1 T hou shalt not sacrifice unto Jehovah thy God an ox, or a sheep, wherein is a blemish, or anything evil; for that is an abomination unto Jehovah thy God.

«Non immolerai all'Eterno, il tuo DIO, bue o pecora o capra che abbia alcun difetto o deformità, perché sarebbe cosa abominevole per l'Eterno, il tuo DIO.

2 I f there be found in the midst of thee, within any of thy gates which Jehovah thy God giveth thee, man or woman, that doeth that which is evil in the sight of Jehovah thy God, in transgressing his covenant,

Se si trova in mezzo a te, in una delle città che l'Eterno, il tuo DIO, ti dà, un uomo o una donna che faccia ciò che è male agli occhi dell'Eterno, il tuo DIO, trasgredendo il suo patto,

3 a nd hath gone and served other gods, and worshipped them, or the sun, or the moon, or any of the host of heaven, which I have not commanded;

e che vada a servire altri dèi e si prostri davanti a loro, davanti al sole o alla luna o a tutto l'esercito celeste, cosa che io non ho comandato,

4 a nd it be told thee, and thou hast heard of it, then shalt thou inquire diligently; and, behold, if it be true, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought in Israel,

e ti è stato riferito e ne hai sentito parlare, allora investiga diligentemente; e se è vero e certo che tale abominazione è stata commessa in Israele,

5 t hen shalt thou bring forth that man or that woman, who hath done this evil thing, unto thy gates, even the man or the woman; and thou shalt stone them to death with stones.

farai condurre alle porte della tua città quell'uomo o quella donna che ha commesso quell'azione malvagia, e lapiderai con pietre quell'uomo o quella donna; così moriranno.

6 A t the mouth of two witnesses, or three witnesses, shall he that is to die be put to death; at the mouth of one witness he shall not be put to death.

Colui che deve morire sarà messo a morte sulla deposizione di due o di tre testimoni; ma non sarà messo a morte sulla deposizione di un solo testimone.

7 T he hand of the witnesses shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterward the hand of all the people. So thou shalt put away the evil from the midst of thee.

La mano dei testimoni sarà la prima a levarsi contro di lui per farlo morire; poi seguirà la mano di tutto il popolo; così estirperai il male di mezzo a te.

8 I f there arise a matter too hard for thee in judgment, between blood and blood, between plea and plea, and between stroke and stroke, being matters of controversy within thy gates; then shalt thou arise, and get thee up unto the place which Jehovah thy God shall choose;

Se sorge un caso che è troppo difficile per te da giudicare, tra omicidio e omicidio, tra una causa e l'altra, tra un ferimento e l'altro, casi di disputa entro le tue porte, ti leverai e salirai al luogo che l'Eterno, il tuo DIO, ha scelto;

9 a nd thou shalt come unto the priests the Levites, and unto the judge that shall be in those days: and thou shalt inquire; and they shall show thee the sentence of judgment.

e andrai dai sacerdoti levitici e dal giudice in carica a quel tempo e li consulterai; essi allora pronuncieranno la sentenza di giudizio;

10 A nd thou shalt do according to the tenor of the sentence which they shall show thee from that place which Jehovah shall choose; and thou shalt observe to do according to all that they shall teach thee:

e tu ti atterrai alla sentenza che essi ti hanno indicato nel luogo che l'Eterno ha scelto, e avrai cura di fare tutto ciò che ti hanno insegnato.

11 a ccording to the tenor of the law which they shall teach thee, and according to the judgment which they shall tell thee, thou shalt do; thou shalt not turn aside from the sentence which they shall show thee, to the right hand, nor to the left.

Ti atterrai alla legge che ti hanno insegnato e al giudizio che ti hanno dichiarato; non devierai dalla sentenza che ti hanno indicato, né a destra né a sinistra.

12 A nd the man that doeth presumptuously, in not hearkening unto the priest that standeth to minister there before Jehovah thy God, or unto the judge, even that man shall die: and thou shalt put away the evil from Israel.

Ma l'uomo che agirà con presunzione e non darà ascolto al sacerdote che sta là per servire l'Eterno, il tuo DIO, o al giudice, quell'uomo morirà; così toglierai via il male da Israele;

13 A nd all the people shall hear, and fear, and do no more presumptuously.

così tutto il popolo verrà a saperlo, ne avrà timore e non agirà piú con presunzione.

14 W hen thou art come unto the land which Jehovah thy God giveth thee, and shalt possess it, and shalt dwell therein, and shalt say, I will set a king over me, like all the nations that are round about me;

Quando entrerai nel paese che l'Eterno, il tuo DIO, ti dà e ne prenderai possesso e l'abiterai, se dici: "Voglio costituire sopra di me un re come tutte le nazioni che mi circondano".

15 t hou shalt surely set him king over thee, whom Jehovah thy God shall choose: one from among thy brethren shalt thou set king over thee; thou mayest not put a foreigner over thee, who is not thy brother.

dovrai costituire sopra di te il re che l'Eterno, il tuo DIO, sceglierà. Costituirai sopra di te un re scelto tra i tuoi fratelli; non potrai costituire sopra di te uno straniero che non sia tuo fratello.

16 O nly he shall not multiply horses to himself, nor cause the people to return to Egypt, to the end that he may multiply horses; forasmuch as Jehovah hath said unto you, Ye shall henceforth return no more that way.

Ma egli non deve procurarsi un gran numero di cavalli, né deve far tornare il popolo in Egitto per procurarsi un gran numero di cavalli, poiché l'Eterno vi ha detto: "Non ritonerete piú per quella via".

17 N either shall he multiply wives to himself, that his heart turn not away: neither shall he greatly multiply to himself silver and gold.

Non deve procurarsi un gran numero di mogli, affinché il suo cuore non si svii; e non deve accumulare per se stesso una gran quantità di argento e d'oro.

18 A nd it shall be, when he sitteth upon the throne of his kingdom, that he shall write him a copy of this law in a book, out of that which is before the priests the Levites:

Inoltre, quando siederà sul trono del suo regno, scriverà per suo uso in un libro una copia di questa legge, secondo l'esemplare dei sacerdoti levitici.

19 a nd it shall be with him, and he shall read therein all the days of his life; that he may learn to fear Jehovah his God, to keep all the words of this law and these statutes, to do them;

La terrà presso di sé e la leggerà tutti i giorni della sua vita, per imparare a temere l'Eterno, il suo DIO, e a mettere in pratica tutte le parole di questa legge e questi statuti,

20 t hat his heart be not lifted up above his brethren, and that he turn not aside from the commandment, to the right hand, or to the left: to the end that he may prolong his days in his kingdom, he and his children, in the midst of Israel.

perché il suo cuore non si innalzi sopra i suoi fratelli ed egli non devii da questo comandamento né a destra né a sinistra, e prolunghi così i suoi giorni nel suo regno, lui e i suoi figli, in mezzo a Israele».
