empi sono inganno.

6 T he words of the wicked are of lying in wait for blood; But the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.

Le parole degli empi stanno in agguato per spargere sangue, ma la bocca degli uomini retti li libererà.

7 T he wicked are overthrown, and are not; But the house of the righteous shall stand.

Gli empi sono rovesciati e non sono piú, ma la casa dei giusti rimarrà in piedi.

8 A man shall be commended according to his wisdom; But he that is of a perverse heart shall be despised.

Un uomo è lodato per il suo senno, ma chi ha un cuore perverso sarà disprezzato.

9 B etter is he that is lightly esteemed, and hath a servant, Than he that honoreth himself, and lacketh bread.

E' meglio essere poco stimato ma avere un servo, che essere onorato ma mancar di pane.

10 A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast; But the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.

Il giusto ha cura della vita del suo bestiame, ma le viscere degli empi sono crudeli.

11 H e that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread; But he that followeth after vain persons is void of understanding.

Chi coltiva la sua terra si sazierà di pane ma chi va dietro le frivolezze è privo di senno.

12 T he wicked desireth the net of evil men; But the root of the righteous yieldeth fruit.

L'empio desidera la preda dei malvagi, ma la radice dei giusti porta frutto.

13 I n the transgression of the lips is a snare to the evil man; But the righteous shall come out of trouble.

Il malvagio è preso in trappola dal peccato delle sue labbra, ma il giusto sfuggirà all'avversità.

14 A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth; And the doings of a man's hands shall be rendered unto him.

L'uomo sarà saziato di beni per il frutto della sua bocca, e ognuno riceverà la ricompensa secondo l'opera delle sue mani.

15 T he way of a fool is right in his own eyes; But he that is wise hearkeneth unto counsel.

La via dello stolto è diritta ai suoi occhi, ma chi ascolta i consigli è saggio.

16 A fool's vexation is presently known; But a prudent man concealeth shame.

Lo stolto fa vedere subito la sua irritazione, ma l'uomo prudente nasconde il disonore.

17 H e that uttereth truth showeth forth righteousness; But a false witness, deceit.

Chi dice la verità proclama ciò che è giusto, ma il falso testimone proferisce inganno.

18 T here is that speaketh rashly like the piercings of a sword; But the tongue of the wise is health.

Chi parla sconsideratamente è come se trafiggesse con la spada, ma la lingua dei saggi reca guarigione.

19 T he lip of truth shall be established for ever; But a lying tongue is but for a moment.

Il labbro verace sarà reso stabile per sempre, ma la lingua bugiarda dura solo un istante.

20 D eceit is in the heart of them that devise evil; But to the counsellors of peace is joy.

L'inganno è nel cuore di quelli che macchinano il male, ma per quelli che consigliano pace e gioia.

21 T here shall no mischief happen to the righteous; But the wicked shall be filled with evil.

Nessun male accadrà al giusto, ma gli empi saranno pieni di guai.

22 L ying lips are an abomination to Jehovah; But they that deal truly are his delight.

Le labbra bugiarde sono un abominio per l'Eterno, ma quelli che agiscono lealmente gli sono graditi.

23 A prudent man concealeth knowledge; But the heart of fools proclaimeth foolishness.

L'uomo prudente nasconde la sua conoscenza, ma il cuore degli stolti proclama stoltezza.

24 T he hand of the diligent shall bear rule; But the slothful shall be put under taskwork.

La mano degli uomini solerti dominerà, ma quella dei pigri cadrà sotto lavoro forzato.

25 H eaviness in the heart of a man maketh it stoop; But a good word maketh it glad.

La preoccupazione nel cuore dell'uomo l'abbatte, ma una buona parola lo rallegra.

26 T he righteous is a guide to his neighbor; But the way of the wicked causeth them to err.

Il giusto sceglie attentamente il suo compagno, ma la via degli empi li fa smarrire.

27 T he slothful man roasteth not that which he took in hunting; But the precious substance of men is to the diligent.

Il pigro non arrostisce la sua selvaggina, ma la solerzia è per l'uomo un bene prezioso.

28 I n the way of righteousness is life; And in the pathway thereof there is no death.

Sul sentiero della giustizia vi è vita, e su quel sentiero non vi è morte.
