1 B ut I say that so long as the heir is a child, he differeth nothing from a bondservant though he is lord of all;

وَلَكِنِّي أقُولُ: ما دامَ الوارِثُ طِفلاً، فَهُوَ لا يَختَلِفُ عَنِ العَبْدِ، رَغْمَ أنَّهُ يَملِكُ كُلَّ شَيءٍ.

2 b ut is under guardians and stewards until the day appointed of the father.

فَهُوَ خاضِعٌ لِلأوصِياءِ وَالوُكَلاءِ، حَتَّى الوَقْتِ الَّذِي عَيَّنَهُ أبُوهُ.

3 S o we also, when we were children, were held in bondage under the rudiments of the world:

وَهَكَذا نَحنُ أيضاً، عِندَما كُنّا أطفالاً، كُنّا عَبِيداً لِقَوانِينِ هَذا العالَمْ.

4 b ut when the fulness of the time came, God sent forth his Son, born of a woman, born under the law,

وَلَكِنْ عِندَما جاءَ الوَقْتُ المُناسِبُ، أرسَلَ اللهُ ابْنَهُ الَّذِي وُلِدَ مِنَ امْرأةٍ وَعاشَ خاضِعاً لِلشَّرِيعَةِ.

5 t hat he might redeem them that were under the law, that we might receive the adoption of sons.

وَذَلِكَ لِكَي يُحَرِّرَ مَنْ هُمْ تَحتَ الشَّرِيعَةِ، فَنَصِيرَ أولاداً للهِ بِالتَّبَنِّي.

6 A nd because ye are sons, God sent forth the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, Abba, Father.

وَلِأنَّكُمْ أولادُ اللهِ، أرسَلَ اللهُ رُوحَ ابْنِهِ إلَى قُلُوبِنا مُنادِياً: «بابا،» أي «أيُّها الآبُ.»

7 S o that thou art no longer a bondservant, but a son; and if a son, then an heir through God.

إذاً أنتَ لَسْتَ عَبْداً بَعْدَ الآنِ، وَلَكِنَّكَ ابْنٌ. وَلِأنَّكَ ابْنٌ، فَقَدْ جَعَلَكَ اللهُ وَارِثاً. مَحَبَّةُ بُولُسَ لِمُؤْمِنِي غَلاطِيَّة

8 H owbeit at that time, not knowing God, ye were in bondage to them that by nature are no gods:

فِي الماضِي، عِندَما كُنْتُمْ لا تَعرِفُونَ اللهَ، كُنتُمْ عَبِيداً لِآلِهَةٍ مُزَيَّفَةٍ.

9 b ut now that ye have come to know God, or rather to be known by God, how turn ye back again to the weak and beggarly rudiments, whereunto ye desire to be in bondage over again?

أمّا الآنَ فَأنتُمْ تَعرِفُونَ اللهَ الحَقيقيّ، أوْ بِالأصَحِّ، أصبَحْتُمْ مَعرُوفِينَ مِنَ اللهِ. فَكَيفَ تَعُودُونَ إلَى مِثلِ تِلْكَ المَبادِئِ الضَّعِيفَةِ وَعَدِيمَةِ الفائِدَةِ الَّتِي تُرِيدُونَ أنْ تُسْتَعْبَدوا لَها مُجَدَّداً؟

10 Y e observe days, and months, and seasons, and years.

تَحتَفِلُونَ بِأيّامٍ وَشُهُورٍ وَمَواسِمَ وَسِنِينَ.

11 I am afraid of you, lest by any means I have bestowed labor upon you in vain.

أخافُ عَلَيكُمْ! أخافُ أنَّ تَعَبِي عَلَيكُمْ كانَ بِلا فائِدَةٍ!

