1 T he word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.

Parola che Isaia, figlio di Amots ebbe in visione riguardo a Giuda e a Gerusalemme.

2 A nd it shall come to pass in the latter days, that the mountain of Jehovah's house shall be established on the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it.

Negli ultimi giorni avverrà che il monte della casa dell'Eterno sarà stabilito in cima ai monti e si ergerà al di sopra dei colli, e ad esso affluiranno tutte le nazioni.

3 A nd many peoples shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of Jehovah, to the house of the God of Jacob; and he will teach us of his ways, and we will walk in his paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of Jehovah from Jerusalem.

Molti popoli verranno dicendo: «Venite, saliamo al monte dell'Eterno, alla casa del Dio di Giacobbe; egli ci insegnerà le sue vie e noi cammineremo nei suoi sentieri». Poiché da Sion uscirà la legge e da Gerusalemme la parola dell'Eterno.

4 A nd he will judge between the nations, and will decide concerning many peoples; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruning-hooks; nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.

Egli farà giustizia fra le nazioni e sgriderà molti popoli. Forgeranno le loro spade in vomeri e le loro lance in falci; una nazione non alzerà piú la spada contro un'altra nazione e non insegneranno piú la guerra.

5 O house of Jacob, come ye, and let us walk in the light of Jehovah.

O casa di Giacobbe, venite e camminiamo nella luce dell'Eterno!

6 F or thou hast forsaken thy people the house of Jacob, because they are filled with customs from the east, and are soothsayers like the Philistines, and they strike hands with the children of foreigners.

Poiché tu, o Eterno, hai abbandonato il tuo popolo, la casa di Giacobbe, perché sono pieni di pratiche orientali praticano la magia come i Filistei, stringono alleanze con i figli degli stranieri.

7 A nd their land is full of silver and gold, neither is there any end of their treasures; their land also is full of horses, neither is there any end of their chariots.

Il loro paese è pieno d'argento e d'oro e i loro tesori sono senza fine, il loro paese è pieno di cavalli e i loro carri sono senza fine.

8 T heir land also is full of idols; they worship the work of their own hands, that which their own fingers have made.

Il loro paese è pieno di idoli; si prostrano davanti all'opera delle loro stesse mani, davanti a ciò che le loro dita hanno fatto.

9 A nd the mean man is bowed down, and the great man is brought low: therefore forgive them not.

Perciò l'uomo comune è umiliato e l'uomo eminente è abbassato, ma tu non li perdoni.

10 E nter into the rock, and hide thee in the dust, from before the terror of Jehovah, and from the glory of his majesty.

Entra nella roccia e nasconditi nella polvere davanti al terrore dell'Eterno e davanti allo splendore della sua maestà.

11 T he lofty looks of man shall be brought low, and the haughtiness of men shall be bowed down, and Jehovah alone shall be exalted in that day.

Lo sguardo altero dell'uomo sarà abbassato e l'orgoglio dei mortali sarà umiliato; soltanto l'Eterno sarà esaltato in quel giorno.

12 F or there shall be a day of Jehovah of hosts upon all that is proud and haughty, and upon all that is lifted up; and it shall be brought low;

Poiché il giorno dell'Eterno degli eserciti verrà contro tutto ciò che è orgoglioso ed altero, e contro tutto ciò che si innalza, per abbassarlo,

13 a nd upon all the cedars of Lebanon, that are high and lifted up, and upon all the oaks of Bashan,

contro tutti i cedri del Libano, alti ed elevati, e contro tutte le querce di Bashan,

14 a nd upon all the high mountains, and upon all the hills that are lifted up,

contro tutti gli alti monti e contro tutti i colli elevati,

15 a nd upon every lofty tower, and upon every fortified wall,

contro ogni torre eccelsa e contro ogni muro fortificato,

16 a nd upon all the ships of Tarshish, and upon all pleasant imagery.

contro tutte le navi di Tarshish, e contro tutte le cose piacevoli.

17 A nd the loftiness of man shall be bowed down, and the haughtiness of men shall be brought low; and Jehovah alone shall be exalted in that day.

L'alterigia dell'uomo sarà abbassata e l'orgoglio degli uomini eminenti sarà umiliato; soltanto l'Eterno sarà esaltato in quel giorno.

18 A nd the idols shall utterly pass away.

Gli idoli saranno interamente aboliti.

19 A nd men shall go into the caves of the rocks, and into the holes of the earth, from before the terror of Jehovah, and from the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake mightily the earth.

Gli uomini entreranno nelle caverne delle rocce e negli antri della terra davanti al terrore dell'Eterno e allo splendore della sua maestà, quando si leverà per far tremare la terra.

20 I n that day men shall cast away their idols of silver, and their idols of gold, which have been made for them to worship, to the moles and to the bats;

In quel giorno gli uomini getteranno ai topi e ai pipistrelli i loro idoli d'argento e i loro idoli d'oro, che si erano fabbricati per adorarli,

21 t o go into the caverns of the rocks, and into the clefts of the ragged rocks, from before the terror of Jehovah, and from the glory of his majesty, when he ariseth to shake mightily the earth.

per entrare nelle fenditure delle rocce e nei crepacci delle rupi davanti al terrore dell'Eterno e davanti allo splendore della sua maestà, quando si leverà per far tremare la terra.

22 C ease ye from man, whose breath is in his nostrils; for wherein is he to be accounted of?

Cessate di confidare nell'uomo, nelle cui narici non c'è che un soffio: quale conto si può fare di lui?
