1 N ow in the eighteenth year of king Jeroboam the son of Nebat began Abijam to reign over Judah.

2 T hree years reigned he in Jerusalem: and his mother's name was Maacah the daughter of Abishalom.

y reinó en Jerusalén tres años. Su madre se llamaba Macá, y era hija de Abisalom.

3 A nd he walked in all the sins of his father, which he had done before him; and his heart was not perfect with Jehovah his God, as the heart of David his father.

Y Abías cometió todos los pecados en que incurrió su padre Roboán, y su corazón no le fue fiel al Señor, como lo había sido su antepasado David.

4 N evertheless for David's sake did Jehovah his God give him a lamp in Jerusalem, to set up his son after him, and to establish Jerusalem;

Pero Dios el Señor le concedió tener un sucesor en el trono de Jerusalén, ciudad a la que siguió sosteniendo por amor a su siervo David,

5 b ecause David did that which was right in the eyes of Jehovah, and turned not aside from anything that he commanded him all the days of his life, save only in the matter of Uriah the Hittite.

pues David vivió rectamente en la presencia del Señor y nunca en su vida desobedeció ninguno de sus mandatos, salvo lo que hizo con Urías el hitita.

6 N ow there was war between Rehoboam and Jeroboam all the days of his life.

Mientras Roboán y Jeroboán vivieron, estuvieron en constantes guerras,

7 A nd the rest of the acts of Abijam, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? And there was war between Abijam and Jeroboam.

y también Abías entró en guerra contra Jeroboán. Todo los hechos de Abías se hallan registrados en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Judá.

8 A nd Abijam slept with his fathers; and they buried him in the city of David: and Asa his son reigned in his stead.

Y Abías se reunió con sus antepasados y fue sepultado en la ciudad de David. En su lugar reinó su hijo Asa. Reinado de Asa

9 A nd in the twentieth year of Jeroboam king of Israel began Asa to reign over Judah.

Asa comenzó a reinar sobre Judá cuando Jeroboán llevaba veinte años de reinar sobre Israel,

10 A nd forty and one years reigned he in Jerusalem: and his mother's name was Maacah the daughter of Abishalom.

y reinó en Jerusalén cuarenta y un años. Su madre se llamaba Macá, y era hija de Abisalom.

11 A nd Asa did that which was right in the eyes of Jehovah, as did David his father.

A diferencia de su hermano y de su padre, Asa hizo lo recto a los ojos del Señor, como su antepasado David.

12 A nd he put away the sodomites out of the land, and removed all the idols that his fathers had made.

Desterró del país a los que practicaban la prostitución entre hombres en los templos paganos, y derribó todos los ídolos que sus antepasados habían hecho.

13 A nd also Maacah his mother he removed from being queen, because she had made an abominable image for an Asherah; and Asa cut down her image, and burnt it at the brook Kidron.

A Macá, su madre, le quitó el título de reina madre porque había hecho un ídolo de Asera, al cual destruyó y le prendió fuego junto al torrente de Cedrón.

14 B ut the high places were not taken away: nevertheless the heart of Asa was perfect with Jehovah all his days.

Y aunque no se quitaron todos los altares de los montes, durante toda su vida Asa amó al Señor con todo su corazón.

15 A nd he brought into the house of Jehovah the things that his father had dedicated, and the things that himself had dedicated, silver, and gold, and vessels.

Hizo que se llevara de nuevo al templo del Señor lo que su padre había consagrado, además del oro, la plata y las alhajas que él mismo dedicó. Alianza de Asa con Ben Adad

16 A nd there was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel all their days.

También hubo guerra entre Asa y Basá, el rey de Israel, mientras ambos vivieron.

17 A nd Baasha king of Israel went up against Judah, and built Ramah, that he might not suffer any one to go out or come in to Asa king of Judah.

Basá se enfrentó contra el pueblo de Judá, y mandó fortificar las murallas de Ramá para que nadie pudiera entrar ni salir del reino de Asa.

18 T hen Asa took all the silver and the gold that were left in the treasures of the house of Jehovah, and the treasures of the king's house, and delivered them into the hand of his servants; and king Asa sent them to Ben-hadad, the son of Tabrimmon, the son of Hezion, king of Syria, that dwelt at Damascus, saying,

Al ver esto, Asa tomó el oro y la plata que aún quedaban en los tesoros del templo del Señor, junto con los tesoros del palacio real, y los entregó a sus siervos con la orden de que fueran a Damasco, donde estaba el rey Ben Adad de Siria, hijo de Tabrimón y nieto de Hezión, y le dieran este mensaje:

19 T here is a league between me and thee, between my father and thy father: behold, I have sent unto thee a present of silver and gold; go, break thy league with Baasha king of Israel, that he may depart from me.

