1 T hus the Lord Jehovah showed me: and, behold, he formed locusts in the beginning of the shooting up of the latter growth; and, lo, it was the latter growth after the king's mowings.

Esto es lo que el Señor me hizo ver: Estaba él criando langostas en el tiempo en que empieza a crecer el heno tardío, es decir, el heno tardío que sale después de las cosechas del rey.

2 A nd it came to pass that, when they made an end of eating the grass of the land, then I said, O Lord Jehovah, forgive, I beseech thee: how shall Jacob stand? for he is small.

Y cuando las langostas acabaron de comerse toda la hierba de la tierra, yo le dije: «Señor, Señor, ¡por favor, perdona a Jacob! ¿Quién podrá levantarlo, si aún es tan pequeño?»

3 J ehovah repented concerning this: It shall not be, saith Jehovah.

Y el Señor cambió de parecer, y dijo: «No lo voy a hacer.»

4 T hus the Lord Jehovah showed me: and, behold, the Lord Jehovah called to content by fire; and it devoured the great deep, and would have eaten up the land.

El Señor también me hizo ver esto: Estaba el Señor convocando a juicio por medio del fuego. Y el fuego consumió el gran abismo, y consumió también parte de la tierra.

5 T hen said I, O Lord Jehovah, cease, I beseech thee: how shall Jacob stand? for he is small.

Yo le dije: «Señor, Señor, ¡deténte por favor! ¿Quién podrá levantar a Jacob, si aún es tan pequeño?»

6 J ehovah repented concerning this: this also shall not be, saith the Lord Jehovah.

Y el Señor cambió de parecer, y dijo: «Esto tampoco lo voy a hacer.»

7 T hus he showed me: and, behold, the Lord stood beside a wall made by a plumb-line, with a plumb-line in his hand.

El Señor también me hizo ver esto: Estaba el Señor junto a un muro construido a plomo, y tenía en la mano una plomada de albañil.

8 A nd Jehovah said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumb-line. Then said the Lord, Behold, I will set a plumb-line in the midst of my people Israel; I will not again pass by them any more;

Y el Señor me dijo: «¿Qué es lo que ves, Amós?» Y yo le dije: «Veo una plomada de albañil.» Entonces el Señor me dijo: «Voy a medir a mi pueblo Israel con una plomada de albañil. ¡No voy a pasarle una más!

9 a nd the high places of Isaac shall be desolate, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword.

Voy a destruir los lugares altos de Isaac, y a dejar en ruinas los santuarios de Israel. Además, voy a levantar la espada contra la casa de Jeroboán.» Amós y Amasías

10 T hen Amaziah the priest of Beth-el sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, Amos hath conspired against thee in the midst of the house of Israel: the land is not able to bear all his words.

Amasías, el sacerdote de Betel, mandó a decir a Jeroboán, rey de Israel: «Amós anda entre los de la casa de Israel conspirando contra ti. El país no puede seguir soportando todas sus palabras.

11 F or thus Amos saith, Jeroboam shall die by the sword, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of his land.

A decir verdad, esto es lo que ha dicho Amós: “Jeroboán morirá a filo de espada, y los israelitas serán llevados de su tierra al cautiverio.”»

12 A lso Amaziah said unto Amos, O thou seer, go, flee thou away into the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there:

Además, Amasías le dijo a Amós: «Tú, vidente, ¡largo de aquí! ¡Vete a la tierra de Judá! ¡Allá puedes comer, y allá puedes profetizar!

13 b ut prophesy not again any more at Beth-el; for it is the king's sanctuary, and it is a royal house.

No profetices más aquí en Betel, porque aquí está el santuario del rey, y ésta es la capital del reino.»

14 T hen answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet's son; but I was a herdsman, and a dresser of sycomore-trees:

Amós le respondió a Amasías: «Yo no soy profeta, ni hijo de profeta. Soy boyero, y recojo higos silvestres.

15 a nd Jehovah took me from following the flock, and Jehovah said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel.

Pero el Señor me quitó de andar tras el ganado, y me dijo: “Ve y profetiza a mi pueblo Israel.”

16 N ow therefore hear thou the word of Jehovah: Thou sayest, Prophesy not against Israel, and drop not thy word against the house of Isaac;

Así que, oye ahora la palabra del Señor: Tú me dices que no profetice yo contra Israel, ni hable en contra de la casa de Isaac;

17 t herefore thus saith Jehovah: Thy wife shall be a harlot in the city, and thy sons and thy daughters shall fall by the sword, and thy land shall be divided by line; and thou thyself shalt die in a land that is unclean, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of his land.

por eso, el Señor te dice: “Tu mujer se prostituirá en plena ciudad; tus hijos y tus hijas caerán a filo de espada, y tu tierra será fraccionada y repartida; tú morirás en un país impuro, e Israel será llevado al cautiverio, lejos de su tierra.”»
