1 A nd Jehovah said unto Moses, Go in unto Pharaoh: for I have hardened his heart, and the heart of his servants, that I may show these my signs in the midst of them,

El Señor le dijo a Moisés: «Preséntate ante el faraón. Yo he endurecido su corazón, y el corazón de sus siervos, para mostrarles a ellos estas señales mías,

2 a nd that thou mayest tell in the ears of thy son, and of thy son's son, what things I have wrought upon Egypt, and my signs which I have done among them; that ye may know that I am Jehovah.

y para que tú les cuentes a tus hijos y a tus nietos las señales que hice entre ellos en Egipto. Así sabrán que yo soy el Señor.»

3 A nd Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and said unto him, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of the Hebrews, How long wilt thou refuse to humble thyself before me? let my people go, that they may serve me.

Moisés y Aarón se presentaron ante el faraón, y le dijeron: «El Señor, el Dios de los hebreos, ha dicho: “¿Hasta cuándo te negarás a humillarte delante de mí? ¡Deja ir a mi pueblo, para que me sirva!

4 E lse, if thou refuse to let my people go, behold, to-morrow will I bring locusts into thy border:

Si insistes en no dejarlo ir, mañana mismo traeré langostas sobre tu territorio,

5 a nd they shall cover the face of the earth, so that one shall not be able to see the earth: and they shall eat the residue of that which is escaped, which remaineth unto you from the hail, and shall eat every tree which groweth for you out of the field:

y éstas cubrirán la superficie de la tierra, de tal modo que no podrá verse el suelo. Se comerán todo lo que el granizo no haya dañado, lo mismo que todos los árboles frutales del campo.

6 a nd thy houses shall be filled, and the houses of all thy servants, and the houses of all the Egyptians; as neither thy fathers nor thy fathers' fathers have seen, since the day that they were upon the earth unto this day. And he turned, and went out from Pharaoh.

Llenarán tus casas, y las casas de todos tus siervos, y las casas de todos los egipcios, como nunca antes lo vieron tus padres ni tus abuelos desde que nacieron hasta el día de hoy.”» Y dándose vuelta, Moisés salió de la presencia del faraón.

7 A nd Pharaoh's servants said unto him, How long shall this man be a snare unto us? let the men go, that they may serve Jehovah their God: knowest thou not yet that Egypt is destroyed?

Entonces los siervos del faraón le dijeron: «¿Hasta cuándo este hombre será para nosotros una trampa? ¡Deja que esta gente se vaya y sirva al Señor su Dios! ¿Acaso no sabes todavía que Egipto se encuentra en ruinas?»

8 A nd Moses and Aaron were brought again unto Pharaoh: and he said unto them, Go, serve Jehovah your God; but who are they that shall go?

El faraón volvió a llamar a Moisés y Aarón, y les dijo: «Vayan y sirvan al Señor su Dios. ¿Quiénes son los que va a ir?»

9 A nd Moses said, We will go with our young and with our old; with our sons and with our daughters, with our flocks and with our herds will we go; for we must hold a feast unto Jehovah.

Moisés respondió: «Tenemos que ir con nuestros niños y nuestros ancianos, con nuestros hijos y nuestras hijas, y con nuestras ovejas y nuestras vacas. Se trata de nuestra fiesta solemne para el Señor.»

10 A nd he said unto them, So be Jehovah with you, as I will let you go, and your little ones: look to it; for evil is before you.

Pero el faraón les dijo: «¡Y claro, también el Señor va a ir con ustedes! ¿Cómo creen que voy a dejarlos ir, a ustedes y a sus niños? ¡Tengan cuidado, que les puede ir muy mal!

11 N ot so: go now ye that are men, and serve Jehovah; for that is what ye desire. And they were driven out from Pharaoh's presence.

Pues no será así. Vayan ahora ustedes los varones, y sirvan al Señor, ya que eso es lo que pidieron.» Y los echaron fuera de la presencia del faraón.

12 A nd Jehovah said unto Moses, Stretch out thy hand over the land of Egypt for the locusts, that they may come up upon the land of Egypt, and eat every herb of the land, even all that the hail hath left.

Entonces el Señor le dijo a Moisés: «Extiende tu mano sobre la tierra de Egipto, para que vengan las langostas y cubran todo el país, y acaben con todo lo que dejó el granizo.»

13 A nd Moses stretched forth his rod over the land of Egypt, and Jehovah brought an east wind upon the land all that day, and all the night; and when it was morning, the east wind brought the locusts.

