1 A nd Dinah the daughter of Leah, whom she bare unto Jacob, went out to see the daughters of the land.

وَخَرَجَتْ دِينَةُ ابْنَةُ لَيئَةَ وَيَعقُوبَ لِتَرَى بَناتِ تِلْكَ المَنطَقَةِ.

2 A nd Shechem the son of Hamor the Hivite, the prince of the land, saw her; And he took her, and lay with her, and humbled her.

فَرَآها شَكِيمُ بْنِ حَمُورَ، رَئِيسَ تِلْكَ المَنطَقَةِ، فَأمْسَكَ بِها وَاغتَصَبَها.

3 A nd his soul clave unto Dinah the daughter of Jacob, and he loved the damsel, and spake kindly unto the damsel.

لَكِنَّهُ تَعَلَّقَ بِدِينَةَ ابْنَةِ يَعقُوبَ. أحَبَّ الفَتاةَ وَكانَ رَقِيقاً مَعَها.

4 A nd Shechem spake unto his father Hamor, saying, Get me this damsel to wife.

فَقالَ شَكِيمُ لِأبِيهِ حَمُورَ: «زَوِّجْنِي مِنْ هَذِهِ البِنْتِ!»

5 N ow Jacob heard that he had defiled Dinah his daughter; and his sons were with his cattle in the field: and Jacob held his peace until they came.

وَسَمِعَ يَعقُوبُ أنَّ شَكِيمَ اعتَدَى عَلَى ابْنَتِهِ دِينَةَ. وَكانَ أولادُهُ مَعَ الماشِيَةِ فِي الحَقلِ، فانتَظَرَ إلَى أنْ يَأْتُوا.

6 A nd Hamor the father of Shechem went out unto Jacob to commune with him.

وَخَرَجَ حَمُورُ، أبو شَكِيمَ، إلَى يَعقُوبَ لِيَتَكَلَّمَ مَعَهُ.

7 A nd the sons of Jacob came in from the field when they heard it: and the men were grieved, and they were very wroth, because he had wrought folly in Israel in lying with Jacob's daughter; which thing ought not to be done.

وَفِي هَذا الوَقْتِ، رَجِعَ أولادُ يَعقُوبَ مِنَ الحَقلِ. فَلَمّا سَمِعُوا بِما حَدَثَ، اشْتَدَّ غَضَبُهُمْ وَسَخَطُهُمْ، إذْ فَعَلَ شَكِيمُ أمراً مُشِيناً فِي إسْرائِيلَ بِاغْتِصابِ ابْنَةِ يَعقُوبَ. فَما كانَ يَنبَغِي لِمِثلِ هَذا أنْ يَحْدُثَ.

8 A nd Hamor communed with them, saying, The soul of my son Shechem longeth for your daughter: I pray you, give her unto him to wife.

فَقالَ حَمُورُ لَهُمْ: «قَدْ تَعَلَّقَ قَلبُ ابْنِي شَكِيمُ بِابْنَتِكُمْ، فَزَوِّجُوها لَهُ.

9 A nd make ye marriages with us; give your daughters unto us, and take our daughters unto you.

صاهِرُونا. زَوِّجُونا مِنْ بَناتِكُمْ، وَتَزَوَّجُوا مِنْ بَناتِنا.

10 A nd ye shall dwell with us: and the land shall be before you; dwell and trade ye therein, and get you possessions therein.

وَاسْتَقِرُّوا بَينَنا. فَالأرْضُ مَفْتُوحَةٌ أمامَكُمْ. اسْتَقِرُّوا وَتاجِرُوا وَتَمَلَّكُوا أراضِيَ فِيها.»

11 A nd Shechem said unto her father and unto her brethren, Let me find favor in your eyes, and what ye shall say unto me I will give.

وَقالَ شَكِيمُ لِأبِيها وَإخوَتِها: «اقْبَلُونِي، وَسَأُعطِيكُمْ ما تَطلُبُونَ.

12 A sk me never so much dowry and gift, and I will give according as ye shall say unto me: but give me the damsel to wife.

