1 A nd again the anger of Jehovah was kindled against Israel, and he moved David against them, saying, Go, number Israel and Judah.

وَاشتَعَلَ غَضَبُ اللهِ مِنْ إسْرائِيل مجدَّداً، فَدَفَعَ داوُدَ ضِدَّ بَنِي إسْرائِيلَ وَقالَ لَهُ: «اذْهَبْ وَاحْصِ بَنِي إسْرائِيلَ وَبَنِي يُهُوذا.»

2 A nd the king said to Joab the captain of the host, who was with him, Go now to and fro through all the tribes of Israel, from Dan even to Beer-sheba, and number ye the people, that I may know the sum of the people.

فَقالَ الملِكُ داوُدُ ليوآبَ قائدِ الجَيشِ: «جُلْ فِي كافَّةَ عائِلاتِ إسْرائِيل مِنْ دانَ إلَى بِئْرِ السَّبْعِ، وَأحْصِ النّاسَ. حينئِذٍ، سَأعْرِفٌ عَدَدَ الشَّعبِ.»

3 A nd Joab said unto the king, Now Jehovah thy God add unto the people, how many soever they may be, a hundredfold; and may the eyes of my lord the king see it: but why doth my lord the king delight in this thing?

لَكِنَّ يُوآبَ قالَ: «لَيتَ إلَهَكَ يَزِيدُ عَدَدَ الشَّعبِ مِئَةَ ضِعْفٍ. يا مَولايَ المَلِكُ، ألَيسُوا كُلُّهُمْ خُدّامَكَ؟ فَلِماذا تُرِيدُ أنْ تَفْعَلَ هَذا؟ وَلِماذا يَكُونُ سَبَبَ ذَنْبٍ لإسْرائِيلَ؟»

4 N otwithstanding, the king's word prevailed against Joab, and against the captains of the host. And Joab and the captains of the host went out from the presence of the king, to number the people of Israel.

لَكِنَّ الملِكَ داوُدَ فَرَضَ أوامِرَهُ عَلَى يوآبَ وقادةِ الجيشِ. فَخرجوا مِنْ حَضْرةِ المَلِكِ ليُحْصُوا بَنِي إسْرائِيلَ.

5 A nd they passed over the Jordan, and encamped in Aroer, on the right side of the city that is in the middle of the valley of Gad, and unto Jazer:

وعبروا نهرَ الأردنِّ ونصبوا خِيَمَهُم في عروعير، إلَى الجانبِ الأيمنِ منَ المدينةِ – تَقَعُ المَدينَةُ في وسط وادِي جاد عَلَى الطَّريقِ المُؤَدِّيَةِ إلَى يعزير.

6 t hen they came to Gilead, and to the land of Tahtim-hodshi; and they came to Dan-jaan, and round about to Sidon,

ثمَّ ذهبوا شرقاً إلَى جلعاد عبرَ الطّريقِ المُؤَدِّيَةِ إلَى أرْضِ تحتيم حُدشي. ثمَّ شمالاً إلَى دان ياعن ومن حولِ صيدا.

7 a nd came to the stronghold of Tyre, and to all the cities of the Hivites, and of the Canaanites; and they went out to the south of Judah, at Beer-sheba.

ثُمَّ إلَى حِصنِ صُورَ وَعَبْرَ كافَّةِ مُدنِ الحُوِّيّين وَالكنعانيّين. ثُمَّ جَنُوباً إلَى بئرِ سَبْعَ في الجُزْءِ الجنوبِيِّ من يَهُوَّذا.

8 S o when they had gone to and from through all the land, they came to Jerusalem at the end of nine months and twenty days.

فَاسْتَغْرَقهُمُ الأمرُ تِسعَةَ أشْهُرٍ وَعِشرينَ يَوْماً لِيَجتازُوا هَذِهِ البِلادَ كُلَّها. وَعادُوا بَعْدَ ذَلِكَ إلَى مَدينَةِ القُدْسِ.

9 A nd Joab gave up the sum of the numbering of the people unto the king: and there were in Israel eight hundred thousand valiant men that drew the sword; and the men of Judah were five hundred thousand men.

وَأعطى يوآبُ المَلِكَ لائِحةً بعددِ الشَّعبِ: كانَ في إسْرائِيلَ ثَمانُ مِئِةِ ألْفِ رَجُلٍ قادِرينَ عَلَى اسْتِعْمالِ السَّيفِ، وفي يَهُوذا خَمْسُ مِئَةِ ألْفٍ. اللهُ يُعاقِبُ داود

10 A nd David's heart smote him after that he had numbered the people. And David said unto Jehovah, I have sinned greatly in that which I have done: but now, O Jehovah, put away, I beseech thee, the iniquity of thy servant; for I have done very foolishly.

