1 I n the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam began Abijah to reign over Judah.

فِي السَّنَةِ الثّامِنَةَ مِنْ حُكْمِ يَرُبْعامَ عَلَى إسْرائِيلَ، صارَ أبِيّا مَلِكاً عَلَى يَهُوذا.

2 T hree years reigned he in Jerusalem: and his mother's name was Micaiah the daughter of Uriel of Gibeah. And there was war between Abijah and Jeroboam.

وَقَدْ حَكَمَ أبِيّا فِي القُدسِ ثَلاثَ سَنَواتٍ. وَكانَتْ أُمُّهُ مِيخَايَا بِنتَ أُورِيئِيلَ الَّذِي مِنْ جِبْعَةَ. وَوَقَعَتْ حَربٌ بَينَ أبِيّا وَيَرُبْعامُ.

3 A nd Abijah joined battle with an army of valiant men of war, even four hundred thousand chosen men: and Jeroboam set the battle in array against him with eight hundred thousand chosen men, who were mighty men of valor.

وَقادَ أبِيّا جَيشَهُ المُؤَلَّفَ منْ أربَع مِئَةِ ألفِ جُندِيٍّ شُجاعٍ إلَى المَعرَكَةِ. وَاستَعَدَّ يَرُبْعامُ بِجَيشِهِ المُؤَلَّفِ منْ ثَمانِي مئَةِ ألفِ جُندِيٍّ شُجاعٍ لِمُواجَهَةِ أبِيّا.

4 A nd Abijah stood up upon mount Zemaraim, which is in the hill-country of Ephraim, and said, Hear me, O Jeroboam and all Israel:

ثُمَّ وَقَفَ أبيّا عَلَى جَبَلِ صَمارِيمَ فِي مِنطَقَةِ أفْرايِمَ الجَبَلِيَّةِ وَقالَ: «اسمَعُوني يا يَرُبْعامُ وَكُلَّ إسْرائِيلَ!

5 O ught ye not to know that Jehovah, the God of Israel, gave the kingdom over Israel to David for ever, even to him and to his sons by a covenant of salt?

يَنبَغِي أنْ تَعلَمُوا أنَّ اللهَ ، إلَهَ إسْرائِيلَ، أعطَى داوُدَ وَأبناءَهُ الحَقَّ فِي حُكمِ إسْرائِيلَ إلَى الأبَدِ. وَقَدْ أعطَى اللهُ داوُدَ هَذا الحَقَّ بعَهْدِ مِلحٍ.

6 Y et Jeroboam the son of Nebat, the servant of Solomon the son of David, rose up, and rebelled against his lord.

غَيرَ أنَّ يَرُبْعامَ تَمَرَّدَ عَلَى سَيِّدِهِ! وَقَدْ كانَ يَرُبْعامُ بْنُ نَباطَ أحَدَ خُدّامِ سُلَيْمانَ بْنِ داوُدَ.

7 A nd there were gathered unto him worthless men, base fellows, that strengthened themselves against Rehoboam the son of Solomon, when Rehoboam was young and tender-hearted, and could not withstand them.

وَقَدْ صَادَقَ جَماعَةً مِنَ الرّجال البَطّالِينَ الأشْرارِ. فَانقَلَبَ يَرُبْعامُ وَهَؤُلاءِ الرِّجالُ عَلَى رَحُبْعامَ بْنِ سُلَيْمانَ. وَكانَ رَحُبْعامُ شابّاً قَلِيلَ الخِبرَةِ، فَلَمْ يَقدرْ أنْ يَتَصَدَّى ليَرُبْعامَ وَرِفاقِهِ الأشْرارِ.

8 A nd now ye think to withstand the kingdom of Jehovah in the hand of the sons of David; and ye are a great multitude, and there are with you the golden calves which Jeroboam made you for gods.