ارفَعُوا قِيمَةَ المَهْرِ وَالهَدايا بِقَدْرِ ما شِئْتُمْ، وَسَأُعطِيكُمْ كُلَّ ما تَأْمُرُونَنِي بِهِ، لَكِنْ زَوِّجُونِي مِنَ البِنتِ.»

13 A nd the sons of Jacob answered Shechem and Hamor his father with guile, and spake, because he had defiled Dinah their sister,

فَأجابَ أولادُ يَعقُوبَ شَكِيمَ وَأباهُ حَمُورَ بِطَرِيقَةٍ ماكِرَةٍ، لِأنَّهُ اعتَدَى عَلَى أُختِهِمْ.

14 a nd said unto them, We cannot do this thing, to give our sister to one that is uncircumcised; for that were a reproach unto us.

قالُوا لَهُمْ: «لا نَقْدِرُ أنْ نَفعَلَ هَذا الأمْرَ. لا يُمكِنُنا أنْ نُزَوِّجَ أُختَنا مِنْ رَجُلٍ غَيرِ مَختُونٍ، فَهَذا عارٌ لَنا.

15 O nly on this condition will we consent unto you: if ye will be as we are, that every male of you be circumcised;

فَلا نُوافِقَكُمْ عَلَى طَلَبِكُمْ إلّا بِشَرطٍ، وَهُوَ أنْ تُصبِحُوا مِثلَنا بِأنْ تَختِنُوا كُلَّ ذَكَرٍ بَينَكُمْ.

16 t hen will we give our daughters unto you, and we will take your daughters to us, and we will dwell with you, and we will become one people.

حِينَئِذٍ، سَنُزَوِّجُكُمْ مِنْ بَناتِنا، وَسَنَتَزَوَّجُ مِنْ بَناتِكُمْ، وَسَنَسْتَقِرُّ بَينَكُمْ، وَنُصْبِحُ شَعباً واحِداً.

17 B ut if ye will not hearken unto us, to be circumcised; then will we take our daughter, and we will be gone.

لَكِنْ إذا لَمْ تَستَمِعُوا لَنا وَتَختَتِنُوا، فَسَنَأْخُذُ ابْنَتَنا وَنَرْحَلُ.»

18 A nd their words pleased Hamor, and Shechem Hamor's son.

فَاسْتَحْسَنَ حَمُورُ وَشَكِيمُ هَذا الكَلامَ.

19 A nd the young man deferred not to do the thing, because he had delight in Jacob's daughter: and he was honored above all the house of his father.

وَلَمْ يَتَرَدَّدِ الشّابُّ فِي فِعلِ ما طُلِبَ مِنْهُ، لِأنَّهُ فُتِنَ بِابْنَةِ يَعقُوبَ. وَكانَ شَكِيمُ ذا شأنٍ كَبيرٍ فِي بَيتِ أبِيهِ.

20 A nd Hamor and Shechem his son came unto the gate of their city, and communed with the men of their city, saying,

فَذَهَبَ حَمُورُ وَابْنُهُ شَكِيمُ إلَى بَوّابَةِ مَدِينَتِهِما. وَقالا لِرِجالِ المَدِينَةِ:

21 T hese men are peaceable with us; therefore let them dwell in the land, and trade therein; for, behold, the land is large enough for them; let us take their daughters to us for wives, and let us give them our daughters.

«هَؤُلاءِ الرِّجالُ طَيِّبُونَ مَعَنا. فَلْنَدَعْهُمْ يَسْتَقِرُّونَ فِي الأرْضِ وَيُتاجِرُونَ فِيها. فَها الأرْضُ تَتَّسِعُ لَهُمْ وَلَنا. وَلْنَتَزَوَّجْ مِنْ بَناتِهِمْ، وَلْنُزَوِّجهُمْ مِنْ بَناتِنا.

22 O nly on this condition will the men consent unto us to dwell with us, to become one people, if every male among us be circumcised, as they are circumcised.