ثُمَّ شَعَرَ داوُدُ بانْزِعاجٍ فِي قَلْبِهِ بَعْدَ أنْ أحصَى الشَّعبَ. فقالَ للهِ: «قَدْ أخْطَأتُ خَطيَّةً عظيمةً بِما فَعَلْتُ! فأرجوكَ يا اللهُ أنْ تَغْفِرَ لي خَطِيَّتي. لَقَدْ تَصَرَّفْتُ بِحُمْقٍ فِي هَذا الأمرِ.»

11 A nd when David rose up in the morning, the word of Jehovah came unto the prophet Gad, David's seer, saying,

وعِنْدَما نهضَ داود في الصَّباحِ، جاءَتْ كَلِمَةُ اللهِ إلَى جادَ نبيِّ داوُدَ. فقال لهُ اللهُ:

12 G o and speak unto David, Thus saith Jehovah, I offer thee three things: choose thee one of them, that I may do it unto thee.

«اذْهَبْ وَقُلْ لِداود: ‹إلَيكَ ما يَقُولُ اللهُ: سأُخَيِّرُكَ بين ثلاثَةِ أمورٍ، فاخْتَرْ مِنْها ما سأفْعَلُهُ بِكَ.›»

13 S o Gad came to David, and told him, and said unto him, Shall seven years of famine come unto thee in thy land? or wilt thou flee three months before thy foes while they pursue thee? or shall there be three days' pestilence in thy land? now advise thee, and consider what answer I shall return to him that sent me.

وذهَبَ جادُ إلَى داوُدَ وَقالَ لَهُ: «اخْتَرْ مِنْ هَذِهِ الثَّلاثَةِ: أنْ تُصِيبَكَ أنتَ وَبَلَدَكَ مَجاعَةٌ لِسَبْعِ سِنينَ، أوْ أنْ يَهزِمَكَ أعْداؤكَ وَيُلاحِقُونَكَ مُدَّةَ ثلاثةِ أشْهُرٍ، أوْ أنْ يُصِيبَ وَباءٌ بِلادِكَ مُدَّةَ ثَلاثَةِ أيّامٍ. فَكِّرْ وَاخْتَرْ واحِدةً مِنْ هذِهِ الثَّلاثَةِ، وسَأُخْبِرُ اللهَ بِما تَختارُ. فَقَدْ أرْسلني اللهُ إلَيكَ.»

14 A nd David said unto Gad, I am in a great strait: let us fall now into the hand of Jehovah; for his mercies are great; and let me not fall into the hand of man.

فقالَ داوُدُ لجاد: «أنا فِي ضِيقٍ عَظِيمٍ وَوَرْطةٍ حَقِيقيَّةٍ. لَكِنِّي أختارُ أنْ أقَعَ فِي يَدِ اللهِ ، لِأنَّ رَحمَتَهُ عَظِيمَةٌ جِدّاً. هَذا أفْضَلُ مِنْ أنْ أقَعَ فِي أيدِي بَشَرٍ.»

15 S o Jehovah sent a pestilence upon Israel from the morning even to the time appointed; and there died of the people from Dan even to Beer-sheba seventy thousand men.

فأرْسَلَ اللهُ إلَى إسْرائِيلَ وباءً. بَدأ في الصَّباحِ وَاسْتَمَرَّ إلَى الوقْتِ المُقرَّرِ لَهُ. فَماتَ سَبْعُونَ ألفاً من دان إلَى بِئْرِ السَّبْعِ.

16 A nd when the angel stretched out his hand toward Jerusalem to destroy it, Jehovah repented him of the evil, and said to the angel that destroyed the people, It is enough; now stay thy hand. And the angel of Jehovah was by the threshing-floor of Araunah the Jebusite.

وَأوْشَكَ المَلاكُ أنْ يَمَدَّ ذِراعَهُ فوقَ مَدينَةِ القُدْسِ ليُدَمِّرَها. لَكِنَّ اللهَ حَزِنَ كثيراً لِما حَصَلَ مِنْ سُوءٍ، فقالَ لِلمَلاكِ الّذي أهلَكَ النّاسَ: «كَفَى! رُدَّ يَدَكَ الآنَ!» وَكانَ مَلاكُ اللهِ واقِفاً عِنْدَ بَيدَرِ أرُونةَ اليَبُوسِيِّ. داود يَشْتَري بيدرَ أرونة

17 A nd David spake unto Jehovah when he saw the angel that smote the people, and said, Lo, I have sinned, and I have done perversely; but these sheep, what have they done? let thy hand, I pray thee, be against me, and against my father's house.