«Te propongo que tú y yo hagamos una alianza, como la que hicieron tu padre y el mío. Aquí tienes un presente de oro y plata. Da por terminado el pacto que tienes con Basá, rey de Israel. Quiero que me deje en paz.»

20 A nd Ben-hadad hearkened unto king Asa, and sent the captains of his armies against the cities of Israel, and smote Ijon, and Dan, and Abel-beth-maacah, and all Chinneroth, with all the land of Naphtali.

Ben Adad estuvo de acuerdo con Asa, y ordenó a los comandantes de sus ejércitos que atacaran las ciudades de Israel. Así conquistó Iyón, Dan, Abel Betmacá, y todo el territorio de Cineret y de Neftalí.

21 A nd it came to pass, when Baasha heard thereof, that he left off building Ramah, and dwelt in Tirzah.

Y cuando Basá supo esto, dejó de edificar la muralla de Ramá y se quedó en Tirsa.

22 T hen king Asa made a proclamation unto all Judah; none was exempted: and they carried away the stones of Ramah, and the timber thereof, wherewith Baasha had builded; and king Asa built therewith Geba of Benjamin, and Mizpah.

Entonces Asa convocó a todo el pueblo de Judá, sin excluir a nadie, y fueron a Ramá para quitar las piedras y la madera con las que Basá estaba construyendo, y con ese material el rey Asa reconstruyó Geba de Benjamín y Mispá. Muerte de Asa

23 N ow the rest of all the acts of Asa, and all his might, and all that he did, and the cities which he built, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? But in the time of his old age he was diseased in his feet.

Los hechos de Asa, y el poder que tuvo y las ciudades que edificó, se hallan registrados en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Judá. Cuando Asa envejeció, se enfermó de los pies

24 A nd Asa slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father; and Jehoshaphat his son reigned in his stead.

y fue a reunirse con sus antepasados y fue sepultado con ellos en la ciudad de David. En su lugar reinó su hijo Josafat. Reinado de Nadab

25 A nd Nadab the son of Jeroboam began to reign over Israel in the second year of Asa king of Judah; and he reigned over Israel two years.

Cuando el rey Asa tenía dos años de reinar sobre Judá, Nadab hijo de Jeroboán comenzó a reinar sobre Israel, y reinó dos años.

26 A nd he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, and walked in the way of his father, and in his sin wherewith he made Israel to sin.

Pero hizo lo malo a los ojos del Señor; siguió el mal ejemplo de su padre y cometió los mismos pecados con que hizo pecar a Israel.

27 A nd Baasha the son of Ahijah, of the house of Issachar, conspired against him; and Baasha smote him at Gibbethon, which belonged to the Philistines; for Nadab and all Israel were laying siege to Gibbethon.

Entonces Basá, que era hijo de Ajías y nieto de Isacar, conspiró contra Nadab y lo hirió de muerte en Gibetón, tierra de filisteos, porque Nadab y todo el ejército israelita habían sitiado la ciudad.

28 E ven in the third year of Asa king of Judah did Baasha slay him, and reigned in his stead.

Nadab murió a manos de Basá, y éste reinó en su lugar. Para entonces, Asa llevaba tres años de reinar sobre Judá.

29 A nd it came to pass that, as soon as he was king, he smote all the house of Jeroboam: he left not to Jeroboam any that breathed, until he had destroyed him; according unto the saying of Jehovah, which he spake by his servant Ahijah the Shilonite;

Y tan pronto como Basá llegó al trono, mató a toda la familia de Jeroboán, sin dejar con vida a nadie, tal y como lo había dicho el Señor a su siervo Ajías el silonita.

30 f or the sins of Jeroboam which he sinned, and wherewith he made Israel to sin, because of his provocation wherewith he provoked Jehovah, the God of Israel, to anger.

Y es que Jeroboán cometió muchos pecados, con lo que hizo que el pueblo de Israel pecara; y eso provocó el enojo del Señor, Dios de Israel.

31 N ow the rest of the acts of Nadab, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel?

Todos los hechos de Nadab se hallan registrados en el libro de las crónicas de los reyes de Israel.

32 A nd there was war between Asa and Baasha king of Israel all their days.

Y la guerra entre Asa y el rey Basá de Israel duró mientras los dos vivieron. Reinado de Basá

33 I n the third year of Asa king of Judah began Baasha the son of Ahijah to reign over all Israel in Tirzah, and reigned twenty and four years.

Basá hijo de Ajías reinó sobre todo Israel en Tirsa durante veinticuatro años. Para entonces, Asa tenía tres años como rey de Judá.

34 A nd he did that which was evil in the sight of Jehovah, and walked in the way of Jeroboam, and in his sin wherewith he made Israel to sin.

Y Basá hizo lo malo a los ojos del Señor, y siguió el mal ejemplo de Jeroboán, y con sus pecados hizo pecar a Israel.
