1 T he word of Jehovah came also unto me, saying,

La parola dell'Eterno mi fu rivolta, dicendo:

2 T hou shalt not take thee a wife, neither shalt thou have sons or daughters, in this place.

«Non prendere moglie né avere figli o figlie in questo luogo».

3 F or thus saith Jehovah concerning the sons and concerning the daughters that are born in this place, and concerning their mothers that bare them, and concerning their fathers that begat them in this land:

Poiché cosí dice l'Eterno riguardo ai figli e alle figlie che sono nati in questo paese e riguardo alle madri che li hanno partoriti e ai padri che li hanno generati in questo paese:

4 T hey shall die grievous deaths: they shall not be lamented, neither shall they be buried; they shall be as dung upon the face of the ground; and they shall be consumed by the sword, and by famine; and their dead bodies shall be food for the birds of the heavens, and for the beasts of the earth.

«Essi moriranno di morti atroci, non saranno rimpianti né sepolti, ma saranno lasciati come letame sulla superficie del suolo; saranno sterminati dalla spada e dalla fame, e i loro cadaveri saranno pasto per gli uccelli del cielo e per le bestie della terra».

5 F or thus saith Jehovah, Enter not into the house of mourning, neither go to lament, neither bemoan them; for I have taken away my peace from this people, saith Jehovah, even lovingkindness and tender mercies.

Poiché cosí dice l'Eterno: «Non entrare nella casa del lutto e non andare a far cordoglio e a piangerli, perché io ho ritirato da questo popolo la mia pace, la mia benignità e la mia compassione», dice l'Eterno.

6 B oth great and small shall die in this land; they shall not be buried, neither shall men lament for them, nor cut themselves, nor make themselves bald for them;

«Grandi e piccoli moriranno in questo paese; non saranno sepolti né si farà cordoglio per essi, non si faranno incisioni né rasatura per essi.

7 n either shall men break bread for them in mourning, to comfort them for the dead; neither shall men give them the cup of consolation to drink for their father or for their mother.

Non si romperà il pane per quelli che fanno cordoglio per consolarli di un morto né si darà loro da bere il calice della consolazione per il proprio padre e la propria madre.

8 A nd thou shalt not go into the house of feasting to sit with them, to eat and to drink.

Non entrare neppure in una casa di banchetto per sederti con loro a mangiare e a bere».

9 F or thus saith Jehovah of hosts, the God of Israel: Behold, I will cause to cease out of this place, before your eyes and in your days, the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride.

Poiché cosí dice l'Eterno degli eserciti, il DIO d'Israele: «Ecco, io farò cessare in questo luogo, sotto i vostri occhi e nei vostri giorni, il grido di gioia e il grido di allegrezza, la voce dello sposo e la voce della sposa.

10 A nd it shall come to pass, when thou shalt show this people all these words, and they shall say unto thee, Wherefore hath Jehovah pronounced all this great evil against us? or what is our iniquity? or what is our sin that we have committed against Jehovah our God?

E avverrà che quando annunzierai a questo popolo tutte queste cose, ti diranno: "Perché l'Eterno ha pronunciato contro di noi tutta questa grande calamità? Qual è la nostra iniquità? Qual è il peccato che abbiamo commesso contro l'Eterno, il nostro DIO?".

11 T hen shalt thou say unto them, Because your fathers have forsaken me, saith Jehovah, and have walked after other gods, and have served them, and have worshipped them, and have forsaken me, and have not kept my law;

Allora tu risponderai loro: Perché i vostri padri mi hanno abbandonato», dice l'Eterno, «sono andati dietro ad altri dèi, li hanno serviti e si sono prostrati davanti a loro, hanno abbandonato me e non hanno osservato la mia legge.

12 a nd ye have done evil more than your fathers; for, behold, ye walk every one after the stubbornness of his evil heart, so that ye hearken not unto me:

E voi avete fatto peggio dei vostri padri, perché ecco, ciascuno cammina seguendo la caparbietà del suo cuore malvagio e rifiuta di ascoltarmi.

13 t herefore will I cast you forth out of this land into the land that ye have not known, neither ye nor your fathers; and there shall ye serve other gods day and night; for I will show you no favor.

Perciò io vi scaccerò da questo paese in un paese che né voi né i vostri padri avete conosciuto e là servirete altri dèi giorno e notte, perché io non vi farò grazia».

14 T herefore, behold, the days come, saith Jehovah, that it shall no more be said, As Jehovah liveth, that brought up the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt;

«Perciò ecco, vengono i giorni», dice l'Eterno, «nei quali non si dirà piú: "Per l'Eterno vivente che ha fatto uscire i figli d'Israele dal paese d'Egitto",

15 b ut, As Jehovah liveth, that brought up the children of Israel from the land of the north, and from all the countries whither he had driven them. And I will bring them again into their land that I gave unto their fathers.

ma: "Per l'Eterno vivente che ha fatto uscire i figli d'Israele dal paese del nord e da tutti i paesi dove li aveva dispersi". E io li ricondurrò nel loro paese che avevo dato ai loro padri.

16 B ehold, I will send for many fishers, saith Jehovah, and they shall fish them up; and afterward I will send for many hunters, and they shall hunt them from every mountain, and from every hill, and out of the clefts of the rocks.

Ecco, io manderò un gran numero di pescatori a pescarli», dice l'Eterno, «e poi manderò un gran numero di cacciatori che li cacceranno da ogni monte da ogni collina e dalle fessure delle rocce.

17 F or mine eyes are upon all their ways; they are not hid from my face, neither is their iniquity concealed from mine eyes.

Poiché i miei occhi sono su tutte le loro vie, che non sono nascoste dalla mia faccia, né la loro iniquità rimane occulta ai miei occhi.

18 A nd first I will recompense their iniquity and their sin double, because they have polluted my land with the carcasses of their detestable things, and have filled mine inheritance with their abominations.

Prima di tutto li ripagherò doppiamente per la loro iniquità e il loro peccato, perché hanno profanato il mio paese con i cadaveri dei loro idoli esecrandi e hanno riempito la mia eredità con le loro abominazioni».

19 O Jehovah, my strength, and my stronghold, and my refuge in the day of affliction, unto thee shall the nations come from the ends of the earth, and shall say, Our fathers have inherited nought but lies, even vanity and things wherein there is no profit.

O Eterno, mia forza, mia fortezza, e mio rifugio nel giorno dell'avversità, a te verranno le nazioni dalle estremità della terra e diranno: «I nostri padri hanno ereditato soltanto menzogne, vanità e cose che non giovano a nulla».

20 S hall a man make unto himself gods, which yet are no gods?

«Può l'uomo fabbricarsi degli dèi, che però non sono dèi?

21 T herefore, behold, I will cause them to know, this once will I cause them to know my hand and my might; and they shall know that my name is Jehovah.

Perciò ecco, questa volta farò loro conoscere, mostrerò loro la mia mano e la mia potenza; ed essi sapranno che il mio nome è l'Eterno»