12 I beseech you, brethren, become as I am, for I also am become as ye are. Ye did me no wrong:

أتَوَسَّلُ إلَيكُمْ أيُّها الإخوَةُ أنْ تَكُونُوا مِثلِي، كَما أنِّي مِثلُكُمْ. أنتُمْ لَمْ تُسيئُوا إلَيَّ بِشَيءٍ.

13 b ut ye know that because of an infirmity of the flesh I preached the gospel unto you the first time:

عَلِمْتُمْ أنَّنِي كُنْتُ مَرِيضاً عِنْدَما زُرْتُكُمْ مُبَشِّراً فِي زِيارَتِي الأُولَى.

14 a nd that which was a temptation to you in my flesh ye despised not, nor rejected; but ye received me as an angel of God, even as Christ Jesus.

وَمَعْ أنَّ حالَتِي الصِّحِّيَّةَ كانَتْ مِحنَةً بِالنِّسْبَةِ لَكُمْ، إلّا أنَّكُمْ لَمْ تَحتَقِرُونِي أوْ تَرفُضُونِي، بَلْ قَبِلْتُمُونِي كَما لَو كُنْتُ مَلاكَ اللهِ، وَكَأنِّي المَسِيحُ يَسُوعَ!

15 W here then is that gratulation of yourselves? for I bear you witness, that, if possible, ye would have plucked out your eyes and given them to me.

فَأينَ ذَهَبَ مَدْحُكُمْ لِي؟ فَإنِّي أشهَدُ عَنْكُمْ بِأنَّكُمْ، لَو استَطَعْتُمْ، لَقَلَعْتُمْ عُيُونَكُمْ وَقَدَّمْتُمُوها لِي.

16 S o then am I become your enemy, by telling you the truth?

فَهَلْ صِرْتُ عَدُوّاً لَكُمْ لِأنِّي أخبَرْتُكُمْ بِالحَقِّ؟

17 T hey zealously seek you in no good way; nay, they desire to shut you out, that ye may seek them.

إنَّ الَّذِينَ يُرِيدُونَكُمْ أنْ تَخضَعُوا لِلشَّرِيعَةِ مُتَحَمِّسُونَ لِهَدَفٍ سَيِّئٍ، وَهُوَ أنْ يَفصِلُوكُمْ عَنّا، حَتَّى تَتَحَمَّسُوا لَهُمْ.

18 B ut it is good to be zealously sought in a good matter at all times, and not only when I am present with you.

وَلَكِنْ مِنَ الجَيِّدِ لِلإنسانِ أنْ يَتَحَمَّسَ فِي الأُمُورِ الجَيِّدَةِ دائِماً، وَلَيسَ فَقَطْ عِندَما أكُونُ حاضِراً مَعَكُمْ.

19 M y little children, of whom I am again in travail until Christ be formed in you--

يا أولادِي، ها أنا أتَألَّمُ الآنَ لأجلِكُمْ ثانِيَةً، كَما تَتَألَّمُ المَرأةُ عِنْدَ الوِلادَةِ، إلَى أنْ تُصبِحُوا مُشابِهِينَ لِصُورَةِ المَسِيحِ.

20 b ut I could wish to be present with you now, and to change my tone; for I am perplexed about you.

أوَدُّ لَو أنِّي مَعَكُمُ الآنَ لِأتَحَدَّثَ إلَيكُمْ بِطَرِيقَةٍ مُختَلِفَةٍ، لِأنَّنِي مُحتارٌ فِي كَيفيةِ التَّعامُلِ مَعَكُمْ. مَثَلُ هاجَرَ وَسارَة

21 T ell me, ye that desire to be under the law, do ye not hear the law?

أخبِرُونِي أنتُمْ يا مَنْ تُرِيدُونَ أنْ تَكُونُوا تَحتَ الشَّرِيعَةِ، ألا تَسمَعُونَ ما تَقُولُهُ الشَّرِيعَةُ؟

22 F or it is written, that Abraham had two sons, one by the handmaid, and one by the freewoman.

فَإنَّهُ مَكتُوبٌ أنَّ إبْراهِيمَ كانَ لَهُ ابْنانِ: واحِدٌ مِنَ الجارِيَةِ، وَالآخَرُ مِنَ الحُرَّةِ.

