1 S end ye the lambs for the ruler of the land from Selah to the wilderness, unto the mount of the daughter of Zion.

«Mandate un agnello al dominatore del paese, da Sela verso il deserto, al monte della figlia di Sion.

2 F or it shall be that, as wandering birds, as a scattered nest, so shall the daughters of Moab be at the fords of the Arnon.

Poiché avverrà che ai guadi dell'Arnon le figlie di Moab saranno come un uccello scacciato dal nido.

3 G ive counsel, execute justice; make thy shade as the night in the midst of the noonday; hide the outcasts; betray not the fugitive.

Dacci un consiglio, fa' giustizia! Rendi la tua ombra come la notte in pieno mezzodí; nascondi i dispersi, non tradire i fuggiaschi.

4 L et mine outcasts dwell with thee; as for Moab, be thou a covert to him from the face of the destroyer. For the extortioner is brought to nought, destruction ceaseth, the oppressors are consumed out of the land.

O Moab, lascia dimorare presso di te i miei dispersi, sii per loro un rifugio di fronte al devastatore. Poiché il tiranno non c'è piú, la devastazione è cessata, gli oppressori sono scomparsi dal paese.

5 A nd a throne shall be established in lovingkindness; and one shall sit thereon in truth, in the tent of David, judging, and seeking justice, and swift to do righteousness.

Allora un trono sarà reso stabile nella misericordia, e su di esso siederà nella fedeltà, nella tenda di Davide, uno che giudicherà, eserciterà il giudizio e sarà pronto a far giustizia».

6 W e have heard of the pride of Moab, that he is very proud; even of his arrogancy, and his pride, and his wrath; his boastings are nought.

«Noi abbiamo sentito parlare dell'orgoglio di Moab, estremamente orgoglioso, della sua alterigia, della sua superbia, della sua arroganza, del suo vantarsi senza fondamento».

7 T herefore shall Moab wail for Moab, every one shall wail: for the raisin-cakes of Kir-hareseth shall ye mourn, utterly stricken.

Per questo Moab innalzerà un lamento per Moab, tutti si lamenteranno. Voi piangerete costernati per le focacce di uva di Kir-Hareseth.

8 F or the fields of Heshbon languish, and the vine of Sibmah; the lords of the nations have broken down the choice branches thereof, which reached even unto Jazer, which wandered into the wilderness; its shoots were spread abroad, they passed over the sea.

Poiché le campagne di Heshbon languiscono, come pure le vigne di Sibmah i padroni delle nazioni hanno distrutto le sue piante migliori che arrivavano fino a Jazer e erravano per il deserto, i suoi rami si estendevano e oltrepassavano il mare.

9 T herefore I will weep with the weeping of Jazer for the vine of Sibmah; I will water thee with my tears, O Heshbon, and Elealeh: for upon thy summer fruits and upon thy harvest the battle shout is fallen.

Perciò con il pianto di Jazer piangerò le vigne di Sibmah; ti inzupperò con le mie lacrime, o Heshbon, o Elealeh, perché sui tuoi frutti d'estate e sulle tue messi si è abbattuto un grido di guerra.

10 A nd gladness is taken away, and joy out of the fruitful field; and in the vineyards there shall be no singing, neither joyful noise: no treader shall tread out wine in the presses; I have made the vintage shout to cease.

La gioia e il giubilo sono scomparsi dalla fertile campagna; nelle vigne non ci sono piú canti, né grida d'allegrezza; il pigiatore non pigia piú il vino nei tini; io ho fatto cessare il grido di gioia.

11 W herefore my heart soundeth like a harp for Moab, and mine inward parts for Kir-heres.

Perciò le mie viscere fremono per Moab come un'arpa, e il mio interiore per Kir-Heres.

12 A nd it shall come to pass, when Moab presenteth himself, when he wearieth himself upon the high place, and shall come to his sanctuary to pray, that he shall not prevail.

E avverrà che quando Moab si presenterà e si stancherà sull'alto luogo, entrerà nel suo santuario per pregare, ma non otterrà nulla.

13 T his is the word that Jehovah spake concerning Moab in time past.

Questa è la parola che l'Eterno indirizzò un tempo a Moab.

14 B ut now Jehovah hath spoken, saying, Within three years, as the years of a hireling, the glory of Moab shall be brought into contempt, with all his great multitude; and the remnant shall be very small and of no account.

Ma ora l'Eterno ha parlato, dicendo: «Entro tre anni, come gli anni di un bracciante salariato, la gloria di Moab cadrà in disprezzo insieme a tutta quella grande moltitudine; e rimarrà solamente un numero molto piccolo e debole».