«وَالآنَ أنتُمْ تَقُولُونَ إنَّكُمْ قادِرُونَ عَلَى إلْحاقِ الهَزِيمَةِ بِمَملَكَةِ اللهِ الَّتِي يَحكُمُها أبناءُ داوُدَ. مَعَكُمْ جُنُودٌ كَثيرُونَ وَتَماثيلُ العُجُولِ الذَّهَبِيَّةِ هَذهِ الَّتِي صَنَعَها يَرُبْعامُ لِتَكُونَ لَكُمْ آلِهَةً!

9 H ave ye not driven out the priests of Jehovah, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites, and made you priests after the manner of the peoples of other lands? so that whosoever cometh to consecrate himself with a young bullock and seven rams, the same may be a priest of them that are no gods.

لَقَدْ طَرَدْتُمْ كَهَنَةَ اللهِ ، أبناءَ هارُونَ، وَطَرَدْتُمُ الَّلاوِيّينَ ثُمَّ اختَرْتُمْ كَهَنَةً لَكُمْ، كَأيَّةِ أُمَّةٍ أُخْرَى عَلَى الأرْضِ. فَصارَ بِإمْكانِ كُلِّ مَنْ يَجلِبُ عِجلاً وَسَبْعَ كِباشٍ أنْ يَصِيرَ كاهناً يَخدِمُ ما لَيسَ آلِهَةً!

10 B ut as for us, Jehovah is our God, and we have not forsaken him; and we have priests ministering unto Jehovah, the sons of Aaron, and the Levites in their work:

أمّا نَحنُ، فَيهوه هُوَ إلَهُنا. وَنَحنُ شَعبَ يَهُوذا لَمْ نَعْصَ شَرِيعَةَ اللهِ، وَلَمْ نَترُكْهُ! وَالكَهَنَةُ الَّذِينَ يَخدِمُونَ هُمْ أبناءُ هارُونَ. وَالَّلاوِيُّونَ يُساعِدُونَ الكَهَنَةَ فِي خدمَةِ اللهِ.

11 a nd they burn unto Jehovah every morning and every evening burnt-offerings and sweet incense: the showbread also set they in order upon the pure table; and the candlestick of gold with the lamps thereof, to burn every evening: for we keep the charge of Jehovah our God; but ye have forsaken him.

وَهُمْ يُقَدِّمُونَ ذَبائِحَ صاعِدَةً للهِ وَيُوقدُونَ بَخُوراً طَيِّباً لَهُ كُلَّ صَباحٍ وَمَساءٍ. وَيُرَتِّبُونَ الخُبزَ عَلَى المائِدَةِ الذَّهَبِيَّةِ. وَيَعتَنُونَ بسُرُجِ المَنارَةِ الذَّهَبِيَّةِ لِكَي تُضِيءَ كُلَّ مَساءٍ. نَحْنُ نَحْفَظُ خِدمَةَ إلَهِنا. وَأمّا أنتُمْ، فَقَدْ هَجَرْتُمُوهُ!

12 A nd, behold, God is with us at our head, and his priests with the trumpets of alarm to sound an alarm against you. O children of Israel, fight ye not against Jehovah, the God of your fathers; for ye shall not prosper.

وَها هُوَ اللهُ مَعَنا. إنَّهُ رَئِيسُنا. وَكَهَنَتُهُ مَعَنا أيضاً لِيَنفُخُوا أبواقَهُ لِكَي تَستَيقِظُوا وَتُسرِعُوا إلَى المَجِيءٍ إلَيهِ! فَيا رِجالَ إسْرائِيلَ، لا تُحارِبُوا اللهَ ، إلَهَ آبائِكُمْ. فَلَنْ تَنجَحُوا!»

13 B ut Jeroboam caused an ambushment to come about behind them: so they were before Judah, and the ambushment was behind them.

لَكِنَّ يَرُبْعامَ أرسَلَ مَجمُوعَةً مِنْ جُنُودِهِ لتَتَسَلَّلَ خَلفَ جَيشِ أبيّا. فَكانَ جَيشُ يَرُبْعامَ مُواجِهاً لِجَيش أبِيّا، أمّا الجُنُودُ المُتَسَلِّلُونَ فَخَلفَ جَيشِ أبِيّا.