Y Moisés extendió su vara sobre la tierra de Egipto, y el Señor hizo que todo ese día y toda esa noche soplara sobre el país un viento del oriente; y cuando llegó la mañana, con ese viento del oriente llegaron las langostas.

14 A nd the locusts went up over all the land of Egypt, and rested in all the borders of Egypt; very grievous were they; before them there were no such locusts as they, neither after them shall be such.

Y se extendieron y se plantaron por todo Egipto. Vinieron en tal cantidad, que nunca antes sucedió algo así, ni sucederá después.

15 F or they covered the face of the whole earth, so that the land was darkened; and they did eat every herb of the land, and all the fruit of the trees which the hail had left: and there remained not any green thing, either tree or herb of the field, through all the land of Egypt.

De tal manera cubrieron la superficie del país, que se oscureció la tierra. Arrasaron con toda la hierba del campo, y con todos los frutos que el granizo había dejado en los árboles. En toda la tierra de Egipto no quedó nada verde en los árboles ni en la hierba del campo.

16 T hen Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron in haste; and he said, I have sinned against Jehovah your God, and against you.

El faraón se apresuró a llamar a Moisés y a Aarón, y les dijo: «He pecado contra el Señor su Dios, y contra ustedes.

17 N ow therefore forgive, I pray thee, my sin only this once, and entreat Jehovah your God, that he may take away from me this death only.

Pero les ruego que, sólo por esta vez, perdonen mi pecado y pidan al Señor su Dios que quite de mí al menos esta plaga mortal.»

18 A nd he went out from Pharaoh, and entreated Jehovah.

Y Moisés salió de la presencia del faraón, y oró al Señor.

19 A nd Jehovah turned an exceeding strong west wind, which took up the locusts, and drove them into the Red Sea; there remained not one locust in all the border of Egypt.

Entonces el Señor trajo de occidente un viento muy fuerte, y barrió con las langostas y las arrojó al Mar Rojo. ¡Ni una sola langosta quedó en todo Egipto!

20 B ut Jehovah hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he did not let the children of Israel go.

Pero el Señor endureció el corazón del faraón, y éste no dejó ir a los hijos de Israel. La plaga de tinieblas

21 A nd Jehovah said unto Moses, Stretch out thy hand toward heaven, that there may be darkness over the land of Egypt, even darkness which may be felt.

El Señor le dijo a Moisés: «Extiende tu mano hacia el cielo, para que todo Egipto se cubra de tinieblas tan densas que hasta se puedan tocar.»

22 A nd Moses stretched forth his hand toward heaven; and there was a thick darkness in all the land of Egypt three days;

Y Moisés extendió su mano hacia el cielo, y durante tres días todo Egipto se cubrió de densas tinieblas.

23 t hey saw not one another, neither rose any one from his place for three days: but all the children of Israel had light in their dwellings.

En esos tres días, nadie pudo ver a su vecino, ni nadie se movió de su sitio; en cambio, todos los hijos de Israel tenían luz en sus casas.

24 A nd Pharaoh called unto Moses, and said, Go ye, serve Jehovah; only let your flocks and your herds be stayed: let your little ones also go with you.

Entonces el faraón mandó llamar a Moisés, y le dijo: «Vayan a servir al Señor, y lleven con ustedes a sus niños, con tal de que dejen aquí a sus ovejas y sus vacas.»

25 A nd Moses said, Thou must also give into our hand sacrifices and burnt-offerings, that we may sacrifice unto Jehovah our God.

Pero Moisés respondió: «¡Pues hasta tú vas a darnos los animales que debemos ofrecer al Señor nuestro Dios como sacrificio y holocausto!

26 O ur cattle also shall go with us; there shall not a hoof be left behind: for thereof must we take to serve Jehovah our God; and we know not with what we must serve Jehovah, until we come thither.

También nuestros ganados irán con nosotros. No se quedará aquí ni una sola pezuña, pues tenemos que tomar de nuestros animales para servir al Señor nuestro Dios, y no sabremos cómo debemos servirle hasta que lleguemos allá.»

27 B ut Jehovah hardened Pharaoh's heart, and he would not let them go.

Pero el Señor endureció el corazón del faraón, y éste no quiso dejarlos ir;

28 A nd Pharaoh said unto him, Get thee from me, take heed to thyself, see my face no more; for in the day thou seest my face thou shalt die.

al contrario, el faraón le dijo a Moisés: «¡Aléjate de mí! ¡Y ten cuidado de no volver a verme! Porque si algún día vuelves a verme, morirás.»

29 A nd Moses said, Thou hast spoken well. I will see thy face again no more.

Y Moisés le respondió: «Tal y como lo has dicho, ¡nunca más volveré a verte!»
