1 P ut them in mind to be in subjection to rulers, to authorities, to be obedient, to be ready unto every good work,

Recuérdales que se sujeten a los gobernantes y a las autoridades; que obedezcan y que estén dispuestos a toda buena obra.

2 t o speak evil of no man, not to be contentious, to be gentle, showing all meekness toward all men.

Que no difamen a nadie ni sean pendencieros, sino amables; que muestren toda mansedumbre para con todos los hombres.

3 F or we also once were foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, hating one another.

Porque en otro tiempo nosotros también éramos insensatos, rebeldes, extraviados, esclavos de los malos deseos y de diversos deleites; vivíamos en malicia y envidia, nos aborrecían y nos aborrecíamos unos a otros.

4 B ut when the kindness of God our Saviour, and his love toward man, appeared,

Pero cuando se manifestó la bondad de Dios, nuestro Salvador, y su amor para con los hombres,

5 n ot by works done in righteousness, which we did ourselves, but according to his mercy he saved us, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit,

nos salvó, y no por obras de justicia que nosotros hubiéramos hecho, sino por su misericordia, por el lavamiento de la regeneración y por la renovación en el Espíritu Santo,

6 w hich he poured out upon us richly, through Jesus Christ our Saviour;

el cual derramó en nosotros abundantemente por Jesucristo, nuestro Salvador,

7 t hat, being justified by his grace, we might be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

para que al ser justificados por su gracia viniéramos a ser herederos conforme a la esperanza de la vida eterna.

8 F aithful is the saying, and concerning these things I desire that thou affirm confidently, to the end that they who have believed God may be careful to maintain good works. These things are good and profitable unto men:

Ésta es palabra fiel, y en esto quiero que insistas con firmeza, para que los que creen en Dios procuren ocuparse en las buenas obras. Estas cosas son buenas y útiles a los hombres.

9 b ut shun foolish questionings, and genealogies, and strifes, and fightings about law; for they are unprofitable and vain.

Pero evita las cuestiones necias, las genealogías, las contenciones y las discusiones acerca de la ley, porque son vanas y no son de provecho.

10 A factious man after a first and second admonition refuse;

Al que cause divisiones, deséchalo después de una y otra amonestación,

11 k nowing that such a one is perverted, and sinneth, being self-condemned.

pues sabrás que tal persona se ha pervertido, y peca y su propio juicio lo condena. Instrucciones personales

12 W hen I shall send Artemas unto thee, or Tychicus, give diligence to come unto me to Nicopolis: for there I have determined to winter.

Cuando te envíe a Artemas o a Tíquico, apresúrate a reunirte conmigo en Nicópolis, porque he decidido pasar allí el invierno.

13 S et forward Zenas the lawyer and Apollos on their journey diligently, that nothing be wanting unto them.

Apresúrate también a poner en camino a Zenas, el intérprete de la ley, y a Apolos, y ayúdalos para que nada les falte.

14 A nd let our people also learn to maintain good works for necessary uses, that they be not unfruitful.

Y que aprendan también los nuestros a ocuparse en las buenas obras para los casos de necesidad, para que no se queden sin dar fruto. Salutaciones y bendición final

15 A ll that are with me salute thee. Salute them that love us in faith. Grace be with you all.

Todos los que están conmigo te saludan. Saluda a los que nos aman en la fe. Que la gracia sea con todos ustedes. Amén.
