1 W hen Israel was a child, then I loved him, and called my son out of Egypt.

«Yo amé a Israel desde que era un niño. De Egipto llamé a mi hijo.

2 T he more the prophets called them, the more they went from them: they sacrificed unto the Baalim, and burned incense to graven images.

Pero mientras más los llamaba yo, más se alejaban de mí, y ofrecían sacrificios a los baales y quemaban incienso para honrar a los ídolos.

3 Y et I taught Ephraim to walk; I took them on my arms; but they knew not that I healed them.

»Yo tomé en mis brazos a Efraín y le enseñé a caminar, pero él nunca reconoció que era yo quien lo cuidaba.

4 I drew them with cords of a man, with bands of love; and I was to them as they that lift up the yoke on their jaws; and I laid food before them.

Yo los atraje a mí con cuerdas humanas, ¡con cuerdas de amor! Estaban sometidos al yugo de la esclavitud, pero yo les quité ese yugo y les di de comer.

5 T hey shall not return into the land of Egypt; but the Assyrian shall be their king, because they refused to return to me.

»Pero no quisieron volverse a mí. Por eso, no volverán a Egipto, sino que el asirio mismo será su rey.

6 A nd the sword shall fall upon their cities, and shall consume their bars, and devour them, because of their own counsels.

La espada caerá sobre sus ciudades, y acabará con sus aldeas. Acabará con ellas por causa de sus malas intenciones.

7 A nd my people are bent on backsliding from me: though they call them to him that is on high, none at all will exalt him.

Mi pueblo insiste en rebelarse contra mí; me llaman el Dios Altísimo, pero ninguno de ellos me quiere enaltecer.

8 H ow shall I give thee up, Ephraim? how shall I cast thee off, Israel? how shall I make thee as Admah? how shall I set thee as Zeboiim? my heart is turned within me, my compassions are kindled together.

»¿Cómo podría yo abandonarte, Efraín? ¿Podría yo entregarte, Israel? ¿Podría yo hacerte lo mismo que hice con Adma y con Zeboyin? Dentro de mí, el corazón se me estremece, toda mi compasión se inflama.

9 I will not execute the fierceness of mine anger, I will not return to destroy Ephraim: for I am God, and not man; the Holy One in the midst of thee; and I will not come in wrath.

Pero no daré paso al ardor de mi ira, ni volveré a destruir a Efraín. Dentro de esta ciudad estoy yo, el Dios Santo, y no un simple hombre. Así que no entraré en la ciudad.

10 T hey shall walk after Jehovah, who will roar like a lion; for he will roar, and the children shall come trembling from the west.

»Ellos vendrán en pos de mí. Yo, el Señor, rugiré como un león, y mis hijos vendrán temblando desde el occidente.

11 T hey shall come trembling as a bird out of Egypt, and as a dove out of the land of Assyria; and I will make them to dwell in their houses, saith Jehovah.

Saldrán de Egipto temblorosos como aves. Saldrán de Asiria temblorosos como palomas. Yo haré que vuelvan a habitar sus casas. —Palabra del Señor.

12 E phraim compasseth me about with falsehood, and the house of Israel with deceit; but Judah yet ruleth with God, and is faithful with the Holy One.

»Efraín siempre me habla con mentiras, y la casa de Israel siempre me habla con engaños. Judá anda perdido, lejos de mí, su Dios santo y fiel.»
