1 A nd there came one of the seven angels that had the seven bowls, and spake with me, saying, Come hither, I will show thee the judgment of the great harlot that sitteth upon many waters;

Poi uno dei sette angeli che avevano le sette coppe venne e mi disse: «Vieni, io ti mostrerò il giudizio della grande meretrice, che siede sopra molte acque,

2 w ith whom the kings of the earth committed fornication, and they that dwell in the earth were made drunken with the wine of her fornication.

con la quale hanno fornicato i re della terra, e gli abitanti della terra sono stati inebriati col vino della sua fornicazione».

3 A nd he carried me away in the Spirit into a wilderness: and I saw a woman sitting upon a scarlet-colored beast, full of names of blasphemy, having seven heads and ten horns.

Quindi egli mi trasportò in spirito in un deserto, e vidi una donna che sedeva sopra una bestia di colore scarlatto, piena di nomi di bestemmia e che aveva sette teste e dieci corna.

4 A nd the woman was arrayed in purple and scarlet, and decked with gold and precious stone and pearls, having in her hand a golden cup full of abominations, even the unclean things of her fornication,

La donna era vestita di porpora e di scarlatto, era tutta adorna d'oro, di pietre preziose e di perle, e aveva in mano una coppa d'oro piena di abominazioni e delle immondezze della sua fornicazione.

5 a nd upon her forehead a name written, MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF THE HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.

Sulla sua fronte era scritto un nome: «Mistero, Babilonia la grande, la madre delle meretrici e delle abominazioni della terra».

6 A nd I saw the woman drunken with the blood of the saints, and with the blood of the martyrs of Jesus. And when I saw her, I wondered with a great wonder.

E vidi la donna ebbra del sangue dei santi e del sangue dei martiri di Gesú. E, quando la vidi, mi meravigliai di grande meraviglia.

7 A nd the angel said unto me, Wherefore didst thou wonder? I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and the ten horns.

Ma l'angelo mi disse: «Perché ti meravigli? Io ti dirò il mistero della donna e della bestia che la porta, che ha sette teste e dieci corna.

8 T he beast that thou sawest was, and is not; and is about to come up out of the abyss, and to go into perdition. And they that dwell on the earth shall wonder, they whose name hath not been written in the book of life from the foundation of the world, when they behold the beast, how that he was, and is not, and shall come.

La bestia che tu hai visto era e non è piú e salirà dall'abisso e andrà in perdizione; e gli abitanti della terra, i cui nomi non sono scritti nel libro della vita fin dalla fondazione del mondo, si meraviglieranno vedendo la bestia che era, e non è, quantunque essa sia.

9 H ere is the mind that hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth:

Qui sta la mente che ha sapienza: le sette teste sono sette monti, sui quali la donna siede,

10 a nd they are seven kings; the five are fallen, the one is, the other is not yet come; and when he cometh, he must continue a little while.

e sono anche sette re; cinque sono caduti, uno è, l'altro non è ancora venuto; e, quando verrà, dovrà durare poco.

11 A nd the beast that was, and is not, is himself also an eighth, and is of the seven; and he goeth into perdition.

E la bestia che era e non è piú, è anch'essa un ottavo re, viene dai sette e se ne va in perdizione.

12 A nd the ten horns that thou sawest are ten kings, who have received no kingdom as yet; but they receive authority as kings, with the beast, for one hour.

Le dieci corna, che hai visto, sono dieci re i quali non hanno ancora ricevuto il regno, ma riceveranno potestà come re, per un'ora, insieme alla bestia.

13 T hese have one mind, and they give their power and authority unto the beast.

Essi hanno un unico scopo e daranno la loro potenza ed autorità alla bestia.

14 T hese shall war against the Lamb, and the Lamb shall overcome them, for he is Lord of lords, and King of kings; and they also shall overcome that are with him, called and chosen and faithful.

Essi combatteranno contro l'Agnello e l'Agnello li vincerà, perché egli è il Signore dei signori e il Re dei re; e coloro che sono con lui sono chiamati, eletti e fedeli».

15 A nd he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the harlot sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues.

Poi mi disse: «Le acque che hai visto, dove siede la meretrice, sono popoli, moltitudini, nazioni e lingue.

16 A nd the ten horns which thou sawest, and the beast, these shall hate the harlot, and shall make her desolate and naked, and shall eat her flesh, and shall burn her utterly with fire.

E le dieci corna che hai visto sulla bestia odieranno la meretrice, la renderanno desolata e la lasceranno nuda, mangeranno le sue carni e la bruceranno col fuoco.

17 F or God did put in their hearts to do his mind, and to come to one mind, and to give their kingdom unto the beast, until the words of God should be accomplished.

Dio infatti ha messo nei loro cuori di eseguire il suo disegno, di avere un unico pensiero e di dare il loro regno alla bestia finché siano adempiute le parole di Dio.

18 A nd the woman whom thou sawest is the great city, which reigneth over the kings of the earth.

E la donna che hai visto è la grande città che regna sui re della terra».
