1 H e that dasheth in pieces is come up against thee: keep the fortress, watch the way, make thy loins strong, fortify thy power mightily.

Ya avanza contra ti el destructor. Vigila, pues, tu fortaleza y el camino. Vístete y refuerza al máximo tu poder.

2 F or Jehovah restoreth the excellency of Jacob, as the excellency of Israel; for the emptiers have emptied them out, and destroyed their vine-branches.

Los saqueadores despojaron a Jacob, ¡estropearon las viñas de Israel! Pero el Señor restaurará su antigua gloria.

3 T he shield of his mighty men is made red, the valiant men are in scarlet: the chariots flash with steel in the day of his preparation, and the cypress spears are brandished.

Rojos son los escudos de los guerreros. Rojos son también sus uniformes. Sus carros de guerra brillan como antorchas. Llegó el día del ataque, y ya agitan las lanzas.

4 T he chariots rage in the streets; they rush to and fro in the broad ways: the appearance of them is like torches; they run like the lightnings.

Los carros se precipitan a las plazas y ruedan con estruendo por las calles. Su aspecto es el de antorchas encendidas, que pasan como súbitos relámpagos.

5 H e remembereth his nobles: they stumble in their march; they make haste to the wall thereof, and the mantelet is prepared.

El rey manda llamar a sus valientes, y éstos en su prisa se atropellan. Corren a las murallas y preparan la defensa.

6 T he gates of the rivers are opened, and the palace is dissolved.

Se abren las compuertas de los ríos, y las aguas inundan el palacio.

7 A nd it is decreed: she is uncovered, she is carried away; and her handmaids moan as with the voice of doves, beating upon their breasts.

La reina es apresada y llevada en vilo. Sus criadas gimen como palomas, y en su angustia se golpean el pecho.

8 B ut Nineveh hath been from of old like a pool of water: yet they flee away. Stand, stand, they cry; but none looketh back.

La gente en Nínive parece una represa cuyas aguas se hubieran desbordado. Algunos gritan: «¡Deténganse, deténganse!», pero nadie retrocede.

9 T ake ye the spoil of silver, take the spoil of gold; for there is no end of the store, the glory of all goodly furniture.

Unos se roban la plata, otros se roban el oro, ¡parecieran no tener fin tantas riquezas y tantos objetos codiciables y valiosos!

10 S he is empty, and void, and waste; and the heart melteth, and the knees smite together, and anguish is in all loins, and the faces of them all are waxed pale.

Nínive queda vacía, vencida, despojada. El corazón le desfallece, le tiemblan las rodillas, le duelen las entrañas, su rostro palidece.

11 W here is the den of the lions, and the feeding-place of the young lions, where the lion and the lioness walked, the lion's whelp, and none made them afraid?

¿Qué hay de la guarida de los leones? ¿Qué pasó con la guarida de cachorros, donde el león y la leona descansaban, donde nadie osaba espantar a los cachorros?

12 T he lion did tear in pieces enough for his whelps, and strangled for his lionesses, and filled his caves with prey, and his dens with ravin.

El león mataba para alimentar a sus cachorros, desgarraba su presa y alimentaba a sus leonas; ¡con los despojos de sus víctimas llenaba sus cuevas y guaridas! Destrucción total de Nínive

13 B ehold, I am against thee, saith Jehovah of hosts, and I will burn her chariots in the smoke, and the sword shall devour thy young lions; and I will cut off thy prey from the earth, and the voice of thy messengers shall no more be heard.

«Pero yo estoy contra ti. Voy a quemar tus carros de guerra, y los reduciré a cenizas. La espada acabará con tus leoncillos; pondré fin al pillaje que hay en el país, y nunca más volverá a escucharse la voz de tus mensajeros.» —Palabra del Señor de los ejércitos.
