1 A nd all the congregation of the children of Israel journeyed from the wilderness of Sin, by their journeys, according to the commandment of Jehovah, and encamped in Rephidim: and there was no water for the people to drink.

Conforme al mandamiento del Señor, toda la congregación de los hijos de Israel partió del desierto de Sin en jornadas cortas hasta acampar en Refidín. Pero allí el pueblo no tenía agua para beber,

2 W herefore the people stove with Moses, and said, Give us water that we may drink. And Moses said unto them, Why strive ye with me? Wherefore do ye tempt Jehovah?

así que todo el pueblo discutió con Moisés y le dijo: «Danos agua. Queremos beber.» Moisés les dijo: «¿Por qué se pelean conmigo? ¿Por qué ponen a prueba al Señor?»

3 A nd the people thirsted there for water; and the people murmured against Moses, and said, Wherefore hast thou brought us up out of Egypt, to kill us and our children and our cattle with thirst?

Pero el pueblo tenía sed, y murmuró contra Moisés, y dijo: «¿Para qué nos hiciste salir de Egipto? ¿Para matarnos de sed a nosotros, a nuestros hijos y a nuestros ganados?»

4 A nd Moses cried unto Jehovah, saying, What shall I do unto this people? They are almost ready to stone me.

Entonces Moisés pidió ayuda al Señor y le dijo: «¿Qué voy a hacer con este pueblo? ¡Un poco más, y me matarán a pedradas!»

5 A nd Jehovah said unto Moses, Pass on before the people, and take with thee of the elders of Israel; and they rod, wherewith thou smotest the river, take in thy hand, and go.

Y el Señor le dijo a Moisés: «Adelántate al pueblo. Anda, lleva contigo a algunos de los ancianos de Israel, y llévate también la vara con la que golpeaste el río.

6 B ehold, I will stand before thee there upon the rock in Horeb; and thou shalt smite the rock, and there shall come water out of it, that the people may drink. And Moses did so in the sight of the elders of Israel.

Voy a esperarte en Horeb, junto a la roca que está allí, y tú golpearás la roca, y de ella brotará agua, que el pueblo podrá beber.» Y Moisés lo hizo así, en presencia de los ancianos de Israel,

7 A nd he called the name of the place Massah, and Meribah, because of the striving of the children of Israel, and because they tempted Jehovah, saying, Is Jehovah among us, or not?

y a ese lugar lo llamó Masah, porque los hijos de Israel pusieron a prueba al Señor, y también Meriba, por la discusión que tuvo con ellos, pues dijeron: «¿Está el Señor entre nosotros, o no está?» La guerra con Amalec

8 T hen came Amalek, and fought with Israel in Rephidim.

Amalec vino a Refidín y peleó contra Israel.

9 A nd Moses said unto Joshua, Choose us out men, and go out, fight with Amalek: to-morrow I will stand on the top of the hill with the rod of God in my hand.

Entonces Moisés le dijo a Josué: «Escoge nuestros mejores hombres, y sal a pelear contra Amalec. Mañana yo estaré sobre la cumbre del cerro, con la vara de Dios en mi mano.»

10 S o Joshua did as Moses had said to him, and fought with Amalek: and Moses, Aaron, and Hur went up to the top of the hill.

Josué hizo lo que Moisés le dijo, y combatió contra Amalec, y Moisés, Aarón y Jur subieron a la cumbre del cerro.

11 A nd it came to pass, when Moses held up his hand, that Israel prevailed; and when he let down his hand, Amalek prevailed.

Mientras Moisés mantenía la mano en alto, los israelitas vencían; pero cuando bajaba la mano, vencía Amalec.

12 B ut Moses' hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him, and he sat thereon; and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands, the one on the one side, and the other on the other side; And his hands were steady until the going down of the sun.

Pero a Moisés se le cansaban las manos, así que tomaron una piedra y se la pusieron debajo, para que pudiera sentarse, mientras que Aarón y Jur le sostenían las manos, el uno del lado izquierdo y el otro del lado derecho. Así pudo mantener firmes las manos, hasta que se puso el sol,

13 A nd Joshua discomfited Amalek and his people with the edge of the sword.

y Josué derrotó a Amalec y a su pueblo a filo de espada.

14 A nd Jehovah said unto Moses, Write this for a memorial in a book, and rehearse it in the ears of Joshua: that I will utterly blot out the remembrance of Amalek from under heaven.

El Señor le dijo a Moisés: «Escribe esto en un libro, para que se recuerde, y dile a Josué que yo borraré por completo la memoria de Amalec.»

15 A nd Moses built an altar, and called the name of it Jehovah-nissi;

Luego Moisés levantó un altar y le puso por nombre Adonay Nisi,

16 A nd he said, Jehovah hath sworn: Jehovah will have war with Amalek from generation to generation.

porque dijo: «La mano de Amalec se levantó contra el trono del Señor. Por eso el Señor estará en guerra contra Amalec de generación en generación.»
