1 T hen sang Moses and the children of Israel this song unto Jehovah, and spake, saying, I will sing unto Jehovah, for he hath triumphed gloriously: The horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.

Allora Mosè e i figli d'Israele cantarono questo cantico all'Eterno e parlarono dicendo: «Io canterò all'Eterno, perché si è grandemente esaltato; ha precipitato in mare cavallo e cavaliere.

2 J ehovah is my strength and song, And he is become my salvation: This is my God, and I will praise him; My father's God, and I will exalt him.

L'Eterno è la mia forza e il mio cantico, ed è stato la mia salvezza. Questo è il mio Dio, io lo glorificherò; è il DIO di mio padre io lo esalterò.

3 J ehovah is a man of war: Jehovah is his name.

L'Eterno è un guerriero, il suo nome è l'Eterno.

4 P haraoh's chariots and his host hath he cast into the sea; And his chosen captains are sunk in the Red Sea.

Egli ha gettato in mare i carri del Faraone e il suo esercito, e i suoi migliori guerrieri sono stati sommersi nel Mar Rosso.

5 T he deeps cover them: They went down into the depths like a stone.

Gli abissi li coprono; sono andati a fondo come una pietra.

6 T hy right hand, O Jehovah, is glorious in power, Thy right hand, O Jehovah, dasheth in pieces the enemy.

La tua destra, o Eterno, mirabile nella sua potenza. La tua destra, o Eterno, frantuma i nemici.

7 A nd in the greatness of thine excellency thou overthrowest them that rise up against thee: Thou sendest forth thy wrath, it consumeth them as stubble.

Con la grandezza della tua maestà, tu rovesci quelli che si levano contro di te; tu mandi fuori la tua ira, essa li consuma come stoppia.

8 A nd with the blast of thy nostrils the waters were piled up, The floods stood upright as a heap; The deeps were congealed in the heart of the sea.

Al soffio delle tue narici le acque si sono ammucchiate, le onde si sono alzate come un muro i flutti si sono assodati nel cuore del mare.

9 T he enemy said, I will pursue, I will overtake, I will divide the spoil; My desire shall be satisfied upon them; I will draw my sword, my hand shall destroy them.

Il nemico diceva: "Inseguirò, raggiungerò, dividerò le spoglie, la mia brama si sazierà su di loro; sguainerò la mia spada, la mia mano li sterminerà".

10 T hou didst blow with thy wind, the sea covered them: They sank as lead in the mighty waters.

Ma tu hai mandato fuori il tuo soffio e il mare li ha ricoperti; sono andati come piombo nelle potenti acque.

11 W ho is like unto thee, O Jehovah, among the gods? Who is like thee, glorious in holiness, Fearful in praises, doing wonders?

Chi è pari a te fra gli dei, o Eterno? Chi è pari a te, mirabile nella santità, maestoso nelle lodi, o operatore di prodigi?

12 T hou stretchedst out thy right hand, The earth swallowed them.

Tu hai steso la destra, la terra li ha inghiottiti.

13 T hou in thy lovingkindness hast led the people that thou hast redeemed: Thou hast guided them in thy strength to thy holy habitation.

Nella tua misericordia, hai guidato il popolo che hai riscattato; con la tua forza lo hai condotto verso la tua santa dimora.

14 T he peoples have heard, they tremble: Pangs have taken hold on the inhabitants of Philistia.

I popoli l'hanno udito e tremano. L'angoscia ha colto gli abitanti della Filistia.

15 T hen were the chiefs of Edom dismayed; The mighty men of Moab, trembling taketh hold upon them: All the inhabitants of Canaan are melted away.

Già sono smarriti i capi di Edom, i potenti di Moab sono presi da tremore, tutti gli abitanti di Canaan si struggono.

16 T error and dread falleth upon them; By the greatness of thine arm they are as still as a stone; Till thy people pass over, O Jehovah, Till the people pass over that thou hast purchased.

Spavento e terrore piomberà su di loro. Per la forza del tuo braccio diventeranno immobili come una pietra, finché il tuo popolo, o Eterno, sia passato, finché sia passato il popolo che tu hai acquistato.

17 T hou wilt bring them in, and plant them in the mountain of thine inheritance, The place, O Jehovah, which thou hast made for thee to dwell in, The sanctuary, O Lord, which thy hands have established.

Tu li introdurrai e li pianterai sul monte della tua eredità, il luogo che hai preparato, o Eterno, per tua dimora, il santuario che le tue mani, o Signore, hanno stabilito.

18 J ehovah shall reign for ever and ever.

L'Eterno regnerà per sempre, in perpetuo».

19 F or the horses of Pharaoh went in with his chariots and with his horsemen into the sea, and Jehovah brought back the waters of the sea upon them; but the children of Israel walked on dry land in the midst of the sea.

Poiché i cavalli del Faraone coi suoi carri e i suoi cavalieri erano entrati nel mare e l'Eterno aveva fatto ritornare su di loro e acque del mare, ma i figli d'Israele avevano camminato in mezzo al mare, all'asciutto.

20 A nd Miriam the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand; and all the women went out after her with timbrels and with dances.

Allora Miriam, la profetessa, sorella di Aaronne, prese in mano il tamburello, e tutte le donne uscirono dietro a lei coi tamburelli e con danze.

21 A nd Miriam answered them, Sing ye to Jehovah, for he hath triumphed gloriously; The horse and his rider hath he thrown into the sea.

E Miriam cantava loro: «Cantate all'Eterno perché si è grandemente esaltato; ha precipitato in mare cavallo e cavaliere».

22 A nd Moses led Israel onward from the Red Sea, and they went out into the wilderness of Shur; and they went three days in the wilderness, and found no water.

Poi Mosè fece partire gli Israeliti dal Mar Rosso ed essi si diressero verso il deserto di Shur; camminarono tre giorni nel deserto e non trovarono acqua.

23 A nd when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah, for they were bitter: therefore the name of it was called Marah.

Quando giunsero a Mara non poterono bere le acque di Mara perché erano amare; perciò quel luogo fu chiamato Mara.

24 A nd the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink?

Allora il popolo mormorò contro Mosè, dicendo: «Che berremo?».

25 A n he cried unto Jehovah; And Jehovah showed him a tree, and he cast it into the waters, and the waters were made sweet. There he made for them a statute and an ordinance, and there he proved them;

Così egli gridò all'Eterno; e l'Eterno gli mostrò un segno; egli lo gettò nelle acque, e le acque divennero dolci. Là l'Eterno diede a popolo una legge e un decreto e lo mise alla prova,

26 a nd he said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of Jehovah thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his eyes, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of the diseases upon thee, which I have put upon the Egyptians: for I am Jehovah that healeth thee.

e disse: «Se tu ascolti attentamente la voce dell'Eterno, il tuo DIO, e fai ciò che è giusto ai suoi occhi e porgi orecchio ai suoi comandamenti e osservi tutte le sue leggi io non ti manderò addosso alcuna delle malattie che ho mandato addosso agli Egiziani perché io sono l'Eterno che ti guarisco».

27 A nd they came to Elim, where were twelve springs of water, and threescore and ten palm-trees: and they encamped there by the waters.

Giunsero quindi ad Elim, dov'erano dodici sorgenti d'acqua e settanta palme; e vi si accamparono presso le acque.