غَيرَ أنَّ لِهَؤُلاءِ القَوْمِ شَرْطاً لِكَي يَسْتَقِرُّوا بَينَنا، وَيَكُونُوا شَعباً واحِداً مَعَنا. وَهُوَ أنْ يُختَتَنَ كُلُّ ذَكَرٍ مِنّا مِثلَهُمْ.

23 S hall not their cattle and their substance and all their beasts be ours? only let us consent unto them, and they will dwell with us.

سَتَكُونُ قُطْعانُهُمْ وَأملاكُهُمْ وَجَمِيعُ حَيواناتِهِمْ لَنا. لَكِنْ يَنبَغِي أنْ نُوافِقَ عَلَى شَرْطِهِمْ لِيَسْتَقِرُّوا بَينَنا.»

24 A nd unto Hamor and unto Shechem his son hearkened all that went out of the gate of his city; and every male was circumcised, all that went out of the gate of his city.

فَوافَقَ جَمِيعُ أهلُ المَدِينَةِ حَمُورَ وَابْنَهُ شَكِيمَ عَلَى رَأْيِهِما. وَاختَتَنَ كُلُّ ذَكَرٍ مِنْ أهلِ المَدِينَةِ.

25 A nd it came to pass on the third day, when they were sore, that two of the sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, Dinah's brethren, took each man his sword, and came upon the city unawares, and slew all the males.

وَفِي اليَوْمِ الثّالِثِ كانَ رِجالُ المَدِينَةِ فِي ألَمٍ شَدِيدٍ. فَأخَذَ ابْنا يَعقُوبَ، شَمْعُونَ وَلاوِي، أخَوا دِينَةَ سَيفَيهِما، وَهاجَما أهلَ المَدِينَةِ السُّقَماءَ بِجَسارَةٍ. وَذَبَحا كُلَّ ذَكَرٍ فِيها.

26 A nd they slew Hamor and Shechem his son with the edge of the sword, and took Dinah out of Shechem's house, and went forth.

وَقَتَلا حَمُورَ وَابْنَهُ شَكِيمَ أيضاً. وَأخَذا دِينَةَ مِنْ بَيتِ شَكِيمَ، وَمَضَيا.

27 T he sons of Jacob came upon the slain, and plundered the city, because they had defiled their sister.

وَأتَى أبناءُ يَعقُوبَ الآخَرُونَ عَلَى جُثَثِ القَتلِى، وَنَهَبُوا المَدِينَةَ، لِأنَّ شَكِيمَ اعتَدَى عَلَى أُختِهِمْ.

28 T hey took their flocks and their herds and their asses, and that which was in the city, and that which was in the field;

وَأخَذُوا ماشِيَتَهُمْ وَبَقَرَهُمْ وَحَمِيرَهُمْ وَكُلَّ ما كانَ فِي المَدِينَةِ وَفِي الحُقُولِ.

29 a nd all their wealth, and all their little ones and their wives, took they captive and made a prey, even all that was in the house.

سَبَوا وَأخَذُوا كُلَّ ثَرْوَتِهِمْ وَنِسائِهِمْ وَأبْنائِهِمْ، وَكُلَّ ما فِي بُيُوتِهِمْ.

30 A nd Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, Ye have troubled me, to make me odious to the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites: and, I being few in number, they will gather themselves together against me and smite me; and I shall be destroyed, I and my house.

فَقالَ يَعقُوبُ لِشَمْعُونَ وَلاوِي: «لَقَدْ أزْعَجْتُمانِي إذْ صِرْتُ مَكرُوهاً بَينَ قاطِنِي هَذِهِ البِلادِ مِنَ الكَنعانِيِّينَ وَالفِرِزِّيِّينَ. أنا وَعائِلَتِي قِلَّةٌ. لِهَذا أخشَى أنْ يَجتَمِعُوا عَلَينا، وَأنْ يُهاجِمُونا، فَيُدَمِّرُونا أنا وَأهلَ بَيتِي.»

31 A nd they said, Should he deal with our sister as with a harlot?

فَقالا لَهُ: «أكانَ يُفْتَرَضُ فِينا أنْ نَرضَى أنْ تُعامَلَ أُختُنا كَساقِطَةٍ؟»
