1 W oe to thee that destroyest, and thou wast not destroyed; and dealest treacherously, and they dealt not treacherously with thee! When thou hast ceased to destroy, thou shalt be destroyed; and when thou hast made an end of dealing treacherously, they shall deal treacherously with thee.

¡Ay de ti, que saqueas, aunque nunca fuiste saqueado! ¡Ay de ti, que eres desleal, aunque nunca nadie fue desleal contigo! Cuando acabes de saquear, el saqueado serás tú; cuando acabes de ser desleal, tú serás víctima de la deslealtad.

2 O Jehovah, be gracious unto us; we have waited for thee: be thou our arm every morning, our salvation also in the time of trouble.

Señor, ten misericordia de nosotros, pues nosotros esperamos en ti. Tú, que de mañana eres brazo de otros, ¡sálvanos también en momentos de angustia!

3 A t the noise of the tumult the peoples are fled; at the lifting up of thyself the nations are scattered.

Al escuchar el estruendo, los pueblos huyen; al levantarte tú, las naciones se esparcen.

4 A nd your spoil shall be gathered as the caterpillar gathereth: as locusts leap shall men leap upon it.

Sus despojos serán recogidos como cuando se recogen orugas; sobre ellos se correrá y se saltará, como corren y saltan las langostas.

5 J ehovah is exalted; for he dwelleth on high: he hath filled Zion with justice and righteousness.

Pero tú, Señor, que habitas en las alturas y que has saturado a Sión con la justicia y el derecho, serás exaltado.

6 A nd there shall be stability in thy times, abundance of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge: the fear of Jehovah is thy treasure.

En tus tiempos reinarán la sabiduría y la ciencia, y mucha salvación; el temor a ti, Señor, será el tesoro de tu pueblo.

7 B ehold, their valiant ones cry without; the ambassadors of peace weep bitterly.

Afuera de la ciudad los embajadores darán voces, y los mensajeros de paz llorarán amargamente.

8 T he highways lie waste, the wayfaring man ceaseth: the enemy hath broken the covenant, he hath despised the cities, he regardeth not man.

Las calzadas están deshechas; ya no hay caminantes; el pacto ha quedado anulado. El enemigo aborreció las ciudades y menospreció a sus habitantes.

9 T he land mourneth and languisheth; Lebanon is confounded and withereth away; Sharon is like a desert; and Bashan and Carmel shake off their leaves.

La tierra se enfermó y enlutó; el Líbano quedó marchito y en vergüenza; Sarón se ha vuelto un desierto, y Basán y el Carmelo han sido sacudidos.

10 N ow will I arise, saith Jehovah; now will I lift up myself; now will I be exalted.

Pero el Señor dice: «Ahora mismo voy a levantarme; ahora mismo voy a ser exaltado; ¡ahora mismo voy a ser engrandecido!

11 Y e shall conceive chaff, ye shall bring forth stubble: your breath is a fire that shall devour you.

Puesto que ustedes han concebido hojarascas, sólo producirán rastrojo; su propio aliento será un fuego que los consumirá.

12 A nd the peoples shall be as the burnings of lime, as thorns cut down, that are burned in the fire.

Los pueblos parecerán cal quemada, y como espinos arrancados serán echados al fuego.

13 H ear, ye that are far off, what I have done; and, ye that are near, acknowledge my might.

Ustedes, los que están lejos, escuchen lo que he hecho; y ustedes, los que están cerca, reconozcan mi poder.»

14 T he sinners in Zion are afraid; trembling hath seized the godless ones: Who among us can dwell with the devouring fire? who among us can dwell with everlasting burnings?

Los pecadores se asustaron en Sión; el miedo se apoderó de los hipócritas. ¿Quién de nosotros podría convivir con el fuego consumidor? ¿Quién de nosotros podría vivir entre las llamas inextinguibles?

15 H e that walketh righteously, and speaketh uprightly; he that despiseth the gain of oppressions, that shaketh his hands from taking a bribe, that stoppeth his ears from hearing of blood, and shutteth his eyes from looking upon evil:

Sólo el que se conduce con justicia y habla con rectitud, el que aborrece las ganancias mal habidas, el que se niega a recibir sobornos, el que se tapa los oídos para no escuchar propuestas criminales; el que cierra los ojos para no atestiguar la maldad.

16 H e shall dwell on high; his place of defence shall be the munitions of rocks; his bread shall be given him; his waters shall be sure.

Quien es así, habitará en las alturas; las resistentes rocas serán su refugio, y nunca le faltará el pan ni el agua.

17 T hine eyes shall see the king in his beauty: they shall behold a land that reacheth afar.

Tus ojos verán al Rey en su hermosura, y contemplarán la tierra distante.

18 T hy heart shall muse on the terror: Where is he that counted, where is he that weighed the tribute? where is he that counted the towers?

En tu corazón te imaginarás el espanto, y dirás: «¿Qué pasó con el escriba? ¿Y qué fue del que pesaba el tributo? ¿Y dónde quedó el que censaba las grandes torres?»

19 T hou shalt not see the fierce people, a people of a deep speech that thou canst not comprehend, of a strange tongue that thou canst not understand.

Ya no verás a ese pueblo arrogante, de lenguaje difícil y entrecortado, que te era tan difícil comprender.

20 L ook upon Zion, the city of our solemnities: thine eyes shall see Jerusalem a quiet habitation, a tent that shall not be removed, the stakes whereof shall never be plucked up, neither shall any of the cords thereof be broken.

¡Mira a Sión, ciudad de nuestras fiestas solemnes! Con tus ojos verás a Jerusalén, casa tranquila, tienda que nunca será desarmada, cuyas estacas jamás serán arrancadas, y cuyas cuerdas jamás serán rotas.

21 B ut there Jehovah will be with us in majesty, a place of broad rivers and streams, wherein shall go no galley with oars, neither shall gallant ship pass thereby.

Allí el Señor será para nosotros una fortaleza, un lugar de ríos y de anchos arroyos, por los que no pasará ninguna galera de remos, ni tampoco navegarán grandes naves.

22 F or Jehovah is our judge, Jehovah is our lawgiver, Jehovah is our king; he will save us.

El Señor es nuestro juez. El Señor es nuestro legislador. ¡El Señor es nuestro Rey, y él mismo nos salvará!

23 T hy tacklings are loosed; they could not strengthen the foot of their mast, they could not spread the sail: then was the prey of a great spoil divided; the lame took the prey.

Aunque tus cuerdas están flojas, y tu mástil no está firme ni tensada tu vela, te repartirás el botín de muchos despojos, y hasta los cojos se arrebatarán el botín.

24 A nd the inhabitant shall not say, I am sick: the people that dwell therein shall be forgiven their iniquity.

Nadie que habite la ciudad dirá que está enfermo, porque a sus habitantes les será perdonada su maldad.