14 A nd when Judah looked back, behold, the battle was before and behind them; and they cried unto Jehovah, and the priests sounded with the trumpets.

فَلَمّا التَفَتَ جُنُودُ أبيّا، رَأَوْا جَيشَ يَرُبْعامَ يُهاجِمُهُمْ مِنَ الأمامِ وَمِنَ الخَلفِ. فَاسْتَنجَدَ رِجالُ يَهُوذا بِاللهِ ، وَنَفَخَ الكَهَنَةُ أبواقَهُمْ.

15 T hen the men of Judah gave a shout: and as the men of Judah shouted, it came to pass, that God smote Jeroboam and all Israel before Abijah and Judah.

ثُمَّ هَتَفَ الرِّجالُ فِي جَيشِ أبِيّا هُتافَ الحَرْبِ. وَعِندَ ذَلِكَ هَزَمَ اللهُ جَيشَ يَرُبْعامَ. هَزَمَ جَيشُ يَهُوذا بِقِيادَةِ أبِيّا كُلَّ جَيشِ إسْرائِيلَ بِقِيادَةِ يَرُبْعامَ.

16 A nd the children of Israel fled before Judah; and God delivered them into their hand.

فَهَرَبَ رِجالُ إسْرائِيلَ مِنْ رِجالِ يَهُوذا. وَنَصَرَ اللهُ جَيشَ يَهُوذا عَلَى جَيشِ إسْرائِيلَ.

17 A nd Abijah and his people slew them with a great slaughter: so there fell down slain of Israel five hundred thousand chosen men.

وَألحَقَ جَيشُ أبِيّا بِجَيشِ إسْرائِيلَ هَزِيمَةً شَديدَةً، وَقُتِلَ خَمسُ مِئَةِ ألفٍ منْ خِيارِ رِجالِ إسْرائِيلَ.

18 T hus the children of Israel were brought under at that time, and the children of Judah prevailed, because they relied upon Jehovah, the God of their fathers.

وَهَكَذا هُزِمَ بَنُو إسْرائِيلَ فِي ذَلِكَ اليَومِ وَانتَصَرَ جَيشُ يَهُوذا، لأنَّهُمُ اتَّكَلُوا عَلَى اللهِ ، إلَهِ آبائِهِمْ.

19 A nd Abijah pursued after Jeroboam, and took cities from him, Beth-el with the towns thereof, and Jeshanah with the towns thereof, and Ephron with the towns thereof.

وَطارَدَ جَيشُ أبِيّا الهارِبِينَ مِنْ جَيشِ يَرُبْعامَ. وَاسْتَولَى جَيْشُ أبِيّا عَلَى مُدُنِ بَيْتَ إيلَ وَيَشانَةَ عَفْرُونَ مَعَ القُرَى التّابعَةِ لَهَذِهِ المُدُنِ.

20 N either did Jeroboam recover strength again in the days of Abijah: and Jehovah smote him, and he died.

وَلَمْ يَرفَعْ يَرُبْعامُ رَأْسَهُ مَرَّةً أُخْرَى فِي عَهدِ أبِيّا. وَأماتَ اللهُ يَرُبْعامَ.

21 B ut Abijah waxed mighty, and took unto himself fourteen wives, and begat twenty and two sons, and sixteen daughters.

أمّا أبِيّا فَتَقَوَّى وَتَزَوَّجَ مِنْ أربَعَ عَشْرَةَ امْرأةً وَأنجَبَ اثْنَينِ وَعِشرِينَ ابناً وَسِتَّ عَشْرَةَ بِنْتاً.

22 A nd the rest of the acts of Abijah, and his ways, and his sayings, are written in the commentary of the prophet Iddo.

أمّا بَقِيَّةُ أعْمالِ أبِيّا، فَهِيَ مُدَوَّنَةٌ فِي كُتُبِ النَّبيّ عِدُّو.
