1 A nd afterward Moses and Aaron came, and said unto Pharaoh, Thus saith Jehovah, the God of Israel, Let my people go, that they may hold a feast unto me in the wilderness.

Después Moisés y Aarón se presentaron ante el faraón, y le dijeron: «El Señor, el Dios de Israel, dice así: “Deja ir a mi pueblo, para que celebren en el desierto una fiesta en mi honor.”»

2 A nd Pharaoh said, Who is Jehovah, that I should hearken unto his voice to let Israel go? I know not Jehovah, and moreover I will not let Israel go.

Pero el faraón respondió: «¿Y quién es “el Señor”, para que yo le haga caso y deje ir a Israel? Yo no conozco al Señor, ni tampoco dejaré ir a Israel.»

3 A nd they said, The God of the Hebrews hath met with us: let us go, we pray thee, three days' journey into the wilderness, and sacrifice unto Jehovah our God, lest he fall upon us with pestilence, or with the sword.

Ellos dijeron entonces: «El Dios de los hebreos nos ha encontrado, así que ahora vamos a ir al desierto camino de tres días, y allí ofreceremos sacrificios al Señor nuestro Dios. No vaya a ser que venga contra nosotros con peste o con espada.»

4 A nd the king of Egypt said unto them, Wherefore do ye, Moses and Aaron, loose the people from their works? get you unto your burdens.

Pero el rey de Egipto les dijo: «Moisés y Aarón, ¿por qué hacen que el pueblo abandone su trabajo? ¡Vayan a cumplir con sus tareas!»

5 A nd Pharaoh said, Behold, the people of the land are now many, and ye make them rest from their burdens.

Y también dijo el faraón: «Como pueden ver, es mucha la gente que hay en el país, ¡y ustedes le impiden cumplir con sus tareas!»

6 A nd the same day Pharaoh commanded the taskmasters of the people, and their officers, saying,

Ese mismo día el faraón dio esta orden a los jefes de cuadrilla que tenían a su cargo al pueblo, y a sus capataces:

7 Y e shall no more give the people straw to make brick, as heretofore: let them go and gather straw for themselves.

«De aquí en adelante no le darán al pueblo paja para hacer ladrillo, como lo han hecho hasta ahora. ¡Que vayan ellos mismos a recoger la paja!

8 A nd the number of the bricks, which they did make heretofore, ye shall lay upon them; ye shall not diminish aught thereof: for they are idle; therefore they cry, saying, Let us go and sacrifice to our God.

Pero los obligarán a hacer la misma cantidad de ladrillo que antes hacían. No les reduzcan ni un solo ladrillo. Lo que pasa es que están ociosos, y por eso levantan la voz y dicen: “Vayamos a ofrecer sacrificios a nuestro Dios.”

9 L et heavier work be laid upon the men, that they may labor therein; and let them not regard lying words.

Háganlos trabajar más todavía. Que se mantengan ocupados y no hagan caso de mentiras.»

10 A nd the taskmasters of the people went out, and their officers, and they spake to the people, saying, Thus saith Pharaoh, I will not give you straw.

Los jefes de cuadrilla y sus capataces fueron a hablar con el pueblo, y les dijeron: «Así ha dicho el faraón: “Ya no les voy a dar paja.”

11 G o yourselves, get you straw where ye can find it: for nought of your work shall be diminished.

Así que vayan ustedes mismos a recoger paja donde la encuentren, pero su tarea no se reducirá en nada.»

12 S o the people were scattered abroad throughout all the land of Egypt to gather stubble for straw.

Entonces el pueblo se esparció por todo Egipto, y en lugar de paja iban recogiendo rastrojo.

13 A nd the taskmasters were urgent saying, Fulfil your works, your daily tasks, as when there was straw.

Los cuadrilleros los apremiaban, y les decían: «Cumplan con su tarea. Hagan los mismos ladrillos que hacían cuando se les daba paja.»

14 A nd the officers of the children of Israel, whom Pharaoh's taskmasters had set over them, were beaten, and demanded, Wherefore have ye not fulfilled your task both yesterday and to-day, in making brick as heretofore?

Por su parte, los capataces de los hijos de Israel, que los jefes de cuadrilla del faraón habían puesto sobre ellos, los azotaban y les decían: «¿Por qué ni ayer ni hoy cumplieron con su tarea de ladrillos, como antes lo hacían?»

15 T hen the officers of the children of Israel came and cried unto Pharaoh, saying, Wherefore dealest thou thus with thy servants?

Por eso los capataces de los hijos de Israel fueron a hablar con el faraón, y se quejaron con él. Le dijeron: «¿Por qué tratas así a tus siervos?

16 T here is no straw given unto thy servants, and they say to us, Make brick: and, behold, thy servants are beaten; but the fault it in thine own people.

Paja no se nos da, y sin embargo nos ordenan: “Hagan ladrillos.” ¡Ahora resulta que a tus siervos se les azota, cuando que el culpable es tu pueblo!»

17 B ut he said, Ye are idle, ye are idle: therefore ye say, Let us go and sacrifice to Jehovah.

Pero el faraón respondió: «Ustedes están ociosos. Tan ociosos están, que por eso dicen: “Vayamos a ofrecer sacrificios al Señor.”

18 G o therefore now, and work; for there shall no straw be given you, yet shall ye deliver the number of bricks.

¡Váyanse ya a trabajar! Paja no se les va a dar, pero la cantidad de ladrillos que deben entregar será la misma.»

19 A nd the officers of the children of Israel did see that they were in evil case, when it was said, Ye shall not diminish aught from your bricks, your daily tasks.

Los capataces de los hijos de Israel se vieron en aprietos cuando se les dijo: «No se disminuirá un solo ladrillo de la cantidad que deben entregar cada día.»

20 A nd they met Moses and Aaron, who stood in the way, as they came forth from Pharaoh:

Y como al salir de la presencia del faraón encontraron a Moisés y Aarón, que los estaban esperando,

21 a nd they said unto them, Jehovah look upon you, and judge: because ye have made our savor to be abhorred in the eyes of Pharaoh, and in the eyes of his servants, to put a sword in their hand to slay us.

les dijeron: «¡Que el Señor los mire y los juzgue! Ustedes nos han hecho odiosos a la vista del faraón y de sus siervos. ¡Les han puesto la espada en la mano, para que nos maten!» El Señor comisiona a Moisés y a Aarón

22 A nd Moses returned unto Jehovah, and said, Lord, wherefore hast thou dealt ill with this people? why is it that thou hast sent me?

Entonces Moisés se dirigió al Señor, y le dijo: «Señor, ¿por qué afliges a este pueblo? ¿Para qué me enviaste?

23 F or since I came to Pharaoh to speak in thy name, he hath dealt ill with this people; neither hast thou delivered thy people at all.

Desde que yo vine para hablar en tu nombre al faraón, éste ha afligido a tu pueblo, ¡y tú no lo has liberado!»
