1 A nd Isaac called Jacob, and blessed him, and charged him, and said unto him, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan.

Entonces Isaac llamó a Jacob, y lo bendijo. Además, le ordenó: «No tomes como mujer a ninguna cananea.

2 A rise, go to Paddan-aram, to the house of Bethuel thy mother's father. And take thee a wife from thence of the daughters of Laban thy mother's brother.

Levántate y vete a Padán Aram, a casa de Betuel, tu abuelo materno, y toma allí por mujer a una de las hijas de Labán, el hermano de tu madre.

3 A nd God Almighty bless thee, and make thee fruitful, and multiply thee, that thou mayest be a company of peoples.

¡Que el Dios omnipotente te bendiga y haga que te reproduzcas y te multipliques, hasta que seas un gran conjunto de pueblos!

4 A nd give thee the blessing of Abraham, to thee, and to thy seed with thee. That thou mayest inherit the land of thy sojournings, which God gave unto Abraham.

¡Que Dios te dé la bendición de Abrahán, a ti y a tu descendencia, para que heredes la tierra donde ahora vives, y que él le dio a Abrahán!»

5 A nd Isaac sent away Jacob. And he went to Paddan-aram unto Laban, son of Bethuel the Syrian, the brother of Rebekah, Jacob's and Esau's mother.

Así despidió Isaac a Jacob, y éste se fue a Padán Aram, donde vivía Labán, que era hijo de Betuel el arameo y hermano de Rebeca, la madre de Jacob y de Esaú.

6 N ow Esau saw that Isaac had blessed Jacob and sent him away to Paddan-aram, to take him a wife from thence. And that as he blessed him he gave him a charge, saying, Thou shalt not take a wife of the daughters of Canaan.

Esaú vio que Isaac había bendecido a Jacob, y que lo había enviado a Padán Aram para tomar de allí una mujer. También vio que, al bendecirlo, le había dado la orden de no tomar por mujer a una cananea,

7 A nd that Jacob obeyed his father and his mother, and was gone to Paddan-aram.

y que Jacob había obedecido a su padre y a su madre, y se había ido a Padán Aram.

8 A nd Esau saw that the daughters of Canaan pleased not Isaac his father.

Esaú vio igualmente que a Isaac, su padre, no le agradaban las cananeas,

9 A nd Esau went unto Ishmael, and took, besides the wives that he had, Mahalath the daughter of Ishmael Abraham's son, the sister of Nebaioth, to be his wife.

así que se fue a ver a Ismael y, además de sus otras mujeres, Esaú tomó allí por mujer a Majalat, que era hermana de Nebayot e hija de Ismael, el hijo de Abrahán. Dios se aparece a Jacob en Betel

10 A nd Jacob went out from Beer-sheba, and went toward Haran.

Jacob salió de Berseba y se fue a Jarán.

11 A nd he lighted upon a certain place, and tarried there all night, because the sun was set. And he took one of the stones of the place, and put it under his head, and lay down in that place to sleep.

Al llegar a cierto lugar, se quedó allí a pasar la noche, porque el sol ya se había puesto. Tomó una de las piedras de aquel lugar y la puso como cabecera, y allí se acostó para dormir.

12 A nd he dreamed. And behold, a ladder set up on the earth, and the top of it reached to heaven. And behold, the angels of God ascending and descending on it.

Entonces tuvo un sueño, en el que veía una escalera apoyada en la tierra, y cuyo extremo tocaba el cielo, y veía que los ángeles de Dios subían y bajaban por ella.

13 A nd, behold, Jehovah stood above it, and said, I am Jehovah, the God of Abraham thy father, and the God of Isaac. The land whereon thou liest, to thee will I give it, and to thy seed.

En lo alto de la escalera, veía al Señor, que le decía: «Yo soy el Señor, el Dios de tu padre Abrahán y el Dios de Isaac. A ti y a tu descendencia les daré la tierra donde ahora estás acostado.

14 A nd thy seed shall be as the dust of the earth, and thou shalt spread abroad to the west, and to the east, and to the north, and to the south. And in thee and in thy seed shall all the families of the earth be blessed.

Tu descendencia será como el polvo de la tierra, y te esparcirás hacia el occidente y el oriente, hacia el norte y el sur. En ti y en tu simiente serán bendecidas todas las familias de la tierra.

15 A nd, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee, whithersoever thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land. For I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of.

Date cuenta de que yo estoy contigo. Yo te protegeré por dondequiera que vayas, y volveré a traerte a esta tierra. No te dejaré ni un momento, hasta que haya hecho lo que te he dicho.»

16 A nd Jacob awaked out of his sleep, and he said, Surely Jehovah is in this place. And I knew it not.

Cuando Jacob despertó de su sueño, dijo: «Realmente el Señor está en este lugar, y yo no lo sabía.»

17 A nd he was afraid, and said, How dreadful is this place! This is none other than the house of God, and this is the gate of heaven.

Sintió miedo, y dijo: «¡Qué terrible es este lugar! ¡No es otra cosa que la casa de Dios y la puerta del cielo!»

18 A nd Jacob rose up early in the morning, and took the stone that he had put under his head, and set it up for a pillar, and poured oil upon the top of it.

Por la mañana Jacob se levantó y tomó la piedra que había puesto de cabecera, la levantó como un pilar, y sobre ella derramó aceite.

19 A nd he called the name of that place Beth-el. But the name of the city was Luz at the first.

A ese lugar le puso por nombre Betel, aunque el primer nombre de esa ciudad era Luz.

20 A nd Jacob vowed a vow, saying, If God will be with me, and will keep me in this way that I go, and will give me bread to eat, and raiment to put on,

Allí Jacob hizo este voto: «Si Dios me acompaña y me protege en este viaje que ahora hago, y me da pan para comer y ropa para vestirme,

21 s o that I come again to my father's house in peace, and Jehovah will be my God,

y me hace volver en paz a la casa de mi padre, entonces el Señor será mi Dios.

22 t hen this stone, which I have set up for a pillar, shall be God's house. And of all that thou shalt give me I will surely give the tenth unto thee.

Esta piedra, que he levantado como pilar, será casa de Dios; y de todo lo que me des, apartaré el diezmo para ti.»
