1 A nd it came to pass after these things, that the butler of the king of Egypt and his baker offended their lord the king of Egypt.

Después de esto sucedió que el copero y el panadero del rey de Egipto delinquieron contra su señor, el rey de Egipto,

2 A nd Pharaoh was wroth against his two officers, against the chief of the butlers, and against the chief of the bakers.

y éste se enojó contra sus dos oficiales, es decir, contra el jefe de los coperos y el jefe de los panaderos,

3 A nd he put them in ward in the house of the captain of the guard, into the prison, the place where Joseph was bound.

y los puso en prisión, en la cárcel donde José estaba preso, es decir, en la casa del capitán de la guardia.

4 A nd the captain of the guard charged Joseph with them, and he ministered unto them: and they continued a season in ward.

El capitán de la guardia puso a José a cargo de ellos, y él les servía, y ellos estuvieron en la prisión muchos días.

5 A nd they dreamed a dream both of them, each man his dream, in one night, each man according to the interpretation of his dream, the butler and the baker of the king of Egypt, who were bound in the prison.

Allí en la prisión, en una misma noche, tanto el copero como el panadero del rey de Egipto tuvieron cada uno un sueño, y cada sueño tenía su propio significado.

6 A nd Joseph came in unto them in the morning, and saw them, and, behold, they were sad.

Cuando José vino a verlos por la mañana, los miró y notó que estaban tristes.

7 A nd he asked Pharaoh's officers that were with him in ward in his master's house, saying, Wherefore look ye so sad to-day?

Entonces les preguntó a esos oficiales del faraón, que estaban presos como él en la casa de su señor: «¿Por qué tienen hoy tan mal semblante?»

8 A nd they said unto him, We have dreamed a dream, and there is none that can interpret it. And Joseph said unto them, Do not interpretations belong to God? tell it me, I pray you.

Ellos le dijeron: «Hemos tenido un sueño, y no hay quien lo interprete.» Y José les dijo: «¿Acaso no corresponde a Dios interpretar los sueños? Cuéntenmelo ahora.»

9 A nd the chief butler told his dream to Joseph, and said to him, In my dream, behold, a vine was before me;

Entonces el jefe de los coperos le contó su sueño a José, y le dijo: «En mi sueño, veía yo una vid delante de mí;

10 a nd in the vine were three branches: and it was as though it budded, and its blossoms shot forth; and the clusters thereof brought forth ripe grapes:

en la vid había tres sarmientos. La vid parecía brotar y arrojar su flor, y las uvas de sus racimos maduraban.

11 a nd Pharaoh's cup was in my hand; and I took the grapes, and pressed them into Pharaoh's cup, and I gave the cup into Pharaoh's hand.

Yo tenía en la mano la copa del faraón, y tomaba las uvas y las exprimía en la copa, y daba al faraón la copa en su mano.»

12 A nd Joseph said unto him, This is the interpretation of it: the three branches are three days;

José le dijo: «Ésta es la interpretación: los tres sarmientos son tres días.

13 w ithin yet three days shall Pharaoh lift up thy head, and restore thee unto thine office: and thou shalt give Pharaoh's cup into his hand, after the former manner when thou wast his butler.

Al cabo de tres días el faraón te levantará la cabeza y te restituirá a tu puesto, y tú le darás la copa al faraón en la mano, como solías hacerlo cuando eras su copero.

14 B ut have me in thy remembrance when it shall be well with thee, and show kindness, I pray thee, unto me, and make mention of me unto Pharaoh, and bring me out of this house:

Así que acuérdate de mí cuando recibas ese beneficio. Yo te ruego que me trates con misericordia. Haz mención de mí ante el faraón, y sácame de esta prisión.

15 f or indeed I was stolen away out of the land of the Hebrews: and here also have I done nothing that they should put me into the dungeon.

Porque a mí me secuestraron de la tierra de los hebreos, y aquí no he hecho nada para que me hayan puesto en la cárcel.»

16 W hen the chief baker saw that the interpretation was good, he said unto Joseph, I also was in my dream, and, behold, three baskets of white bread were on my head:

Al ver el jefe de los panaderos que José había hecho una buena interpretación, le dijo: «También yo soñé que veía tres canastillos blancos sobre mi cabeza.

17 a nd in the uppermost basket there was of all manner of baked food for Pharaoh; and the birds did eat them out of the basket upon my head.

En el canastillo más alto había toda clase de manjares y pasteles para el faraón, y las aves los comían del canastillo que estaba sobre mi cabeza.»

18 A nd Joseph answered and said, This is the interpretation thereof: the three baskets are three days;

José respondió, y dijo: «Ésta es la interpretación: Los tres canastillos son tres días.

19 w ithin yet three days shall Pharaoh lift up thy head from off thee, and shall hang thee on a tree; and the birds shall eat thy flesh from off thee.

Al cabo de tres días el faraón te levantará la cabeza, y hará que te cuelguen en la horca, y las aves te arrancarán la carne para comérsela.»

20 A nd it came to pass the third day, which was Pharaoh's birthday, that he made a feast unto all his servants: and he lifted up the head of the chief butler and the head of the chief baker among his servants.

Al tercer día, que era el día del cumpleaños del faraón, éste ofreció un banquete para todos sus sirvientes; y en medio de sus servidores levantó la cabeza del jefe de los coperos y la cabeza del jefe de los panaderos.

21 A nd he restored the chief butler unto his butlership again; and he gave the cup into Pharaoh's hand:

Al jefe de los coperos lo hizo volver a su puesto, y éste daba al faraón la copa en su mano;

22 b ut he hanged the chief baker: as Joseph had interpreted to them.

pero al jefe de los panaderos lo mandó a la horca, conforme a la interpretación que José les había hecho.

23 Y et did not the chief butler remember Joseph, but forgat him.

Pero el jefe de los coperos, lejos de acordarse de José, se olvidó de él.
