1 W oe is me! for I am as when they have gathered the summer fruits, as the grape gleanings of the vintage: there is no cluster to eat; my soul desireth the first-ripe fig.

Guai a me! Poiché sono come quelli che raccolgono frutti estivi, come quelli che racimolano l'uva dell'annata: non c'è alcun grappolo da mangiare, la mia anima desidera un fico primaticcio.

2 T he godly man is perished out of the earth, and there is none upright among men: they all lie in wait for blood; they hunt every man his brother with a net.

L'uomo pio è scomparso dalla terra fra gli uomini non c'è piú gente retta, tutti stanno in agguato per versare sangue, ognuno dà la caccia al proprio fratello con la rete.

3 T heir hands are upon that which is evil to do it diligently; the prince asketh, and the judge is ready for a reward; and the great man, he uttereth the evil desire of his soul: thus they weave it together.

Entrambe le loro mani sono protese a fare il male con bravura; il principe pretende, il giudice cerca ricompense, il grande manifesta la sua cupidigia; cosí pervertono insieme la giustizia.

4 T he best of them is as a brier; the most upright is worse than a thorn hedge: the day of thy watchmen, even thy visitation, is come; now shall be their perplexity.

ll migliore di loro è come un roveto, il piú retto è peggiore di una siepe di spine. Il giorno della tua punizione viene; ora sarà la loro confusione.

5 T rust ye not in a neighbor; put ye not confidence in a friend; keep the doors of thy mouth from her that lieth in thy bosom.

Non fidatevi del compagno, non riponete fiducia nell'intimo amico; custodisci le porte della tua bocca davanti a colei che riposa sul tuo seno.

6 F or the son dishonoreth the father, the daughter riseth up against her mother, the daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law; a man's enemies are the men of his own house.

Poiché il figlio disonora il padre, la figlia insorge contro la madre, la nuora contro la suocera, i nemici di ognuno sono quelli di casa sua.

7 B ut as for me, I will look unto Jehovah; I will wait for the God of my salvation: my God will hear me.

Ma io guarderò all'Eterno, spererò nel DIO della mia salvezza; il mio DIO mi ascolterà.

8 R ejoice not against me, O mine enemy: when I fall, I shall arise; when I sit in darkness, Jehovah will be a light unto me.

Non rallegrarti di me, o mia nemica! Se sono caduta, mi rialzerò; se siedo nelle tenebre, l'Eterno sarà la mia luce.

9 I will bear the indignation of Jehovah, because I have sinned against him, until he plead my cause, and execute judgment for me: he will bring me forth to the light, and I shall behold his righteousness.

Io sopporterò l'indignazione dell'Eterno, perché ho peccato contro di lui, finché egli difenderà la mia causa e farà giustizia per me; egli mi farà uscire alla luce e io contemplerò la sua giustizia.

10 T hen mine enemy shall see it, and shame shall cover her who said unto me, Where is Jehovah thy God? Mine eyes shall see my desire upon her; now shall she be trodden down as the mire of the streets.

Allora la mia nemica lo vedrà e sarà coperta di vergogna, lei che mi diceva: «Dov'è l'Eterno, il tuo DIO?». I miei occhi la guarderanno con piacere, mentre sarà calpestata come il fango delle strade.

11 A day for building thy walls! in that day shall the decree be far removed.

Quando si ricostruiranno le tue mura, in quel giorno il tuo confine sarà grandemente esteso.

12 I n that day shall they come unto thee from Assyria and the cities of Egypt, and from Egypt even to the River, and from sea to sea, and from mountain to mountain.

In quel giorno verranno a te, dall'Assiria e dalle tue città fortificate, dalla città fortificata fino al Fiume, da mare a mare e da monte a monte.

13 Y et shall the land be desolate because of them that dwell therein, for the fruit of their doings.

Ma il paese sarà ridotto in desolazione a causa dei tuoi abitanti, a motivo del frutto delle loro azioni.

14 F eed thy people with thy rod, the flock of thy heritage, which dwell solitarily, in the forest in the midst of Carmel: let them feed in Bashan and Gilead, as in the days of old.

Pasci il tuo popolo con la tua verga, il gregge della tua eredità, che sta solitario nella foresta in mezzo al Karmel. Pascolino in Bashan e in Galaad, come nei tempi antichi.

15 A s in the days of thy coming forth out of the land of Egypt will I show unto them marvellous things.

«Come ai giorni in cui uscisti dal paese d'Egitto, io farò loro vedere cose meravigliose».

16 T he nations shall see and be ashamed of all their might; they shall lay their hand upon their mouth; their ears shall be deaf.

Le nazioni vedranno e si vergogneranno di tutta la loro potenza; si metteranno la mano sulla bocca, le loro orecchie rimarranno sorde.

17 T hey shall lick the dust like a serpent; like crawling things of the earth they shall come trembling out of their close places; they shall come with fear unto Jehovah our God, and shall be afraid because of thee.

Leccheranno la polvere come il serpente, come i rettili della terra, usciranno tremanti dai loro nascondigli; avranno paura dell'Eterno, il nostro DIO, e avranno timore di te.

18 W ho is a God like unto thee, that pardoneth iniquity, and passeth over the transgression of the remnant of his heritage? he retaineth not his anger for ever, because he delighteth in lovingkindness.

Qual Dio è come te, che perdona l'iniquità e passa sopra la trasgressione del residuo della sua eredità? Egli non conserva per sempre la sua ira, perché prende piacere nell'usare misericordia.

19 H e will again have compassion upon us; he will tread our iniquities under foot; and thou wilt cast all their sins into the depths of the sea.

Egli avrà nuovamente compassione di noi, calpesterà le nostre iniquità. Tu getterai in fondo al mare tutti i nostri peccati.

20 T hou wilt perform the truth to Jacob, and the lovingkindness to Abraham, which thou hast sworn unto our fathers from the days of old.

Tu mostrerai la tua fedeltà a Giacobbe e la tua misericordia ad Abrahamo, come hai giurato ai nostri padri fin dai tempi antichi.