ورأى داود المَلاكَ الّذي قَتَلَ النّاس. فتكلَّمَ إلَى الله ، وقالَ: «أنا الَّذِي أخْطَأتُ! أنا ارْتَكَبْتُ السّوءَ! وهؤلاءِ المَساكِينُ لَمْ يَفْعَلوا إلا ما طَلَبْتُهُ مِنْهُم، وَكانُوا يَتْبَعُونَنِي كَالخِرافِ. هُمْ لَمْ يَرْتَكِبوا سوءاً. فأرْجوكَ أنْ تُنْزِلَ عِقابَكَ بي أنا وبِعائِلَتي.»

18 A nd Gad came that day to David, and said unto him, Go up, rear an altar unto Jehovah in the threshing-floor of Araunah the Jebusite.

في ذَلِكَ اليَوْمِ، جاءَ النَّبِيُّ جادُ إلَى داوُدَ وقالَ لهُ: «اذْهَبْ وَابْنِ مَذْبحاً للهِ في بَيدَرِ أرُونَةَ اليَبُوسِيِّ.»

19 A nd David went up according to the saying of Gad, as Jehovah commanded.

فَفَعَلَ داودُ ما طَلَبَهُ مِنْهُ جاد بِحَسَبِ أمرِ اللهُ.

20 A nd Araunah looked forth, and saw the king and his servants coming on toward him: and Araunah went out, and bowed himself before the king with his face to the ground.

فَنَظَرَ أرُونةُ وَرَأى الملِكَ داودَ وضُبّاطَهُ آتينَ إليهِ. فخَرَجَ وَانْحَنَى أمامَ الملِكِ وَوَجهُهُ نحوَ الأرْضِ.

21 A nd Araunah said, Wherefore is my lord the king come to his servant? And David said, To buy the threshing-floor of thee, to build an altar unto Jehovah, that the plague may be stayed from the people.

وقالَ أرُونةُ: «لِمَ جاءَ إليَّ مَولايَ وَمَلِكِي؟» فأجابَ داود: «جِئْتُ أشْتري مِنْكَ البَيدَرَ لأبْنِيَ مَذْبَحاً للهِ ، لِكَي يَتَوَقَّفَ الوَباءُ عَنِ الشَّعبِ.»

22 A nd Araunah said unto David, Let my lord the king take and offer up what seemeth good unto him: behold, the oxen for the burnt-offering, and the threshing instruments and the yokes of the oxen for the wood:

فقالَ أرونةُ لداود: «خُذْهُ وَافْعَلْ بِهِ كَما يَحلُو لَكَ. وَها أنا أُقَدِّمُ ثِيرانِي ذَبائِحَ، وَالمَحارِيثَ وَأدَواتِ البَقَرِ وَقُوداً للنّارِ.»

23 a ll this, O king, doth Araunah give unto the king. And Araunah said unto the king, Jehovah thy God accept thee.

كانَ أرُونةُ مُسْتَعِدّاً لإعْطاءِ كُلِّ شيءٍ للْمَلِكِ، وَقالَ لَهُ: «فَلْيَرْضَ عَنْكُ إلَهُكَ.»

24 A nd the king said unto Araunah, Nay; but I will verily buy it of thee at a price. Neither will I offer burnt-offerings unto Jehovah my God which cost me nothing. So David bought the threshing-floor and the oxen for fifty shekels of silver.

لَكِنَّ المَلِكَ قالَ لأرونةَ: «بَلْ سأدْفَعَ مُقابِلَ أرْضِكَ. لَنْ أُقَدِّمَ لإلَهي تَقْدِماتٍ لَمْ تُكَلِّفْني شيئًا.» وَاشْترى داود البَيدَرَ وَالأبْقارَ بِخَمسينَ مِثْقالاً مِنَ الفضَّةِ.

25 A nd David built there an altar unto Jehovah, and offered burnt-offerings and peace-offerings. So Jehovah was entreated for the land, and the plague was stayed from Israel.

ثُمَّ بنى مَذْبَحاً للهِ هُناكَ، وقَدَّمَ ذَبائِحَ صاعِدَةً وَذَبائِحَ شَرِكةٍ. وَاسْتَجابَ اللهُ لِصَلاتِهِ مِنْ أجلِ البِلادِ، فَكَفَّ المَرَضُ عَنْ إسْرائِيل.
