1 N ow the Philistines fought against Israel: and the men of Israel fled from before the Philistines, and fell down slain in mount Gilboa.

Los filisteos pelearon contra los israelitas y los pusieron en fuga, y muchos israelitas murieron en el monte de Gilboa.

2 A nd the Philistines followed hard after Saul and after his sons; and the Philistines slew Jonathan, and Abinadab, and Malchi-shua, the sons of Saul.

Los filisteos persiguieron a Saúl y a sus hijos, y de ellos mataron a Jonatán, Abinadab y Malquisúa.

3 A nd the battle went sore against Saul, and the archers overtook him; and he was distressed by reason of the archers.

Al arreciar la batalla contra Saúl, los flecheros lo alcanzaron y lo hirieron.

4 T hen said Saul unto his armor-bearer, Draw thy sword, and thrust me through therewith, lest these uncircumcised come and abuse me. But his armor-bearer would not; for he was sore afraid. Therefore Saul took his sword, and fell upon it.

Saúl dijo entonces a su escudero: «Saca tu espada y clávamela, no sea que estos incircuncisos vengan y se burlen de mí.» Pero su escudero no quiso hacerlo, porque tenía mucho miedo. Entonces Saúl sacó su propia espada, y se arrojó sobre ella.

5 A nd when his armor-bearer saw that Saul was dead, he likewise fell upon his sword, and died.

Cuando su escudero vio muerto a Saúl, también él se arrojó sobre su espada y se mató.

6 S o Saul died, and his three sons; and all his house died together.

Así murieron Saúl y sus tres hijos, y con él murió toda su familia.

7 A nd when all the men of Israel that were in the valley saw that they fled, and that Saul and his sons were dead, they forsook their cities, and fled; and the Philistines came and dwelt in them.

Cuando todos los israelitas que habitaban en el valle vieron que el ejército huía, y que Saúl y sus hijos habían muertos, abandonaron sus ciudades y huyeron, y los filisteos llegaron y las ocuparon.

8 A nd it came to pass on the morrow, when the Philistines came to strip the slain, that they found Saul and his sons fallen in mount Gilboa.

Y al día siguiente, cuando los filisteos llegaron para despojar a los muertos, hallaron a Saúl y a sus hijos tendidos en el monte de Gilboa.

9 A nd they stripped him, and took his head, and his armor, and sent into the land of the Philistines round about, to carry the tidings unto their idols, and to the people.

Entonces lo despojaron, le quitaron la cabeza y sus armas, y enviaron mensajeros por toda la tierra de los filisteos para dar la noticia a sus ídolos y al pueblo.

10 A nd they put his armor in the house of their gods, and fastened his head in the house of Dagon.

Pusieron las armas de Saúl en el templo de sus dioses, y su cabeza la colgaron en el templo de Dagón.

11 A nd when all Jabesh-gilead heard all that the Philistines had done to Saul,

Y cuando todos los de Jabés de Galaad supieron lo que los filisteos habían hecho con Saúl,

12 a ll the valiant men arose, and took away the body of Saul, and the bodies of his sons, and brought them to Jabesh, and buried their bones under the oak in Jabesh, and fasted seven days.

todos los más aguerridos fueron a recoger los cuerpos de Saúl y de sus hijos, y los llevaron a Jabés, y allí en Jabés enterraron sus huesos debajo de una encina, y ayunaron siete días.

13 S o Saul died for his trespass which he committed against Jehovah, because of the word of Jehovah, which he kept not; and also for that he asked counsel of one that had a familiar spirit, to inquire thereby,

Así fue como Saúl murió por haberse rebelado y por pecar contra el Señor y contra su palabra, la cual no obedeció, pues prefirió consultar a una adivina

14 a nd inquired not of Jehovah: therefore he slew him, and turned the kingdom unto David the son of Jesse.

en vez de consultarlo a él. Por eso el Señor le quitó la vida y entregó el reino a David hijo de Yesé.