23 H owbeit the son by the handmaid is born after the flesh; but the son by the freewoman is born through promise.

فَالَّذِي أنجَبَتْهُ الجارِيَةُ وُلِدَ بِطَرِيقَةٍ طَبِيعِيَّةٍ، أمّا الَّذِي أنجَبَتْهُ الحُرَّةُ فَقَدْ وُلِدَ بِوَعْدٍ مِنَ اللهِ.

24 W hich things contain an allegory: for these women are two covenants; one from mount Sinai, bearing children unto bondage, which is Hagar.

وَلِذَلِكَ مَعنَىً رَمزِيٌّ. فَهاتانِ المَرأتانِ تَرمُزانِ إلَى عَهدَينِ: الأوَّلِ مِنْ جَبَلِ سِيناءَ، وَيَكُونُ المَولُودُ فِيهِ تَحتَ العُبُودِيَّةِ، وَهُوَ ما تُمَثِّلُهُ هاجَرُ.

25 N ow this Hagar is mount Sinai in Arabia and answereth to the Jerusalem that now is: for she is in bondage with her children.

وَهاجَرُ تُمَثِّلُ جَبَلَ سِيناءَ فِي أرْضِ العَرَبِ. وَهِيَ صُورَةٌ عَنِ القُدسِ الحالِيَّةِ، لِأنَّها تَحتَ عُبُودِيَّةِ الشَّرِيعَةِ هِيَ وَأولادَها.

26 B ut the Jerusalem that is above is free, which is our mother.

أمّا العَهدُ الثّانِي فَمِنَ القُدْسِ السَّماوِيَّةِ الحُرَّةِ، وَهِيَ أُمُّنا.

27 F or it is written, Rejoice, thou barren that bearest not; Break forth and cry, thou that travailest not: For more are the children of the desolate than of her that hath the husband.

كَما هُوَ مَكتُوبٌ: «افرَحِي أيَّتُها العاقِرُ الَّتِي لا تَلِدُ، اهتِفِي بِأعلَى صَوتِكِ يا مَنْ لَمْ تَعْرِفِي آلامَ الوِلادَةِ. لِأنَّ أولادَ المَرأةِ المَهجُورَةِ سَيَكُونُونَ أكثَرَ عَدَداً مِنْ أولادِ المُتُزَوِّجَةِ.»

28 N ow we, brethren, as Isaac was, are children of promise.

وَالآنَ أيُّها الإخوَةُ، أنتُمْ أولادُ الوَعدِ كَإسْحَقَ.

29 B ut as then he that was born after the flesh persecuted him that was born after the Spirit, so also it is now.

وَلَكِنْ كَما كانَ فِي تِلْكَ الأيّامِ، فَإنَّ المَولُودَ بِطَرِيقَةٍ طَبِيعِيَّةٍ، أساءَ إلَى المَولُودِ بِحَسَبِ الرُّوحِ، وَهَذا ما يَحدُثُ الآنَ.

30 H owbeit what saith the scripture? Cast out the handmaid and her son: for the son of the handmaid shall not inherit with the son of the freewoman.

وَلَكِنْ ماذا يَقُولُ الكِتابُ؟ يَقُولُ: «اطْرُدِ الجارِيَةَ وَابْنَها بَعِيداً، لِأنَّ ابْنَ الجارِيَةِ لَنْ يَرِثَ مَعَ ابْنِ الحُرَّةِ.»

31 W herefore, brethren, we are not children of a handmaid, but of the freewoman.

لِهَذا أيُّها الإخوَةُ، نَحنُ لَسْنا أولادَ الجارِيَةِ، بَلْ أولادَ الحُرَّةِ.
